the ascot is definitely extinct and will probably never become popular again. But for me as and ascot lover, that is a good thing. I got one off ebay for 5$ and wore it to prom and among all my friends I got the most compliments. just because it is out of fashion doesn't mean you can pull it off. It is a perfect neckwear to stand out among people with regular ties

I see them mostly worn in wedding parties in the UK. I had to wear one at my brother's wedding when I was best man. I see them more amongst artistic and celebrity types over in the UK and once a guy was wearing one at an event, but I don't think I ever seen them in the US and I been here for nearly 20 years.

I have worn and continue to wear ascots. It adds that touch of 'Sprezzaturra' to any suit/outfit. I generally wear ties when I don't want to wear an ascot. Ties and ascots are the hallmark of a well dressed gentleman. I have bespoke suits, all of them have suspender buttons and I wear suspenders. The trousers sit better, are more comfortable over a long period. By the way, the akubra fits you right but Akubra also make fedoras, excellent for that finishing touch to an outfit. The Akubra is very sturdy, keeps the sun off your face ( lessening the effects of the sun on your skin thereby slowing the ageing process. And as for the drivers, I keep a set in my car and wear them when I drive, change into them when I fly. The are very comfortable on the feet. And I have 200 pairs of shoes!
@richardplotzker65915 жыл бұрын
I assume the suspenders and black oxfords return for those black tie charitable events. And a kippa at a Bar Mitzvah, either suede or satin in the specified color provided by the family. Sometimes accessories are mandated. I usually wear my own kippah, crocheted with a design, even when the Bar Mitzvah family provides them.

I wore Ascots quite a bit after having skin surgery on my neck. Looked stylish and at the same time protected the fresh scars against abrasion. Similarly, started wearing hats when I had surgery on the top of my head and needed to protect it against sunlight, dirt etc. If I have more opportunities to go out again, I'll probably wear them again.

I do wear often in the winter a bandana around my neck tucked into my shirt; it keeps my neck warm like a scarf. It works very well to cover the open neck space.
@odinlindeberg46245 жыл бұрын
I simply wrap a long wool scarf around my neck instead. I put the center to my throat, pull each end around my neck and tuck them under my lapel, making my neck look rather stocky to fit with my big wool coat and protecting it from the cold.

It's nice to know that men still love wearing suits and not just because they have to. Ascots are really elegant, sadly not many men like them. I believe the golden age of clothing was the 19th century, at least for men, so the ascot is something that looks great even now

Hey Antonio, I like the Akubra, but I'm not sure it's perfect for your face shape. A crown that high is incredibly difficult to pull off with a flat brim. I suggest a shorter crown or a western upturn like a stockman or teardrop. The bash is nice, but the height stretches your face. You'd also look quite good in a flat crown like Akubra's Plainsman or Squatter. If you want to wear that Akubra, let it sit at a slight angle, as it will "break away" allowing your face to be framed rather than stretched. Love your videos. They've been a huge help to me as I have begun moving in more business class circles.

Try buying old stock hats like the classic fedora hat or maybe maybe a heaver fedora trench coat hat so you can wear something like that when it’s raining or maybe buy a summer hat made out of straw or like material. Something I leaned is you shouldn’t wear wider brim hats with a suit maybe a short sleeve dress shirt with jeans, short dress paints, or maybe dockers. Smaller brim hats go with more dress ware and events. So give it a try and see how you like it.

Like you, Antonio I have a big emphasis on function and simplicity in my wardrobe. While I can certainly appreciate boutonnieres/neckties and do occasionally wear them, they definitely are on the back burner for me due to a lack of function and the potential of over-complicating an outfit. The one item I wear a lot on your list and that I'm surprised you aren't a big fan of is suspenders, In particular button braces. I wear these all the time with dress pants and think they are the perfect combination of function and understated style. If you wear a jacket/sportcoat a lot like I know you do, they are barely ever seen; only really when you sit down with the jacket unbuttoned. Braces have many advantages over belts; They keep your pants at the optimal rise throughout the day where it's most comfortable. They don't pinch your midsection (especially when you sit down). They make you look taller visually by elongating your figure and don't visually cut your silhouette in half like a belt would (especially with a suit). This is particularly useful if you're of a shorter/average height like I am. They press close against your body making your dress shirt look more fitted and elegant (especially on the back). I also believe that the light pressure they put upon your shoulders helps you maintain an upright and ideal posture throughout the day. I like to wear them on the inside of my pants with no belt-loops as I think this offers the cleanest lines and like with any accessory I try to match it to the rest of my outfit i.e have the button tab leather match my shoes, have the elastic strap go with my fabrics and match the metal hardware to my watch or cufflinks etc. imgur.com/a/NzvX32k While I think Brock would benefit from slightly slimmer braces to match his lean figure and a higher rise of pants, I think this is a really good example of how to do suspenders well and showcases the benefits of them. Thanks for the video and I hope you'll consider trying them out again! -max

I love a good Fedora, but really don't find much occasion to wear one. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area where wide brim hats are still worn often. And when it's hot and sunny outside a hat that keeps the Sun and heat off of the back of your neck is extremely valuable.
@VintageBlacklist5 жыл бұрын
Hats are hard.. flat cap or fedora have been my go to, but they are still difficult to pair with. Petite coats complement both but when indoors and the coat comes off, I've found it useful to follow military tradition and not wear a cover in doors. A fedora with a suit can be done, but I feel like you're following Sinatra at that point, and that's taking it to the next level of class.
@johnbartel52295 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio, I'm a "hat guy" and have been for a long time (years). I wear the fedora, straw in summer and fur (rabbit and beaver) in fall and winter, and you need to try many different hats that fit your face as well as outfit. I wear suits so the more formal hat works for me. The hat is a very personal piece of clothing and incorporating it takes some getting used to as you will probably be the only guy wearing one. I taught myself to like it and now it is just part of me, my style and personality. Hve fun with your journey to find the right style of hat for yourself as you join those of us who adhere to the more classic style of dressing. I enjoy your videos, best of luck to you. John, Sacramento, CA.

Akubras look good with either jeans or khakis and chukka or hiker boots; and a polo or collared shirt. Summer when jts hot; and winter to keep the snow off ... Use scotchgard on it to protect it, it won't stain.
@BobTheHatKing6 жыл бұрын
Antonio, I own over 125 hats of all sorts and I can tell you that Akubra looks amazing on you sends a very bold statement, especially with a sports jacket/suit of that color you're wearing in the video, or with a dark/navy blue one. however, it isn't really a summer hat to me; for summer maybe a Panama or other straw hat would be better
@rcsirish486 жыл бұрын
Agree with most items. I like ties and wear them as much as I can. They add to your look and with a suit or sportcoat give a leg up on all the guys not wearing them. I also am wearing hats. Straw for summer and flat caps, medium brim felt and beanies for winter. the first two when it fits my outfits and the latter when it darn cold/windy!

1. The Australian drovers hat looks great. Not maybe for your videos, but for getting out and about. 2. If I'm going to wear a jacket, I'm going to wear a tie. (Family swear I was born wearing a shirt and tie.) 3. I like black shoes and I wear them. Almost all the time. I also have oxblood and brown and I like them. 4. Cravat. I've had a few and have enjoyed wearing them. There are a few thoughts; I realize my style is a bit different from yours, but the world is big enough for both of us.

I agree with all points, I own all the items listed, some of the items I paid a lot of money for, like a tailored suit and dress shoes, just never wear them. Despite my profile pic, I hardly ever wear suits too, 99% of the time, I wear Jeans, Brown Casual brogue Shoes/Boots, Shirt (Without a tie) and a Blazer/Sports jacket. I believe it looks just as smart without feeling stuffy or over dressed. I have a silk Ascot, that I wore once at the Royal Ascot Racecourse, along with a Top Hat, It wasn't so bad or embarrassing as I thought as everyone else were dressed the same. The closest thing I have ever wore as an Ascot as a choice was a wool scarf fashioned in a similar way as Daniel Craig in Skyfall during the winter. As for Hats, I have quite the collection including the before mentioned Top Hat, Bowler, Dear Stalker, Indiana Jones style Fedora, but I only wear 2 types if at all. A Wool Beanie and a Lock & Co Tweed Flat Cap that I inherited from my Grandfather.
@05Rudey3 жыл бұрын
I'd never wear a Ascot or Cravat. But a small wool scarf that I have cut down to a smaller size and tucked under a Shirt or Henley during the winter done in a style of a Cravat like Daniel Craig in Skyfall is something I have worn about 3 times.

Braces are a must-have for me as I'm a little light in the hip department (or if I lose a few pounds, my trousers fall down). Though I love to wear hats (winter: fedora, bowler, homburg; summer: Panama, boater), I live in the same state as you do, so I tend to get a few odd looks when I do. However, the best looks happen when I put on the kilt! No matter, I wear what I like and it works for me.

I still wear the classic 1950 era beaver fedora... I love it very much. I think that a fedora is a timeless classic! I also went away with neckties a decade ago for safety reasons (my ties getting caught in rollers of a printer or in a laminating machine because I work in an office setting), but I felt naked around my neck, so I wear bow ties now. I don't wear suits as much as I did back in the 1980s, but I wear my suit about 10% of the time in a year because of a lot of formal functions I attend.

When I lost weight (from 90 to 80, doesn't sound much, but the visual difference is huge), some of my favorite paints waists became too big for me, and the belts became too long. I don't wanted to made them fit again, so I decided to introduce suspenders. I bought a nice pair of navy, clipped ones, I used them for a while, then I upgraded to button-in ones. I actually replaced the clips with mustaches, and I also sewn the buttons up, one pair of a day. They are awesome. You don't have problems with your belt length, your pants still fit nice, even if their waist is too big. And they are ok with metal detectors. I have very long pair of trousers, I don't hem anymore, I just wear them with suspenders (the pants are higher than with a belt). Your pants are always up, unlike belts. Hidden bonus, they force me to walk with straight back, this improves my pose a lot. I wanted to introduce west, this worked very well also. They are very good if you need an other layer, and they look great and unique. The other thing, well suede shoes. They look so good, but they so delicate. I will give them also a try in the future.

Suspenders>Belt with a suit. It keeps the lines clean, while the belt breaks up the image. Also, it keeps the waist free, providing better movement. If you have a 3-piece suit, it isn't seen. Ascots are better on older men (50+, depending) because the open neck looks gross as men age.

dude, I've been watching your videos for a long time now and I just want to say that you're awesome! I'm from a great country in the Middle East and it's usually very hot here but still I prefer dressing like a proper gentleman and your videos really help me understand the Codes keep e m coming! PS the hat is a little too big (;

@RealMenRealStyle Antonio, I highly recommend a fedora as a good everyday hat. My first quality hat was an Akubra, as well, and I got it from the David Morgan shop (yes, the man who made the whips for the Indiana Jones movies) up in Bothell, Washington. It was a brown Adventurer, similar to the Herbert Johnson fedoras from the Indy movies. After years of trying on other hats and collecting other hats, I have come to the conclusion that a hat with a non-tapered crown and a medium brim width can make a man look taller and slimmer. And we all know ALT: Always Look Taller. There's a fellow in Sweden who makes hats in the 1930's style, which I believe can still be pulled off today. His website is currently down, so he has a page set up on Etsy. The shop name is Hufvud. Good luck!!

Spencer Townsend, I bought the black Adventurer, so as to avoid being called Dr. Jones. I wore it with a black Carhart coat, and I was told I looked like the bad guy from the first movie! Anyway, that was the only time anyone said anything negative about it! The Adventurer is a great hat. I think David Morgan has outstanding service too.

I think this video is good just to show how one's style evolves over time. Personally I just pick an item, research the hell out of it, try a bunch of different brands, and decide if it works for me. High quality, over-the-calf dress socks are my current project. After that, I'll improve my shoes (I'll be able to buy the proper fit once I get the socks nailed down) and pants that are hemmed properly since I won't have to worry about exposed ankles. But it takes time to try different brands/items and break them in, like you did with bracelets.

bro the very first thing you should do to improve your style is get decent shoes. I recommend allen edmonds factory seconds. good shoes make any outfit look better. shitty shoes make any outfit look like shit. socks are hardly noticeable but important if you want to be put together.

I'm thinking of pulling off ascots or dress hats. I love the hat, however maybe a wider head size and shorter top part? It depends on how you like to wear hats. Some people like hats just the top of their head not to mess with their hair, and some people prefer a size bigger covering their forehead just depends up to you :D

Would like to see more videos on how to wear sports jackets with jeans and what you'd pair them with.

I agree with you on the point of dress sneakers. I want to add my own: jeans. I'd really like to wear them, but I'm not able. When I wear them... I just don't feel right. That's a shame but man, it's hard for me. Nice video, very interesting and particular :)

That hat looks great but I think if it was a bit smaller it would be perfect. I don't have that much knowledge about hat but just my own opinion 😜

Awesome video, Antonio! I would love to see you try to work a Panama hat into one of your videos.

The Australian hat is for the outback, not for city. I have four hats; two are for winter and the other two are for late Fall or Spring. The winter hats are: one is a Trilby (for the city) and the other is a Stockton (for the countryside). Both are felt wool. The other hats are for colder and wetter weather; a Panniza (rabbit), and this is mostly for the city and in wet weather. The other one is a Stetson Fedora, for wet weather and travel. Your look would be a Trilby or a low-kiosk Fedora.

I’m looking forward to when you start giving advice about men’s glasses. I would also love advice on men’s hats. And I think the hat looked great on you.

I love the ascot I wore one last week to a party they loved it. It's not for everybody it has to suit your style.

You should do a video on hats! For every day, different weather or seasons!

Cheesecutter hats. They're very distinctive, but make me look like i'm a million years old! I find that the Paperboy hat has a much better vibe. Yeah, they're a bit "Peaky Blinders", but unusual and still cool.
