Wow, first time ever learning how to tie a tie knot. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Whenever it came time to wear a suit I always dreaded the tie part because I never knew how to do it. I just never took the time to actually learn. Just tried the Oriental knot and I had it done in seconds. I'm so proud of myself, lol. Thanks, Sven for making more of a man out of me, lol. The fear of tying ties is now finally gone thanks to you.

I was in highschool and my step father got his dress shirts shipped to the house from custom shirt shop. 1983 circa. In the box was a pamfelt on how to tie a tie. I used that guide & taught myself to tie a tie. 1992 cicra I was working as a Regional Manager for a Men's Suit & sport's wear store. And during Corp visit if the tie was not perfect, we would get trashed. So I learned the importance of a good knot. After the crash of many retailers in late 1990's , I found a new career & a suit was my uniform for many years. I have always taken pride in my tie & ties. Enjoy your videos.

I agree strongly Raphael, the dimple is an excellent touch of nonchalant elegance. In my opinion, there is nothing more stylish than a quality tie, tied tightly with a dimple. There is nothing more boring than a cheap tie, tied loosely with no dimple, creating that goofy box-like shape.

I'm not very fond of asymmetrical tie knots (I usually go for a half-Windsor), but indeed the Oriental knot is ideal for thick ties. It is also useful when you have a short tie - it lets you spare some centimeters/inches.

Just tried out the oriental for the first time and it gave me the best dimple I ever had. Definetly wearing it again. The half-Windsor isn't for me honestly. Maybe it could work with a narrower tie but I have yet to try that.

Wonderful video, helped my son who I have been trying to advise about ties. I am quite stuck in my ways. With almost exclusively a full Windsor knot with a full spread collar. It helped me explain that something narrower would be more suitable for his build and face shape. Thank you and stay safe.

I'm the same, my father taught me the Full Windsor when I was quite young (even as a child I wore a suit to church) and I've done ever since, paired with a Spread Collar. Now it's time for me to learn a narrower style.

Doubled Windsor for standard appearances (which in my case means everytime I leave my house) and for special occations I'm using the merowingian knot. Which is the most complex knot I've ever learned (even harder than the asymmetrical Ypsilon) but it looks awesome fits on ever collumn you just need a pretty long medium or thin tie. At job interviews or meetings with high grade b2b costumers it was always worth a positive comment - I love it

In my opinion these knots (merowingian, eldritch, etc) are more like gaudy, party tricks to be used on the rarest of playful or creative occasions so as to avoid looking childish and unsophisticated but definitely a neat knot as far as knots go.

I've been using a tie since I was old enough to walk and I always tied a four-in-hand but I guess have been doing it the mirrored way since I start off with the thick end on my right. I just assumed everyone did it that way until now. I am happy to start using the other two knots now in my everyday to better fit my collars. Up to now the only other knot I use was the windsor knot for more formal occasions but that is my least favorite as the general, (non stylish) public seems to use it all the time. So it was finally the time for me to "get learned".

The Kent knot, or as you say oriental knot, can be done front side not seem side. Simply twist the big blade of the tie upside down half way down then go underneath the small blade and across then put the tie through the loop. There you have it, front side Kent Knot.

Also anywhere where I see suits they never fit right.. they're either too tight with a lot of creases especially around the chest area or they're too loose and lumpy. I don't mean that the suits here that way I mean other places are like that.. I don't understand it because even the most famous people don't where suits that generally fit. Most are too tight lol
