Genuine Sony MDR-7506 headphones unboxing

I have a pair of the counterfeit ones. However, they do have the neodymium magnetic drivers and sound quite good. There are so many fake MDR-7506s on the market that it's difficult to keep track of all of them. Some are counterfeit using Sony genuine parts and others are outright fakes using cheaper parts. As such, it's safer to purchase from a genuine Sony authorized dealer, even if you have to pay a bit more.

I just bought these headphones at a store in NY, the box seems original and so are the headphones with the exception of a translucent tape on the cable plastic bag (instead of yellow) and I think they messed a bit with one Professional sticker which is not very straight, made me wonder why..

Hmm, actually on head-fi people say that V600 is much worse than V6. To avoid confusion - MDR-7506 was released as an upgrade of V6, but people still wanted V6, so Sony started to produce V6 again. But V600 is a completely different model, nothing to do with V6 (or their new incarnation MDR-7506). So the people on head-fi say.

I just received mine today and everything seems to be exactly the same. The only difference is that my cable did not come double bagged and it did not have a yellow tape. But they sound great so I'm guessing they are genuine.

Got mine from an European music store for about 150 (they're pricier in here). The cable is not double-packed and is sealed with clear tape, the warranty is handled by the store, so no warranty card included, and there is EU electronics disposal guide included. Otherwise everything looks exactly the same and they sound as they should.

I got the same on amazon! Single bag and no card... Also, they sent me the wrong pouch! I got a black nylon fabric pouch... Are you sure ours are legit? The cans look great, but so do the fake ones... I wrote to Sony and am waiting for a reply...

@@eccerodrigo Yeah, the EU/export models have slightly different packaging, written in multiple languages. The newer models have the black fabric pouch and it doesn't have the warranty card nor the service manual on the paperback. It's absolutely genuine.

Just got mine today. Everything Is identical to yours except that the "U" in the Barcode sticker seems compressed horizontally and also the cord is not double wrapped with the yellow tag like yours...

Thanks, I will do so in the fall. The price on Amazon is $35 cheaper and comes directly from Amazon, would it still be good to buy from them? I'd like to try some of the entry level Sony cans, but it's hard to justify anything too expensive when I already have the LCD-2s.

Just one question: on the plastic box is the golden square perfectly aligned with the black rectangle of "Professional"? I bought my pair on Amazon,no yellow tape but just seen this strange thing

Antonio Scarvaglieri Actually, that is a side effect of the printing process. The plastic should be printed directly on it, and not a sticker. Because of that, the box is ran through a printer twice, once for gold, once for black. This can cause slight misalignments and totally normal to the process. If the stuff is printed on stickers, it is probably fake.

I just bought one & received it & everything looks fine except that they had bumps on one of the insides of the headband & it also didn't have the yellow stickers(u already addressed this :) & I bought mine from Jr.com

Take out the earpads in the interior should be grey, not black. + the phone? should have a bullet form and not flat + the carry bag should say Sony in white.

I just received one pair from B&H. Other than the coiled cord wrapped by one piece of plastic bag only with regular transparent tape, and also on the box below the large barcode sticker another small one showing "NEW MATERIAL ONLY" then listing the reg numbers of earpad and headband written in French and English, everything else matches with yours. Sound quality is OK.

Hi hifiguy, i'm just wondering what is the main difference with these "monitor" headphones versus normal/consumer headphones? Like the Sony XB series. Are these suitable for listening to music? Better than the XBs for example? Thanks.

I just got a set of these shipped and sold by Amazon for around $75, mine have some minor bumps on the inside of the headband on the right side and the cord wasn't double bagged and had clear tape instead. Other than that, mine seem to be exact to everything else with the set in the video and sound great, should I be concerned that mine are fake? Thanks in advance for answers.

If only they shipped these to Europe.. I can't find them for sale anywhere in Europe. The only ones I can find are those fake ones on Ebay.. another reason why so many people tend to buy those. MDR V6 has a Samarium Cobalt magnet which sounds different as it ages, the MDR 7506 made in Japan had this same magnet but later versions that are made in Thailand has a Neodymium magnet which stays true as it ages. You should compare these models both made in Thailand as they have different magnets and the Neodymium magnet is far superior to the Samarium Cobalt magnet.

By the way, since 2017 Sony had replaced the previous leatherette carrying bag of MDR-7506 with a new one with the *SONY* logo embossed into it. While the MDR-V6 was unfortunately discontinued since 2020... 😢
