Thanks for the helpful video. There's another one on KZbin which implies that you don't have to remove the toilet, but you absolutely do. I've just put this kit into a Bailey motorhome and I would describe it as a moderate to advanced DIY job. The instructions are just about OK but could be clearer in a couple of places, not least the electrical connections to the new control panel circuit board, which compared to the old one is upside down and the other way around. I could just make out from your video which connectors went where, and everything is working fine, so once again thanks. My advice is read the instructions twice, then watch this video, then read the instructions again, and if you have any doubts about whether you can get this job done, get it installed by a pro. The upside of that is that your warranty is preserved, the downside is probably at least £150 labour charge and that's a lot of toilet fluid. I'm happy I've done this from an environmental and convenience point of view but it's not an open and shut case.

Hello Mike, Well done for fitting the kit. Yes I agree it’s fiddly and time consuming but an achievement and well worth it in my opinion. The instructions recommend to get it installed by an official dealer or service centre (mainly to cover themselves) but I think a competent person can undertake this installation. I also agree the electrical connection to the control panel could have been clearer on the instructions. Personally I like a challenge and even fitted one for a friend. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Rob

Excellent advice, thank you. Have to agree with Michelle that it should be an integrated part of the system. Thetford miss a trick of selling filters annually really which is surprising!
@robswiseways56973 жыл бұрын
Agree it shouldn’t be an option, it should be standard during manufacture. Maybe one day Thetford will include it as standard or, as they replace current models. Who knows? Thetford say change the filter after four weeks of continuous use. Of course that depends on how often you spend touring. I’ve left mine for longer than that. Can be expensive changing the filter to often. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best Rob

Thanks for your effort Rob! I almost retrofitted the SOG set because I didn't know this original retrofit solution. SOG costs the same, but has no extended level indicator and an ugly outflow to the outside.
@robswiseways56974 жыл бұрын
I've just watched the SOG video and it's not as neat as the genuine vetilator kit. The only thing visible with the genuine kit is the illuminated button on the control panel. There are no pipes in the way when pulling out the cassette and you don't have to drill a hole in the door. I didn't mention in my video the red 'full' LED flashes when the cassette is taken out of the compartment which is a warning not to use the toilet. Thank for watching. Cheers. Rob

Can I ask you one last question please, what stops the motor running, is they senor to stop and run the motor.. these are questions asked on the net
@robswiseways5697 Жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, The control panel times the toilet fan to run for five minutes. You can manually stop it by pressing the button on the panel, we always do this. You can start the fan running again by pressing the button and the five minute timer starts again too. Hope this helps and thank you for your comment. Cheers, Rob 👍

Hi Rob, I’ve just completed installation in my Swift which had the basic electric flush and red full light. However I think the fan kit I was supplied is incorrect. The flush and fan features work as expected, but the indicator lights do not. The red flashing cassette missing function operates all the time, with the cassette fitted or not. And there are no level indicator lights working. I think I have been supplied a single level reed switch rather than a multi. Looking at your video it looks like there are 2 physical reed switches on your circuit board. I know the float functions are OK as I reinstalled the original kit and it works As normal. I do have less wires to the reed switch than you. I only have 4. I’ll let you know how I get on when I can speak to the supplier. Any thoughts.? Cheers from John.
@robswiseways5697 Жыл бұрын
Hi John, I have just checked my reed switch and I also have four wires. The other two wires from the control panel will be the pump. It does sound like you may have the wrong reed switch. It would be interesting to know what the outcome is. Hope all goes well and it gets sorted. Cheers, Rob

Thanks for that Rob, it’s much appreciated. It was Leisure Shop Direct that I made the order with. Their asking me to pay another £9.99 to post the reed switch back to them…. Hi again Rob, so I had a really disappointing experience with Leisure Direct. No telephone contact, all done by email. They didn’t or wouldn’t believe me it was the wrong switch. Would only get involved if I removed and returned the whole kit at my expense, which of course I didn’t want to do. During the email exchanges I rang the contact number for Thetford that’s within the toilet manual. Spoke to the wonderful Kay who confirmed it was the wrong switch sent me a claim form and will send me the correct switch free of charge. In anticipation I wasn’t going to get any joy with Leisure Direct I ordered another switch from Caratec (I’m not very patient) it arrived today, it’s fitted and all working perfectly. Cost another £30 though…….and I will have a spare when Kay’s replacement arrives. I didn’t use the exit vent supplied in the kit, as I would have drilled through a support beam in the floor if I used an 80mm cutter. Found that by using a stud finder. I used some 36mm solvent weld waste pipe and made sure it was accurately aligned with the fan. Haven’t used it in anger yet, but I can feel the air current no problem. Thanks again for confirming your wiring set up. If your ever up in Northumberland give me a shout and we can share sherbet or two. All the best - John.
@robswiseways5697 Жыл бұрын
Good to know you got there in the end John, but no thanks to Leisure Direct. Great to hear Thetford understood the situation and responded promptly. I’d be interested to know how you get on with the new kit and yes I’ll give you a shout if we venture your way. Best regards, Rob

Hi Rob, great video. I was unable to get a kit for a C250 so went for the C260 kit knowing the filter would not fit. My intention was to buy a C250 filter. However the Reed switch that comes in the kit does not fit the C250 housing. The new flush control panel does not recognise the original single level Reed switch and flashes full continuously. The flush and fan work ok. Do you know if this problem will be overcome by buying a multilevel C250 Reed switch PCB?
@robswiseways56973 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, The C250 ventilator kit is still listed on the Thetford website, part number 50703. The C250 multi level reed switch part number is 50715 and the C250 filter part number 50764. Try contacting leisure spares on 01423 320009. They also have a website www.leisurespares.co.uk I purchased all my parts from them. If you can get hold of that reed switch it should solve the problem. Hope it all goes well. Regards Rob

Hi Rob, Nice vid and well explained. Is there a difference between fitting a vent pipe without the aid of a fan on these things co that the casettee is constantly vented?
@robswiseways56975 жыл бұрын
Thank you Pat. Although the kit is called a ventilator, it is actually an extractor. I don't think a pemanent vent pipe without a fan would really extract odours, and they could even be blown back in if it was wnidy outside. With the Thetford kit you get zero odours from the cassette. Hope this helps. Rob
@robswiseways56975 жыл бұрын
Sorry pat if you have purchased a kit. I found out by accident that you can have what is called a passive vent. To do it correctly, a hole still still needs to be cored out of the floor and the plastic funnel (adapter) fitted as in the video. Cut the hole under the toilet as if you were fitting the fan. You will need the foam seal on top of the filter compartment lid to seal the gap under the cassette. Then the foam seal under the toilet to form the seal to the floor. The odours travel through the filter compartment (without a filter) and through the floor to the outside. There are no part numbers on the parts diagram for the foam or adapter. You will have to contact Thetford to see if they are available seperatly.
@HeritageExplorer5 жыл бұрын
There probably is some merit in having it fan assisted to draw away the smells at flushing times. Doing it passively is still probably worth a try. Thanks for your update comment.

Hi Robs, I need your help. Unfortunately I broke the vent plate, is the cover of the carbon filter with the oring, that close the cassette. seem that is not an optional from Thetford. do you when I can find one? I have a C263S with a new fan system.the fan is without dedicated button, start with a first push on the flush button, and stop automatically after 5 minutes. I hope you can help me. regards Michele

Hi Rob what's the difference between c250 and c260?
@robswiseways56975 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video Harry. The C250 was discontinued in 2011. The C260 was an improved model. Some noticable differences are the flush button panel, the reed switch that senses the float in the cassette and differences to the actual shape of some of the plastic mouldings (that's why the charcoal filter is different for the ventilator kit). Also the flush tank water pump was mounted outside the tank on the 250 and inside the tank on the 260. Hope this is helpful. Kind Regards Rob

Hi Rob, great video. My c260 flush isn't working. Can you tell me if there is a fuse in the c260 unit itself and if so where exactly is it. Thanks dave.
@robswiseways56975 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dave. I understand that the fuse is a self re-setting one and is built into the reed switch (I think). The reed switch is behind the panel at the back of the cassette compartment as in the video. Lets say there is power at the main wiring plug feeding the toilet to the front right of the cassette compartment. Next is to check to see if there is power feeding the control panel. You will have to take the sticker off then gently prise the panel out as in the video. If there is no power then its the fuse in the reed switch that hasn't reset. If there is power then check the pump by applying 12v power to the wires feeding the pump. If the pump is ok then it could be the control panel or vacuum breaker. Or, if its the pump, check to see if it needs cleaning. You will need to take the control panel off anyway to access the pump. Hope this helps. Kind Regards Rob

Hi Rob, has this modification made a difference or did your van come with this kit fitted?
@robswiseways56975 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, After seeing it as a standard fit in a friends motorhome, I decided to look into it and found that it was a retro-fit kit. So I purchased one and fitted it. The ventilator is a brilliant piece of kit, does the job 100%, wouldn't be without it. The multi level waste indicator makes life easier because as the cassette fills it lets you know in three stages instead of the standard single red 'full' light. The third red light also flashes when the casstte is taken out to be emptied warning occupants not to use the toilet. You can see how it works in my video titled 'Thetford Cassette Toilet Factory Options Demonstration & Channel Intro'. Best Regards Rob

Why is it that they don't automatically install this kit and make it part of the unit? Seems to me it's something everyone would want included to help eliminate odors inside your rv.
@robswiseways56974 жыл бұрын
I totally agree Michelle but in the uk its down to the RV manufacturer to either specify it as standard or offer it as an option. Unfortunately the ventilator is not something you see much of at all in the uk. Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob

@robswiseways56974 жыл бұрын
The ventilator is a fan and does emit some noise. I wouldn't describe our fan as loud. You can hear it in my video titled 'Thetford Cassette Toilet Factory Options Demonstration & Channel Intro'. If your fan is louder then maybe something isn't right. Rob
@cicko674 жыл бұрын
Robs Wise Ways It is brand new. I put additional foam between vents housing and toilet housing, that vibrations cant go thru. It is better, but still very loud for the night use.
@robswiseways56974 жыл бұрын
Three things to check. 1) The airflow arrow on the side of the fan unit is pointing down. 2) The fan is held down securly with the self adhesive foam. 3) Nothing is catching the fan blades. I had a problem with the fan speeding up and down and then after a few days it stop working. I thought is was the fan but it turned out to be the control panel at fault. Because sound travels further at night, you could always switch the fan off as soon as the flush button is pressed.
