Where is it claiming to be 'perfect', you're reaching for argumentation. I agree btw, not only might this not be perfect, it might as well be a hoax *gasps*. On the other hand, this isn't 2008 where most commenters pull their 'wow killer failure' facts and arguments from but one full decade after, during which we have seen nothing but failed or semi-failed projects which did nothing but heighten the demand for mmorpgs. So basically all of us are doing nothing but guessing but the developers are steadily releasing footage and info which is reaffirming their stance and promises. So I'm going with optimism as they haven't yet done any of the NMS or Activision bullshit that people are being wary about. Who wants to play 'insert game' from 2 decades ago for eternity?

This! I love game lore, but I hate it when NPC's just throw a generic wall of text at you explaining the world and stuff in detail. I love it when a game tells a story through its world and through short lines from NPC's like they expect you to know the lore for the world since you're in it.

haven't read the lore whatsover yet thats offered but seems like the basic setting is "This planet that we're on had many civilizations, something happened, then ashes of creation apocalypse happens? where everyone is at war, then in the end something wiped out the population. So now we've travelled back to this planet(steven mentioned something like that, so idk where we were besides on this planet) and we're rebuilding and our goal is to find out what caused the destruction in the past.

The node system is genuinely one of the coolest features I've ever seen in a game. The ability to grow and shape a settlement by doing normal adventuring activities seems really fun and offers a lot of possibilities. I hope it takes off and becomes something other games imitate. I'm imagining other games that work well in, such as a post apocalyptic setting like Grim Dawn, seeing settlements grow and shrink as you contribute or ignore them would add a lot of personality to different playthroughs, even in a single player game.

@@jimmyn7t i understand your caution considering all the failed mmorpgs that came out in the past few years. . I'm not hyped because I somehow have unrealistic expectations because of this video so don't get me wrong. I'm hyped because it's a potentially different direction for the mmorpg genre. . Simply doing endless amounts of filler side quests used to lengthen the games lifespan has taken a huge toll on my mind over the years. I feel like the mmorpg genre as a whole needs to be shifted in another direction, one without time-gating or filled with impact-less features that don't really matter. . Im simply hyped for this game because as of watching this video I can tell this is going to be something different than every other mmorpg. Originally when I first heard about this game I thought it was going to be like 3 nodes all in constant pvp with each other like factions from wow or eso or something. I honestly thought it could be a 3d version of that full loot steam pvp game albion online... I didn't really have a good impression of the game overall and let the game fade out of my memory. . This game will probably be a nice breath of fresh air at the very least. I don't think we're going to get the most amazing experience or one even remotely close to what was shown in this video because not everyone has a nasa super computer, but simply by them changing the mmorpg formula it will be very refreshing and enough for me to at the very least look into trying. . Not everything is a positive though. I don't like the fact that the player base will be split over multiple servers. I think this will negatively impact the game and I personally dislike this kind of game mechanic.If the world is big enough to host 10k players, instead of having multiple servers, why not just have multiple channels instead? That way you can group with your friends and not have to worry about their server filling up and you getting stuck in a queue or being unable to ever join their server. It's just an inconvenience. . Overall i'm simply hyped for the games unique take on the mmorpg formula, and for the doors this game COULD open for the mmorpg genre as a whole. I do have my expectations for the game in check though. Lag / latency, optimization and graphic appearance on low end pcs, lots of factors will contribute to whether this game is an amazing experience. Still hyped though.

There's nothing wrong with that, until you get tired of it (and at that point you have another problem). Either way, letting yourself get hyped and support possibilities helps the actual thing to become reality. In his case, by supporting the game, the devs, letting others feel okay supporting them too and all that. And while that sucks in retrospect, when it fails and we get disappointed, we shouldn't let that stop us from supporting, because otherwise you deny supporting and hinder the upcoming of good projects.

I'm really hopeful but skeptical. As a veteran mmo player, I'm particularly worried about the idea of trade hubs and stock exchanges being destructible. One city's destruction over the weekend by a troll army could have huge effects on economy of the game. To give an example of how bad this could get, imagine spending 200+ hours of griending just to get a particular rare drop, putting it on the market to sell over the weekend, coming back on Monday to find the towns been completely nuked and all your hard work is now gone. And also if you're a filthy capitalist dog like I am having my millions of gold flipping trades suddenly disappear would be devastating. Also it's unclear if banks can be destroyed too, so you could potentially lose everything in one day Even if you're logged off. Also I feel it's worth mentioning that nodes being reset creates its own issues and it's highly unlikely that many nodes will ever become a metropolis. as there will be constant wars resetting everything back to zero. Another thing that bothers me is the player killing system in regards to becoming corrupted. Sure you can become a criminal, but what's the incentive to pk other players if you're penalized for it? Now I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any penalties for murder in game, however nerfing offender's damage and allowing him/her to lose their items removes any reason why anyone would ever wanna do it, outside of trolling purposes, which is exactly the kind of thing you don't want your pvp community to be consisted of. It's also unclear if you get to loot other players on death, which if you can't, would mean PKing would be absolutely pointless. All and all, there's ton of potential here, but also alot that could be executed poorly, or even exploitable under the right conditions. Will I still sink hundreds of hours into it? Definitely, but for the issues mentioned above I'm still very skeptical. We shall see

Yeah the more and more this video dragged on about the just endless amount of things planned for the game the more and more my excitement dropped. Definitely seems like they're trying to do waaaaay too much straight out of the gate and I bet on release most of it will be half complete or non existent because even though they spent a shit ton of time programming it they couldn't get a working version done fast enough. It's such a stupid mistake that so many developers make. They should just create a super solid super enjoyable base game, release it, and then work on constant updates adding things. Instead it seems like they're trying to tackle waaay too many massive things all at once and they're eventually just going to run out of funding and be forced to release a half complete mess in a desperate attempt to keep funding it's development.

@@djgolden5903 In a perfect world that is what we would get. But the problem with games like this is that they set their goals and ambitions so high without having a logical road plan in place that they almost always fail to deliver. They spend years and years making their game but eventually the money well runs dry and they end up screwed. They end up having to release some 1/4th complete disappointing mess as a last ditch effort to bring in more money to keep their funding alive. And it's a failure for everyone involved, developers and players alike. When it comes to a game like this they need a much more structured and logical road plan that involves releasing a solid and polished game asap and then fleshing it out to the extremes over time. Not trying to go to the extremes right out the gate. I hope they can accomplish what they want, but I am not optimistic.

@@Atomic-Blast- No real MMORPG will ever be close to Yggdrasil in this day and age. Not only because realistically, making a skill tree as extensive as DnD classes is so freaking hard to handle(in a conceptual and a balancing way) for any company that also focuses on other games/domains of work, but also because it will take so much time to develop, at least triple as much as a normal good game of the past years (In all types, not only RPGs), which would mean basically 8 years of development minimum to make a game with as much content as Yggdrasil, and 3 years worth of extensions if the devs try to add completely new content. Not even mentioning the tech that would develop faster than the game and the fact that YGGDRASIL IS A FULL DIVE VRMMORPG GAME. (and keep in mind we're almost to the time the SAO incident happened, and we still haven't invented full dive technology). ... That's a good thing Yggdrasil exists a century after our own. Gives plenty of time to see what's good or not to make an MMORPG as good as it is. Though I would hate it having a P2W cash shop and the differences in races killing in PVP(it's said you get more rewards for killing players of the Monster races iirc), even if that's how Ainz Ooal Gown started out. -I would also like a way to convert in game money to IRL money so people can quit their jobs and sink the economy forever lmao-

I'm loving the whole pvp aspect you're describing, it sounds like it really does appeal to everyone with open world, bounty system, penalties for pvp on the lower lvls but still gives the option and the whole risk vs reward sounds great, something most MMO's have long forgotten in this day and age. Looking forward to it.
@FNLNFNLN4 жыл бұрын
"Risk vs reward sounds great" There's a reason games don't do that anymore. Most players just optimize the risk vs reward down to a few safe options, and you've just wasted a ton of development time on content that barely ever gets used.

@Mamsaturatdevoi4 жыл бұрын
@@FNLNFNLN The reason why games don't do it anymore is because they just don't want to bother with it anymore. Having the risk too high will make PvP players not do that content, as it's not worth it and most importantly not fun (which as you said, means a lot of wasted development time and money). Having the risk be too low (which a lot of open world MMOs have done, and this is the primary reason why PvE players have PTSD every time they hear "Open World PvP MMO") will make the gameplay experience miserable for PvE players. So rather than carefully balancing the thin line between risk and reward, developers just said "Screw it" and gave up on trying to implement this and ultimately, it meant they gave up on making MMOs that are truly designed for both PvP and PvE players (without one group having to suffer). Just because it's difficult to implement correctly, doesn't mean that there's an issue with a feature/system. We just need more competent and passionate developers; hopefully, we have that with AoC.

I'm worried that this will be a problem with streamers having the ability to just own the server. Like they'll decide to power level a node and their viewers will help. Then when it's time for a different node, suddenly a good portion of the server is sieging the metropolis. I like the idea of some people or guilds being extremely influential on the server but it would be much cooler if it was organic instead of based on real-world following. Unfortunately, I don't think that's possible in the age of Twitch.
@Frosty_Tips_4 жыл бұрын
At least the destruction of that Metropolis will be watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers, perhaps even 1M on that streamer's twitch and youtube "highlight" reel and not just another unknown battle on just another unknown server between two kings no one heard of. Imagine it... as the godless streamer lands his ancient fire breathing dragon next to the beaten Monarch/High Priest of this once great Divine node he'll look the streamer king in his eyes and then at the twitch camera and shout for all the spergs to hear, "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!" and with that the dragon mount bits his head off and his royal robes fall to the dirt. But what then happens to a godless streamer who destroys the only Divine metropolis on the server? An entire city devoted to the Gods. Do you think the Gods will not seek revenge? That streamer will want to get his generals back to his castle and his royal crafters upgrading their walls further because that next night if he has any brains he'll know a horde of monsters are coming for him, with champions of the Gods as their generals. The sound of thunder is a cloudless sky upon the death of the divine king should be his warning.

New ones often have a good start, but then after a month, maybe two, the player base drops massively, causing servers to become ghost towns and communities not able to get build all that well. Offcourse the reaction here will be "you are way to negative, this is not gonna happen this time, this is the promised game we all been waiting for", yeah i heard that about GW2, i heard that about Archage especially, i heard that about so many MMORPG's, yet the most popular MMORPG is still World of Warcraft, with Final Fantasy Online being a good second, and they are buy to play with subs, so sure you will have some F2P MMORPG's having more numbers but thats due to the free aspect and those games don't really have a steady community either, they just have alot of people comming in to check it out.
