2 Weeks after this video released Intrepid announced that the world size is being increased to 1,200 km squared. They also reduced the number of nodes in the world at launch to 85 regular nodes with 15 additional castle nodes (5 castles x 3 castle nodes each) for a total of 100 nodes. It will take around 75 minutes on foot to travel from the top of a continent to the bottom, around 50 minutes mounted.

I wonder if there will be a mmorpg that creates playable characters that are terrifying as enemy boss ranging from normal humanoid form to monsters such as giants and dragons. Their numbers should be limited yet can be a devastating group that can impose dangers. In example roles as close to an aggressive or defensive creature within its area of responsibility or just leveling up to become that heinous villain. That character can quest to become stronger and harder to defeat and can become a recipe of destruction bringing havoc to other players which higher level players that has a hero aspect should achieve leveling up to par with this villain players. Villain players shouldn't be allowed to attack all the time as they should have time to build plan and buff up. But imagine just ranging from 1, 3 to 10 villains vs a guild of 100. Monster player(s) defeating a battalion of guild is a f**king awesome achievement. Battle scars should be in its skin after a war event.

I think Ashes has the potential to be good, but the success of a lot of its systems will depend on player behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if the min/max mindset will make the game unplayable for everyone that is not part of a "winning" node for example. I'd agree that AoC has a lot of systems to be hyped about, but at the same time, that also means there's a lot that can go wrong. New World - while definitely not the best game in the world - showed that some of the aspects of a somewhat-similar PvP-based MMO aren't really the most favored by the majority of the player base. While AoC has always been developed as being a fairly niche game, I could see some of these aspects as making it even *more* niche. I also imagine that certain streamers - as long as they stick with the game - will tend to have some major advantages over other players, which could highly skew the situation on some servers. I don't know if that will end up being a good or bad thing, but it will certainly cause *some* sort of issues. Overall, while hype is good, I do think people need to temper their hopium intake a bit. I do want the game to be good, but just the amount of balancing this game is going to need makes me skeptical about how it'll end up.

I’d like to hear more about the class system… feels like the class / subclass combos have not been elaborated on a ton.
@KubinWielki2 жыл бұрын
From what i've read on the wiki, your Primary class determines your active and passive skills (and weapons you can use, I think), while the secondary class gives you 4 types of "auguments" you can apply to your active skills. So, a mage secondary class would give you some elemental or teleportation auguments. If you slap teleportation on an active skill, it'd add a mobility component to it (the example they gave was changing the Fighter's "charge" ability that normally has you take a run-up to hit an enemy, but with the teleport augument you forgo the running part and instantly teleport-slam into your target). The system itself sounds interesting, and I hope they are able to consistently come up with good combos (but realistically, with 64 classes, each with like 10 active skills and 4 auguments available, the combos are just simply bound to vary from useless to OP, at least at launch).

@celuiquipeut65272 жыл бұрын
The mercenary system will be 100% player made. Because of politics. A renegade group of nomad, able to be hired to destabilise a node, or even, for a military node, you can pay people to sign in for the fight, they help you out kill others and once its done, they let the client kill them. Or a mercenary group that attack caravans to disrupt a rival node or steal the resources. Since its a PvP open world, you could create a band of thieves killing innocent people on a road. Imagination is the limit. And i am very exited for that. It reminds me of Age of Wushu in that regard.

Game basicly died before it got relesed , devs said "this is 1.0" and not relesed patch since who is funny as it advertised itself terraria killer i see a lot of these in mmos , every new mmo promises 100 features but when game releses it has maybe 20 from these 100 , and these 20 not even worked particulary well , after 3-9 months lots people leave , publisher sees lost revenue and cuts development , and mmo becomes f2p next year or few years , to close its server in 4 years , and cycle repeats we need solid fun gameplay , and features after. i know im probably over sceptical , but after no mans sky and so many AAA games who lied about...half of the game , its hard not to be. once first public beta or alpha or "when i can try the game" i can judge it.

If my housing is not safe, after all of my time and effort put into it, only to lose it to other players, whether griefers or not, then this game gets a hard pass from me. They can keep it.
@xeno97542 жыл бұрын
Housing and storage are separate as far as i can tell. There is in node housing and free holds. In node housing is destroyed if the node falls during siege. You will regain most of what you lost. You Freehold can only be attacked if the node your are part of falls. So far it goes like this. The attackers set down a siege declaration on a node. It costs roughly the same it costs to upgrade the node to its current level. The moment the declaration is down, certain services are no longer available. You can no longer use the caravan system. That means no taking out large quantity of items out of the storage to bring them to safety. This goes for the entire siege preparation The higher tier a node is, the more time the defenders have to prepare. If the attackers win the node is completly destroyed all the way to level 0. A small % of the items stored inside the node are part of the loot for the attacker. After the node is destroyed there is a window of X time everyone can attack the Freeholds. You may be able to hire guard npcs to protect your freehold for that duration. If the node is sucessfully defended, it can not be attacked again for a limited time depending on tier. The highest tier gets a 45 real life days of safety. Also node sieges will be by current design 250 vs 250 with 500 vs 500 as speculation. This means that even if you as a solo player are not part of the defense, others will be. The higher the node the more likely large guilds are there to defend them. Also Freeholds are no PVP zones. So people cant gank you while you are inside your freehold. ---- Housing is separated into Instanced and non instanced. There will be Apartments that are "Cheap" instanced housing. The more people take an apartment, the higher the cost. you can off course buy a house inside a city and no one else will be able to by a house at the location you bought out. As long as you pay your taxes that is. All in all i say even Casuals can optain housing. Maybe not in a tier 6 city but in a tier 3 or tier 4 one? I dont see why not. ashesofcreation.wiki/Freeholds
@valhallagalex2 жыл бұрын
Someone can't attack just *your* housing. They'd be attacking the whole city. As long as not all casuals go to one city, you should be fine as some of the tryhards/sweats will be protecting YOUR city/loot too, when they are protecting theirs. It actually sounds pretty cool.

I kind of hope progression in the game is on the slower side because I’d honestly say that’s what made games like EverQuest and Vanilla WoW so memorable. The fact that people rushed to endgame in New World and had nothing to do is honestly probably what killed it because tbh, I had a shit load of fun leveling in New World.

I keep hearing that an MMO has never attempted season changes. Asheron's Call by Turbine was the first to do season changes back in 1999 where they did 4 seasons that changed every real life quarter across the entire game world. I know it's not more fluid and slick as Ashes of Creation's before-your-eyes melting snow and in as little as 2 weeks on a per node bases, but still, giving credit where credit is due. Turbine of course went on to make MMOs such as Dungeon's & Dragon's Online and Lord of the Rings Online. (You could see their ridiculous waterfall graphics in all 3 games, lol).

At 20:30 I noticed something which concerned me, "Players cannot transport goods from their warehouse during this time and many services in the node will also be disabled until the outcome." If the countdowns run from 2 - 5 days, wouldn't that be really dysfunctional economically for anyone living in that node? And if anyone can start a node siege, isn't there a ton of room for griefing and basically locking folks out of their resources over and over again? The only positive outcome might be if post-victory a node is protected for 30 days or something to avoid perpetual warehouse locking. Hmm. Otherwise I'm encouraged by the various prospective features. Let me know if I'm overthinking this and they already have a solution planned.

I agree, but I think it would be cool to see some type of hybrid flying mount where you can fly up for a couple seconds (20-40ft) before your mount gets fatigued and you can glide down slowly.. And you can also run and kinda double jump with your wings just like 15ft up and glide.. So you're still very attached to the ground so you're still immersed in the environment. And with that mount, you could also maybe glide for up to 6 seconds or so before falling, if you jumped off a cliff or something. It would be a hard mount to get. Maybe end game content. Just an idea..

Structured PvP and sieges where everyone is there for the PvP is fine and right up my alley but the part in the video where you show red and purple players ganking green non-combat players is exactly what ruins PvP for me. If the community fully embraces the game and the risk reward philosophy it is built on, and the possible "negative" and positive experiences they will have playing, then it will be a huge success, if they instead do what I fear, wanting a guaranteed dopamine hit for simply loading up the game then in my opinion, it will kill off any real hope for the genre.

So far, what interests me is the node system and economic features of the game. Buuuuut knowing my tendency to go solo in MMORPG games at a certain point, I might just end up being a bounty hunter/mercenary/outlaw or some sort of vagabond 😂

You can't. That won't be a thing. Its a forced group content game. There is no solo content nor will there ever be. The developers don't think games without forced group content are "real" MMOs.

I love AoC, was an early KS backer, and played everything from Apoc to A1. That being said something that worries me about this game is the seeming lack of direction of what the foundational product looks like. Anyone who has work in game or software dev knows how easy it is for products to get indefinitely side tracked by "wouldn't be cool if...". While it's great to be hyped for the game, we need to acknowledge the warning signs of mismanagement: Constant failures to meet deadlines and creating unrealistic timetables, the game constantly undergoing massive design changes, when you're 5 years in and primary functions like combat are still kinda up in the air as to how they want it to function and feel, a lot of "here's what we plan on adding" and not "here's what we've fleshed out and completed". Major talent leaving the team (I won't pretend to know the real reasoning). I could go on. To be clear I love this project and want it to succeed, but I fear the infinite loop of cool ideas never fully manifesting. I don't know how they're funding the project, but how long can they continue to do so without a playable product bringing in revenue from consumers and with press coverage always being super positive, they never really get held to account for the multitude of failures.
@moji962 жыл бұрын
You bring out a good point. While i'm super impressed by the new stuff they flashed out, i still feel like they did a bit of this and a bit of that but nothing is really complete. The combat still looks mediocre at best. Their lore is just a bunch of text in quests. I hope they add voicelines and cinematics. So far only their character creation looks complete but nothing else looks close to completion at least.

The more I see about the scope and realism of the node system, the more I want to know what safeguards there will be to prevent it from being completely exploited by a rich or 20-hrs-a-day-playing few. What is there to stop the richest guild from just buying up all economic mayorships and bribe the votes for scientific ones, and just start running the server like their own massive, casual trampling money making machine? I don't want to end up losing my house because the richest few on the server wanted to make a bit more profit by switching to a different resource node, and if I wanted a world with a rich elite in control I'd just.. go outside.

i am also wondering how they plan to prevent some of these things, as excited as i may be for the game, it makes me nervous that it will end up being just another "new world". it sounds like keeping up with the game and making any real progress will be left for the few that can still drop 6-8hrs a day to keep up and log in daily. But your average player will never be able to make it anywhere. just by the way it sounds, you will need to truly invest time into the game, and what if you are unlucky and choose the wrong node where no one really plays and it doesnt progress at all.... but two nodes down its very populated by the hardcore players, but there is nothing u can do there or afford to make your way into that node. It will leave you bored and feeling stuck, also i hope that they dont release like 20 servers for each time zone... you will need a lot of players to make a map feel alive... and if you end up in a dead server or a dying server then your time investment will have meant nothing. i just see a lot of flaws to this. I hope that they are taking some of these things into consideration, i really want the game to succeed

Join a military node or a service node. If you are on a server where people are easily bribed, and you dont like it, you can swap servers. This isnt hard, fam.

Great informative video. Hadn't heard of it as nothing has really come close to the experience I had with FFXI back in the day. My favorite thing being the contestable world bosses but that did not have the PVP element thrown into the mix. The MMO experience over the last few years has been incredibly disappointing, this looks promising. Also hoping for SEA Servers, somehow despite the number of gamers in this part of the world they always seem to get forgotten.

Not sure how I feel about the lack of fast travel and non-global storage having played New World before these were added. They sound like good ideas until you've been playing for a couple of weeks and then they're just huge hassles and time wastes. I think even Elden Ring, which has the best open world experience in my opinion, would be super frustrating without fast travel.
@morisan422 жыл бұрын
I think flight paths like in WoW are pretty harmless, they are limited to certain parts of the zone, still let you see and be out in the world (even if sometimes you just alt-tab until the flightpath ends), and gives the game a sense of distance. I really hate when you can just click a button and teleport across the map, it takes what should be a living, breathing world and encourages you to just stick to major hubs making 90% of the map unused. I think a land-based automatic fast travel would be cool, like a horse and cart kind of thing which drives you around the map. Maybe there could even be NPCs that occasionally interrupt carriages or even make it a pvp based thing idk. It does get pretty old walking the same long roads, but equally it's the act of walking that brings the world to life and encourages you to engage with it. Otherwise you just end up with modern WoW where you stay in your faction's main city and spam group finder. It's pretty lame and makes the game feel like some wonky fps with matchmaking than an MMO

Great video. Learned a lot of new things and I'm very excited. HOWEVER my major concerns with these is always visuals, sound and combat. Combat looks like it's going in a great direction and the visuals have usually been on a upper moderate level. But those scenes at 31 minutes where the light hits the rocks? Boy if that lighting runs only on the then best graphics card on launch, I'll have it.

By the time this game comes out, I don't think that getting your hands on a GPU which can run this will be that difficult. With how good the even the 40 series and RX 7000 series is looking, something like an RTX 5060 or RX 8600XT should do fine at 1440p. If we're lucky, even a 5050Ti/RX 8500.

Thank you for the in depth review! this actually looks very interesting, however i am worried about open world pvp + it sounds like world bosses only drop loot for the group that killed it which is a huge turn off for me ngl. The way the world changes looks so cool though, as do the classes. I'd definitely like to try it out in any case when it launches years down the line from experience, all you have to do to be killed as a non-combatant is run into a player/guild who likes to kill players. that's it. esp if you drop more stuff (though it doesn't matter if they just like to be assholes)
