We purchased the Cannular shortly after it hit the market and have been putting it to the test in the Genus taproom ever sense. In this video we give a review of the product, compare it to the Oktober can seamer and give our opinion on the who this product is best suited for.

Great review, I've just upgraded from this model to the semi automatic cannular. The semi auto is so worth the little extra cost. I can 3000 cans per week. Easy for anyone to use. The fully adjustable can bed is of huge benefit for multiple can sizes. Both good machines, go for the semi automatic model. Happy brewing

Do you sanitize or rinse cans before filling/seaming? I've heard you can get good results without doing anything if the cans are fresh out of the package or that there may even be detrimental effects from common sanitizers

I purchased a Cannular when they were first released last year and haven't had a single problem. I have seamed over 200 cans so far without issue or adjustment. One thing I have yet to try is using standard 16 oz cans as opposed to the cannular brand. I would love to see a video on this. Thanks guys

Hey guys. I have a Cannular as well. I have had the same problem where the machine stops working. I believe the problem is the power supply. I am an Electrician by trade, and after doing some simple math I have discovered that the power supply is not correctly sized. I think it has a over current device in it that trips after heavy use, that will automatically reset after a short cool down rest. I’m going to try a heavier duty power supply and see if that helps. Cheers!!

I certainly wouldn't say its a quiet machine but when you consider it's bending metal the noise is expected. The Oktober was comparable in noise level. Overall the machine is hardly noticeable in a busy taproom but might not be ideal for midnight canning session in a quiet house.

@@ruanmuller3577 sorry, my bad. In their other video with English setter brewery they actually used co2 I think (but that sanitizer must be under some serious pressure to make that much noise). Although, here they filled the can until it basically overflowed so I don't think there would be any place left for air or co2.

The machine aside the cans are quite expensive. I can buy two full can's of soda for the price of one empty can. I can't see myself every using can's that are 50 cents each. I get the impression that the lids are also a separate purchase.

So its is BS when people say that canning doesn't hold fresh for as long? I have always been told that you have the drink Crowlers fresh but I was never able to come up with a valid reason as to why that is.

Oxidation
@ModernGameChangers
@ModernGameChangers 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jonobos But how? Its all the same process. Pour beer in can, cap on foam, and seem. Large scale canning lines do the same thing and those beers keep. There is either a missing piece to the puzzle or its one of those misguided notions that propagated so much that it is now "fact."
@SyBernot
@SyBernot 4 жыл бұрын
Many major automated beer canning lines pour and seam in a CO2 environment. Filling the can to the brim pushes nearly all the 02 out when you seal it, normal air is only 20% O2, so oxidation, IMO, is not going to be a problem. If you are can conditioning the 02 problem is a complete red herring. Your going to have more of an issue with head space and light influx in bottles.
@ModernGameChangers
@ModernGameChangers 4 жыл бұрын
@@SyBernot Okay thats what I thought. People seem to fixate on oxidation but it doesnt happen instantly haha. I figured it must be some fundamental thing I was missing or its a "wives tale". And/or its just a thing that breweries tell you just in case something goes wrong with the beer post canning. So if you drink it "fresh" they can more reliably assume that product you take home is still good rather then letting it sit in the fridge for a couple weeks and letting something develop.
@SyBernot
@SyBernot 4 жыл бұрын
@@ModernGameChangers fresh is always better (with heavily hopped beers) even under the best of circumstances. I just had a 5 year old stout that was amazeballs. I also have a Stone IPA in the fridge at work with an enjoy by in Feb of 2011, I tell everyone that's the emergency beer, if you see me drinking that, run. There is no way that beer will taste good, I pray it never happens but it's there if I need it. LOL.

@RoughAndWretchedRAW
@RoughAndWretchedRAW 2 жыл бұрын
These can seamers are literally the poster child for the saying "A fool and their money are soon parted". It's a motor and two form rollers people! A can opener has as much technology as this and this only does the same job as a bottle capper at between 10x and 20x the price. Way WAY cheaper ways to impress people. I could literally build one of these machines from scratch in my little 1 car garage in a weekend. Id bet I could build an manual version no motor no power packs just like a hand turn can opener in a sturdy base. Sorry if I'm upsetting folks but this machine is 9X to 19x over priced to capitalize on a fad.
@GenusBrewing
@GenusBrewing 2 жыл бұрын
I guess it comes down to how you value your time/money. Even if I could build this for $100 in materials and it took me 10 hours or lessI would still buy it over making it. Why cans over bottles? Because it's cool and some people want their beer in cans... I know people who've spent thousands on lawn ornaments... I'm not one to judge what makes people happy.
@RoughAndWretchedRAW
@RoughAndWretchedRAW 2 жыл бұрын
@@GenusBrewing Like I said "cool" a fad. I just hope not too many people who can't afford it are duped into it by the cool factor. Lol. what I find funny is that your opinion and promotion about buying this product over building it is exactly 100% opposite of buying the beer going in the can rather than building it. Don't think I'm just dumping on the insane price of this product. For the hell of it I did a search for a manual can sealer immediately after my comment here and they literally want more for a manual seamer than you are asking for this. What I am saying is the wife just bought a freaking apple peeler and corer that does more operations has more moving parts and that cost her $20 bucks Canadian. Not saying we should judge what makes people happy But I don't think we should be demanding obviously purposely exorbitant prices simply cause they want to be happy. If I ever decide to can my beer then I'll make my own. Won't cost $100 on materials. I've got the bar stock for the form rollers, motor and the scrap iron to build the frame right now to probably build a 1/2 dozen. Maybe 10 bucks for the table bearing per unit. Don't be upset. I'm the one that doesn't fit. It's like last years hay season. There was bad hay last year so prices went through the roof for bales Farmers cashing in on the bad luck of other farmers. We too made bales to sell and sold them for the previous years rate which was 1/2 price of other farmers. We all make the world we live in. I'm no socialist. I simply believe in fair market capitalism with morals and ethics and backed up with unshakable principles. Crony capitalism and socialism has folks like me standing outside and looking in on a blood bath greed and usury. It's that age old saying Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Ever single person we sold bales to last year came back to try buy some this year. That 100% unsolicited customer retention cause we didn't take advantage of them when we could have. Lat year the only reason we made extra bales is cause we knew people would be short and we knew we'd sell every one at a fair price.
