I love it. I set my drill press to 300 RPM's and hooked it into that. With a mount i made out of wood, i clamp it down. Paired with a foot power switch from amazon, it works amazing. Again, if you are a multi hobby person, you have a drill or some other type of tool around. Even if you get a corded drill, foot switch and ziptie for the trigger, you can make an awesome little machine. Next purchase is the mono fill and single arm mount for a monitor to put next to it.

Update! I used this for 12 - 16oz cans and it was straight amazing. I love the shield and ease of use along with the calibration came spot on! I just filled the cans from a tube from the bottom of the can with just enough foam to cap on. It displaced a little, but fear not! So happy to give away my homebrew to friends and family. Excellent job and thanks for covering it! I will eventually have to break down and begin canning but my two holdbacks are space (at the moment) and price with price being the biggest as they are very expensive but that is a considerable price reduction for a canner.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does bring it down to a "somewhat"doable range IMO. Sometimes they run specials where if you buy a canner you get a bunch of cans with it.. BONUS! 👍🍻

Very cool idea to lower the cost by them having you bring your motor to the party. Doesn't seem to take up much space either, but I assume storage of the empty cans is going to eat up their share of space.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the cans do take up some real estate for sure. But you can store them pretty much anywhere. They are super light even when a box is full. 👍🍻

Oktober makes some solid canning machines and I don't think you can go wrong with any level you purchase. Still the only catch in my book on this is the cost of single use cans. 31 cents for 12oz and 39 cents for 16oz.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get that and usually you can get bottles for free. The one thing I will say that it does save on is if you ship beers to anybody it definitely saves you quite a bit that way. I recently shipped three beers from Ohio to North Carolina for like $8. If I had sent it in bottles it would have cost probably $15 or $16. It's definitely a matter of personal choice on canning. It's also nice to be able to take cans to sporting events or Motorsports events where you can't take bottles.

@frankferber32252 жыл бұрын

@frankferber32252 жыл бұрын
Here is what Oktober told me, Shipping cans in general is expensive as they are very high-volume and low-weight. MoreBeer builds the shipping into the cost of their cans where-as we charge it separately. For example: Our larger box of 16oz (192 cans and lids) is $76. Shipping this box to your address is $42.98, for a total of $118.98. This comes out to less per-can than their box of 207 for $134.99 with "free shipping." Our niche smaller homebrewer cases have different margins on the cans themselves as they are similar labor on our end to make up but much less product. Unfortunately these are still categorized in a higher freight class due to their weight/volume ratio. Lastly, their cans are Metric, and 16.9oz cans will not work on a machine set up for 16oz. We do, however, make a Metric adapter set should you need to use their cans

I don't get why canning machines are so expensive. It's literally just 3 lathed discs and a spinning table. I feel that with a lathe and some hand tools it should be possible to make your own machine for next to nothing

It turns out you can get a hand held can sealer (for canned food) for about $20. There's the rollers you need. Then you have to make something to hold and spin the can while sealing. I'm sure it can be built fairly cheaply.

cool, price point being lower is nice. Still not worth the investment. I swore off bottles and went head long into kegs. The few and far between times i want to give a beer away or not simply purchase one an event that doesnt allow glass bottles in, doesn't justify $500 + each can. Now if they recoup their R&D money and decide to cut that price in half it could get closer to justifying it. Certainly think there's a large market for this, but really for the folks that have time and liquid cash to burn for the cool factor. (something that is extremely ramped in homebrewing IMO... K.I.S.S.)
@ShortCircuitedBrewers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally agree it's not for everybody. I think it makes some sense for people that ship beers to competitions or friends. Over the long haul it saves you lots of money and shipping. And definitely less prone to breakage. Again it's a matter of personal preference and what you do with your beer after you brew it. 👍🍻
