Actually, as a squirrel rehabilitator myself, I would suggest that those who couldn't get a rehabber should do exactly as this woman did. Doing research for proper diets, temperatures, amounts to feed, etc is the most important factor for a young squirrel's survival. Vets can sometimes take the animal, but usually won't keep it in the long run, and will seek out other rehabbers.

This is why geobeats is problematic. Squirrels are not domesticated, and they prefer being outside. This is not like having a pet dog or even rabbit. This is actual prison for the squirrel.

You can tell how much you absolutely adore him just from the tone of your voice, he clearly has a very, very special place in your heart. The fact you knew absolutely nothing about squirrels, yet took this little defenceless newborn in, & cared for him like a human newborn with strict feeding schedules etc round the clock, taught yourself everything there is to know about squirrels.. speaks volumes on your beautiful character. I wonder if Gordon’s mum abandoned him after detecting something was wrong? I’m so glad you found him & you & your family were the perfect people for the job. Some animals will abandon their babies when they know they are sick or have some sort of physical or nuerological disorder. That's what happened with our Boo. She was paralyzed from the waist down so she couldn't climb but she was so perfect no matter what. We had her for nearly four years before she passed away in 2012. I miss her every day.

When I was a kid, decades before you could instantly access almost any info via the internet, I found many abandoned baby animals - squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc. Equipped with little more than "common sense" and a love for animals, I rescued, fed, and rehabbed them as best as I could. Looking back, I'm amazed how well most of them recovered.

He is so adorable. My brother saved a tiny squirrel who fell out of the neighbor’s tree. He and his wife have saved many animals over the years so they made Suzy their second daughter, made her healthy and happy and took her to their friend’s beautiful farm, condo cage and all. Suzy lives like a queen and has been seen entertaining the neighbor squirrels now and then. Bless all the folks who rescue and heal animals in need. You are heroes.

A friend of mine has had the same experience. She found a baby squirrel in her driveway and tried to reconnect it with its mother but the other squirrels didn’t reconnect with it, so now she’s taking care of it.

I raised one many yrs ago. My husband found him while at work & he too had fallen out of the nest. My favorite memory is waking up after dozing off for a little while after getting my husband & kids off to work & school & finding him taking a bath on the kitchen table in one of the bowls of milk left from one of my kid's cereal. He had flung milk a country mile & some of the milk on him had started to dry & was stiff. I had a good laugh with nobody else around to enjoy it. They are very sweet, but in my experience once grown they get to a point where nature kicks in & they start to turn wild & aggressive. We returned him to the wild, which I believe is where he wanted to be.

When I was about 6 years old, my dad found a small injured squirrel on his way to work and brought it home to take care of him. Back then we used to boil the milk in a pot to pasteurize it (this was before it was done in the milk factory). Well, one day I was chasing the little guy and fell right into the pot of milk, luckily it was cool already. Needless to say he got scared, ran off and disappeared in our home. We've been looking all over, and finally after 2 days we found the little fellow wrapped up under some blankets in the laundry room. heh I never forget this incident, it was hilarious. :)

I had a cat that I took in and he realized he found a forever home. He was one of a kind cat. He was smart, just chill and the most wonderful boy. He went over the rainbow after Thanksgiving of last year. RIP Leo By the way, you were the one that the squirrel adopted. Animals choose who will take care of them and animals know kind people. My chihuahua brought a baby fox squirrel up from somewhere and gently laid the baby on our back door mat, back when I was a kid. It was so sweet because she knew that baby needed help because she had puppies at the time so she had her own babies to take care of, 9 of them to be exact. We raised Chester to be a big ol, full grown, fox squirrel. He was really a handsome squirrel. We built a big enclosure in my backyard for him complete with a tunnel of wire that led up a big pine tree and way out on a limb so he could lay on his little arms and sunbathe on warm days. He eventually got a bit aggressive because he was a male after all, so we released him as we had planned. He did well. We saw him from time to time.

Did that twice. Mom rarely takes back or already lost her life before they crawl out of the nest. Our last one bonded with me being the two hour feeder and had a great personality. At six months they often bite and leave. They normally return with a partner and babies of their own. Gordon is cute and males are very affectionate with women. Sweet little man.

I raised a baby Grey Squirrel. Their noses are right next to their mouth as babies compared to Red Squirrels and it was so hard to feed my squirrel without him choking. It was just like raising a baby as far as feeding hours. I wanted to keep him but I ended up releasing him bc he was so bored in the house by himself all day. They are the most amazing athletes and way smarter and loving than some people know.

I rehabbed a baby squirrel that fell out of a tree after a storm. I was leaving for work and noticed a baby squirrel on my drive way, eyes were still closed, and he was wet. Instead of waiting to see if mom would come by I swabbed him in a blanket because I feared he would’ve succumbed to hyperthermia. Raising a squirrel is hard work, especially when they’re less than a month old (or if you have cats). But just like the lady in the video says, it is so rewarding and the bond between you and that squirrel is one of a kind. We named him Tkachuk. About 2 weeks ago though, he left the house and I haven’t seen him since. It’s quite heart breaking, but simultaneously, I’m happy he chose to go back out and be with his kind.

I have done the same thing with baby squirrels and truly LOVED THEM TOO! I w raised them until they were adolescent and then took them to a rehabber, where she would take care of them until they were adults snd them release them to a squirrel safe space with water nearby and other squirrels, and it warmed my heart so❤❤❤❤❤❤

This fall we found a baby about the same age as your little guy. I did the baby care and feeding after rushing to research what he would need. He’s a red squirrel!!! He also has poor vision in one eye. But he is so loving and love able . I feel blessed.
