My wife and I own a deaf dog and yes, she can go from totally asleep to totally happy, tail-wagging almost immediately. However, a lot of times, she startles so violently...you have to be very careful how you wake her up.

Yeah, dogs have a sixth sense that humans have evolved away from. That is an instinctual ability to read body languages and facial expressions. We still have it, but it is subconscious for most humans.

Dogs (and cats) totally pick up on our energy. Personally, I suspect that smell is part of it. We smell differently, depending on what we are feeling. They can smell SOOOOOO much better than us. Plus sound and tone of voice, body language, and other things we can't even imagine. This is how my cats always know when I am getting ready to take them to the vet. I can act totally like I'm not, but they can tell. They also totally pick up on if someone is in my house that I don't know well. I have even seen them growl like a guard dog lol. So I always talk to them like they understand what I'm saying. Because in many ways, they do.

@@MegaBanne They definitely have heightened senses. That's how they read our moods, make great therapy dogs, and like my dog can differentiate between getting a treat just because or getting treats because you are trying to coral them for bath time 😂.

I was a trucker. Lots of the places I stopped were pretty noisy. I travelled with my dog. Because of noise, we communicated through hand signals. Dogs don't need hearing. Between sight and smell, they get more information about their surroundings than any human. I Love your dog.

The best female cat I ever had had been dumped in my yard in the snow. It took me a month to figure out she was deaf! I talked to her also, and we developed our own sign language. I miss her every day. Her name was Lucy.

I also had one totally deaf, partial sight in one eye and one good eye. She was beautiful. The Breeder was going to have her euthanized but we took her. We had her for 13 years and she was just adorable. I used to talk to her too. I'm sure she understood sometimes.

Mia is a great dog wow. I’d take her home asap. She has a tender heart and loving personality. Since I’ve seen a few videos of deaf dogs who seem to make out well, I’m going to keep them on my radar. These videos while they’re so precious, they’re also really helpful. ❤🐕

Georgia Fan agree 💯,after watching these videos, talking with my vet and parents of furbabies with special needs am definitely ready to try. My vet said in talking about 4 of our babies when they got old 3 went blind and 1 was deaf and blind. He said did you feel any differently about them of course andwer was hell no! We just made some slight changes like they didn't have to catch they're treats we brought the cookies to them, did alot of gentle touches to let them know where we were etc. Our vet looked at us smiled and said sounds like y'all have already been trained by the best, don't worry yr ready!

This dog was born deaf. But dogs who become deaf can become aggressive. They deserve love to, but can be harder to take care of. Some of them are so miserable that one needs to consider euthanasia.

@@JayCee_64 They are incredible. Do get genetic testing and buy from a reputable breeder. The tests will limit your exposure to some common issues like hip dysplasia, several eye issues and epilepsy. All breeds have their unique health issues. Our guy is great- though I found a tick this morning! I hate those evil things. I don't give him any tick meds (poisons.) I feed him homemade food (very important.) See The Forever Dog for free recipes and tips if you do get a dog- excellent book. I do not neuter- ever. Adopting is also a great thing to do...but only get a dog if you are ALL in- for better or worse. Don't get one, get bored and angry with regret and then take it out on the animal. You have to be unselfish and loving. They are a lot of work. A lot of sacrifice and some expense.

Sadly most people still place no value on special needs animals viewing them as headaches - and many don't even want their special needs children. And there should be no breeding allowed until every animal in rescue or shelters is adopted. She is a beautiful testament to what love can do.

This is such a lovely story. When I took my dog to training classes a few years ago, there was a deaf dog in the class. It was a cavalier King Charles spaniel. He was the sweetest dog in the entire world. Since we were learning vocal and hand signals, the deaf dog did an excellent job learning commands. Deaf dogs are the best!

I had a pitbull terrier and taught her sign language and stomp vibrations..2 stomps is no, one is come..she was so smart, it was easy to teach..my neighbors loved her and wanted to learn her signs. Man she was a dream dog, had her 14yrs before she passed! Miss her everyday!

It is very easy and so rewarding! I had a cattle dog for 21 years that went blind at one year old. She adapted so well and was always so happy, that it was always a source of inspiration for me and everyone who met her.

We had a dead dog at the shelter for nearly 2 years that nobody seemed to want to adopt due to her deafness. She was such a sweet and good girl! I posted her bio everywhere and finally one special foster took her and was happily a foster fail. She is now living her best life!

It's a tragedy that any animal would be considered no good no matter what's wrong with them I just wish people would do the responsible thing and at least give him a finding a chance by taking him to a local pound so they can be adopted by good people I just get so heartbroken to see how many animals are discarded and treated like they're nothing if I won a million dollars tomorrow identity to every single shelter so everybody can get a dog fixed spaded or neutered cats included it's just a tragedy but thank you for doing what you did for this baby amen your God's angels

We had an old english sheepdog, went deaf at 12 then blind at 14, died at 16. It used its nose and memory map to get around, would come when we stamped on the floor. Died happy. Its amazing, having a disabled dog is no harder than having an able bodied one. When we spoke to it, it could feel the same vibrations as when it could hear. What they were hitting I dont know, but its real.

Dogs are so sensitive to personal energy! And scent. I'd think hearing is a sense they can lose and still do very well. When you talk to Mia, I'm certain you're delivering the bright positive energy she loves. She can feel that!
