They have no significant predators, and they're not native (but might as well be by now). Their population has to be controlled, and I guess this is how the government chose to do it. Dunno why spaying and neutering won't work, but I'm not a vet.

Bless this wonderful lady for determinedly getting Stargazer & Nora back together & giving them a far better life than they might have got elsewhere. Who else can’t see a valid reason for rounding up wild horses and stealing them away from their home in the wild?!
@yarmch3686
@yarmch3686 18 күн бұрын
I wrote a comment earlier but I’ll post it here too. “In their search for forage, wild horses are tearing up high-desert vegetation, degrading riparian areas, and trampling fragile native plants. Free-roaming horses and burros are a major cause of the destruction of biocrust-the top layer of desert soils, which has been shown to be an anchor of desert biodiversity.” This is the reason why the horses are rounded up. As sweet as this story is, the horses being captured and auctioned off is a necessary evil as their numbers could impact the local wildlife. Remember that the wild horses of America aren’t actually native, nor true wild horses. They’re feral domestic horses. The only true wild horse left in the world is the Tahki. The last native wild horse of America was 11-13,000 years ago, and since then the ecosystem has changed without them. Should they have better holding facilities for the horses? Absolutely. The treatment and conditions they suffer are inhumane.

@yarmch3686
@yarmch3686 18 күн бұрын
@@SilverAuntie of course. However, it’s more like these horses were never really wild to begin with. Feral animals and wild animals are different- feral is a domestic animal turned loose and grew without human contact. They were bred for work and brought over to the Americas. Saying that ‘American wild horses should be left to be free’ is like saying ‘Feral cats and dogs should be left to be free,’ and cats/ dogs are also bad for the local wildlife. I love horses. They’re beautiful animals and a sight to behold watching them run together in herds. But I believe we see them through very rose tinted glasses whenever the conversation on what to do about the feral herds is brought up. It’s a heartbreaking decision. Edit to also mention that yes, Cattle grazing does way more damage to the land than the wild horses do because of the sheer number of them. Cattle ranchers are very irresponsible and should also be called out for their overgrazing, but that doesn’t change the fact that the horses are still a problem for the land itself and, unfortunately, don’t actually belong to the American west’s ecosystem.

Inhabitants, whatever species, of any lands anywhere that turn out to be “inconvenient” to the ambitions and plans of the wealthy and powerful get removed, whether via “roundups,” via engineered Balkanizations and conflicts, wholesale genocides, whatever is required for the “worker ants” to carry out. May be learn to recognize that, throughout your whole life, you’ve been relentlessly indoctrinated to unquestioningly revere “authority.” May be learn to question. I know there must be just the "right words" somewhere out in the universe to say how this video makes me feel. But I can't find the right words. So I guess I'll have to settle for this: I first felt & will forever feel confused & deeply angry at our cold, inhumane Govt... & so broken hearted for the far too many exquisite, frightened wild horses who they callously & thoughtlessly rounded-up, taking THEIR land, THEIR HOME from them, leaving them forever separated from their families & friends as if it... as if THEY don't matter. Then... we got to witness a beautiful piece of humanity when Nora & Stargazer, rescued by a selfless, loving woman, were reunited & given a loving home to share & to live out their lives together, free... as they were meant to be. God bless beautiful rescuer Melissa, an angel to whom I will forever be so very grateful. From the very depths of my heart I pray... may each of these wild horses be blessed with an angel like Melissa to rescue them.🙏

The federal government's logic is available on their website for the Bureau of Land Management. What they say there is that since there are so few natural predators remaining the wild horse population can increase by twenty percent each year, with the population doubling every 4 to 5 years, and the arid landscape does not provide enough natural resources to support that so, as well as occasional roundups they also employ birth control measures. The legal support for all that is a law which Congress passed in 1971, titled, the Wild-Free Roamming Horses and Burros Act. And says that law was created as eventual result of a 1950s effort to reduce the private hunting of wild horses via motorized vehicles. Also says that since the law was passed in 1971 it has been amended four times.

They claim to be managing the horses and resources. NV> did the round ups a while ago, stating there was not enough resources>>>water and food to maintain the heard. In 1991, when I first move to NV. I saw horses and donkeys all the time. Now, nope. Too much growth, people using up the water, so the horses had to go.

You'd think that "federally protected" would include "protection from being terrorized, rounded up and sold off as property" by that same "protective government". It begs the question on what these "federal protectors" do with the auction proceeds. This is just damned awful. Thank you again for stepping up for them.

Vote blue then. It’s much worse than portrayed here. Ranchers graze their cattle on federal lands; they get away with this because wealthy ranchers pay Republican decision makers $$$. Perdue is an example. Our wild horses are removed from federal lands via sniping from helicopters and rounding up into small pens left out in the blazing sun with no water. They die there; the ones still alive are sold for their meat. Mexico, Canada and China enjoy eating horse meat. Occasionally, horses are auctioned off to decent people but mainly, they are not. It’s big business. You will rarely, if ever, find a Republican politician voting to save an animal.

It could snap it's fingers and stop suffering but nope, just watches along. Oh, I know - what if I use my free will to let a child use its free will to STARVE TO DEATH - would you then praise and worship me for that? I mean your "god" does that on an hourly basis all day every day and you praise and worship it? BLM stipulates that any horse or burro purchased must remain in the United States until it is titled at the one year anniversary of its sale. The bill of sale states that the buyer agrees not to process any of the sold horses or burros into commercial products, or to knowingly sell or transfer ownership to any person or organization whose intent is to commercially process the animals. The requirements that an adopter has to meet are pretty strigent. Most people wouldn't meet the facilities requirements nor would they have the experience required to safely handle and train a mustang.

I am so happy that at least they are together and that is thanks to YOU! I don't know what to say except well done and that was really an accomplishment for you to manage their being together.

The government should not be rounding up the horses! There would be plenty of federal land if the ranchers weren’t grazing their animals there!

They should not be doing that, and if they get separated that puts a lot of stress on them especially if they grew up together. These government idiots don't realize horses feel just like other animals n ppl

Horses aren't native to the Americas. Horses aren't technically "wild", they're feral. While they aren't accustomed to people and I know horse auctions aren't good for ethics, but these horses can do real damage to American (continent) ecosystems especially our quickly disappearing grasslands.

I have been fighting the BLM for years! Bless you people. I've donated through The National Wild Horse and Burrow Association by donateing my paintings for action or raffle. I'm on SS it's the best I could. They got a couple of thousand. I'm proud of that. Totally against the round up. Greedy Ranchers! Again love your work!

Such beautiful horses. So happy that you and your husband got to rescue them. Lovely video! I have a lovely cat that adopted me last year. His name is Stormy and I believe he is a Russian Blue! My grandkids also love him. I let him in the house but he prefers to be outside. In the winter I construct a warm cozy cave to sleep in. From a grandmother in the state of NJ, USA

Beautiful mustangs and story. Not a horsewoman myself, but I do appreciate and follow a few mustang adoption and equine rescue channels. While it's traumatic for them, they'll live a long and peaceful life w/you, and I'm sure they were relieved to be reunited. Thanks for adopting both and bringing them home together. 💕🐴🐴🍀☮️
