what sets Geoff apart from other bass singers, is not his range. there are quite a few bass singers out there who can go just as low, or lower. and just as high or higher. what sets him apart, is the tone of his voice in his entire range. he has such a full, rich, smooth and resonant tone. it truly sets him apart from others. and of course, he is also a truly gifted arranger, his arrangements are always so imaginative and always pay respect to the original while at the same time being completely his own.

Love your reactions. Geoff keeps improving his control. He has a fantastic voice and is a great arranger too. This song really showed off his range.

Geoff's arrangements are insane. But of course he does about half of VoiecPlay's too, Layne doing most of the rest. And the fact that he loves harmonising so much that he has to clone himelf to do it is just crazy. LOL.

It isn’t just his lows, it is the tone. I have always loved how smooth his voice is, but this time it was that breathy A1 (relying on the expertise of others on that note) that got to me. That “every time-ime-ime time she goes away” is just so gorgeous. And then he shatters everyone’s expectations with those plaintive cries while he’s in that kitchen hallway. He is one of the most unique singers that I’ve ever heard. And he does it all: he does the arrangement, he figures out how he’s going to have it filmed. He and his wife Kathy pretty much do it all on his one-man videos, but I understand that Layne Stein, the beatboxer from VoicePlay, and Tony Wakim, who used to be the baritone, also helped with the filming because they were in a time crunch. But they kept it all in the family so that’s good.

The 'haunted mansion' was a historical house in Florida called, ironically, La Casa Feliz ('the happy house'). I joked they had to rename it the Casa Infeliz (the UNhappy house) after Geoff finished filming there.

It's not just the range and control of Geoff's voice that is so amazing, but the fact that whether he's climbing up into his tenor range or plumbing the depths of his abyssal bass, his tone is still round and resonant and his diction remains clear. In my eyes, Geoff is one of the very best vocalists recording currently, and yet he's still largely unknown. Seems like a crime, honestly. And come Christmastime, you should *definitely* put Geoff's version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen on the agenda to view. He transforms that carol into something powerful and dark and joyous, all at the same time. It's an absolutely incredible experience. Also props to Katie for being adorable and knowledgeable, and I love the Cowboy Bebop shirt! Are there any links available for her music?

First time I ever heard Geoff was on a Bass Battle video with Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust. While they all sounded good, similar range and control, it was the glorious rich tone of Geoffs voice that immediately made me find out who he was and I've been obsessed ever since! His arrangements are innovative, the harmonies are wonderful and his voice is just gorgeous (so is he)! Great reaction, thank you both! 🙂👍

You two always make me laugh! Thanks for that! And absolutely loved both of your reactions - so much fun to watch (since we were all there the first time we heard it.) Probably the song that best shows his upper range is still Blackbird (Beatles). Personally, Geoff's bari-tenor is my favorite, I could listen to that all day long. 16 Tons is classic (but new), Shenandoah is gorgeous, on and on and on. Meanwhile - if you want to go back to funny - VP's Little Mermaid medley is classic, and shows off Layne's marvelously goofy side, and their Boy Bands in 5 minutes is funny too, a bit on the slapstick side. But whatever grabs your attention will be good....

first off you two...thanks for the great (and thoroughly entertaining ) reaction to this outstanding rendition of "aint no sunshine" sung by the one and only Jeff Castellucci!!......i always enjoy the banter and chemistry that you two display in all of your vids!!........and yes....i agree....in thinking that i was or ever could be any kind of bass singer compared to the incomparible Mr Castellucci.....i may as well have take basket weaving or something lol!! He makes bass singing seem so effortless that it not even funny!! lol!

If you really want to hear his range, try his video for High and Dry. He says that’s his favorite. Not acapella, just him and his piano. And just a heads up - Friday VoicePlay premiers a new song. And their featured artist is AleXa! Patrons only got a rough draft that Layne was still editing. But I know it’s going to be so good!

Loved your reactions to my very favorite singer! Aside from his glorious voice, the fact that everything he does is Arranged, Produced, Filmed, Performed, and Edited by Geoff Castellucci is amazing. He and his wife Kathy usually do the camera work, but he did have someone come in with a steadicam, and had help with direction from Pattycake Productions, owned by Layne Stein (VP beatboxer) and Tony Wakim (former VP baritone). It isn't that he can sing low or high, it is the richness of his tone. Thanx again! Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci!

I actually have a much lower and higher range than Geoff... now, if I could just be able to sing the way he does would be nice. It's not all about his low notes, for me; it's the way he can utilize his entire range and it's just so good. Lots of singers have wider ranges than Geoff... he is still, by far, my favorite vocalist.

I’d love it if you guys would check out Dimash. I highly recommend the 2017 version of SOS (there are more recent versions, but that’s the one that put him on the map, PLUS more recent versions, you may need to obscure the video, as he now works with a production company that is pretty stinky about copyright).
