There _was_ a horrific avalanche in Longyearbyen in December 2015, which tragically killed two people (a man and a little girl). Other than that, accidents do happen, yes, but mostly with people travelling out in the wilderness. And even then, people don't "die all the time".

I mean, noone will be punished for dying, but you can't be buried there because of permafrost. And people are not allowed to live there unless they work. So if you retire you have to move back to mainland Norway.

Unless we are drunk, or "dritings" as the norwegian term goes. But thats kind of a nordic thing, it's the same in Finland and most of Sweden. It's a little bit different in Denmark, but then again, they are drunk most of the time. Iceland I don't know, they are few and far between.

I actually have a friend from Norway, and he moved to the U.S. and it wasn’t a few weeks ago, that I met him again for the first time in like 3 years, because the last time we saw each other we would just play Halo together all the time. And I’ve been talking to him since. Norway went from Vikings, to really nice and calm people.

I’m from Minnesota and I am so proud of my Norwegian ancestry. I love Norway so much! I bore people to death with all the information that I know about the country and/or the Viking Age. Fun Fact: I met the Princess of Norway, Märtha Louise when I was a little boy during her book tour; met her in Minneapolis, MN. Also, I was a finalist to be a cast member on the “Alt for Norge” tv show for Season 9. It didn’t work out because I’m in college and it’s hard to schedule around that... but who knows... Two other small corrections: 15:30 The constitution was signed before the Swedish union began. However, the swedes let us keep it. 18:30 Spoken Swedish is closer to spoken Norwegian. Written Danish is closer to written Norwegian, as it resembles old Norwegian in many ways. At least in "Bokmål" which is the most used written language. Overall a really well made video. When Blücher got blown up, the germans retited out of Oslo fjord and got to shore in Son( the place i live), the commendered all cars and truck so they could get to Oslo. Another funfact about my hometime. When Oslo was called Christiania, Son was a important loadingplace for iceblocks for the Dutch ships, so important that they called Oslofjorden, Soen Waters (Dutch name for Son at the time) or Son waters.

Yeah, but no. If the terrain has been man-made (like a large garden, field, pasture or park) then it is private and you can be chased away. But the owner of a forest can not chase you away for simply camping in their forrest. Also you can stay for 2 days without asking.

Amici Nybråten you have the right to roam, not the right to drive. Either if it is a farm far up a road, an industrial area or a cabin in the woods. Private roads are private and can be locked of. In some cases there are "the right to a road" when a road must go through anoter property to connect to the public road. But that is realestate/property law, not hikers and bikerd law.

I guess it is starting to become a myth. There is a substantial portion of the population that is much outdoors. But I guess it is exaggerated. Maybe for 30 to 40 years ago I guess it had been more right. But less so in 2019. Many people are not skiing, and also doesn't do much walks in the mountains.

I'm very impressed! This was the best researched, accurate, and concise summary of my home country I have ever seen. The only thing dear to me, that I wish you had mentioned, was the fact that we do have a small area of very rare boreal rainforest - it may help us in preserving it. I'm now going to watch the rest of your recordings. If you have treated them with the same attention as this one about Norway, and I think you have, it will be a blast :) Thanks!

Also interested in knowing more about the boreal rainforest. Please research Diana Beresford Kroeger, who is an expert on trees, speak of the value that the boreal forest provides to the planet, truly humbling to learn.

@@ThePowderskier9 Hi Mark. The boreal rainforest is found in the middle of Norway from just south of the Trondheim fjord to Rana in Nordland. It is dominated by Norway spruce. There is another area on the west coast where various types of deciduous trees are dominating.

As a native Norwegian I'm REALLY impressed of how correct all the information in this video is! When foreigners make videos like this one, there is normally a lot of minor mistakes or misunderstandings, but this video has none. I give it ten points!

Yes, it was remarkably correct. I only spotted two very minor mistakes: Longyearbyen is of course not "on" the Arctic Circle; it is far north of the Arctic Circle. And there are around 17 people living on Jan Mayen.

Btw we do NOT use mayo on our tacos 😂 it’s sour cream, and it’s delicious! Norwegian mayo is yellow 😊
