I'm Australian and I love this video! I even learned things I didn't already know about my own country and that's just awesome! Also, that last part about Americans loving our accent is weirdly true. I was gaming online with roughly 11 Americans and once I started joining in on the conversation and actually speaking (I was quietly listening for the first few minutes because I get shy when gaming with strangers online), what felt at the time like the entire party became bizarrely excited. I was absolutely stunned. They asked me to say a bunch of different words and just loved me - I was only too happy to indulge them too. It was one of the nicest receptions I've ever received from a group of people I'd just met. To every happy lovely person out there: if ye be American or anybody else, I'll love you back if you want to love me at all. You're all beautiful and I wish you a great day!

I had a holiday in the old West Germany in 1974 and found the local people welcoming and very hospitable Back then as English is my language we would often be asked if we were English or American. We would explain we were Australian as many other country's had not heard an Australian accent. Interestingly, we were treated differently and I suspect much more warmly than the British or Americans. The Germany I experienced was a neat, clean and beautiful country where as Britian was considered the garbage dump of Europe due to its litter and pollution of the day. I live in Adelaide and the town of Handorf is close by. Many Germans settled their over 100 years ago and Handorf is renowned for its wines, German pubs/cuisine/bakery's etc. A beautiful place inspired by Germans.😁😎👍

I feel like us Aussies are also known for our laid back attitudes and dry sense of humour. We pride ourselves on being easy going and not taking things too seriously, as I see it. Could also mention Australia's impressive performances in the Olympics considering our small population, especially in swimming, and also our many famous and accomplished actors. But I guess these early episodes weren't quite as thorough.

Honestly, I’ve always felt kind of ambiguous about Australia: It definitely has things that I want to see, both nature-wise and culture-wise, but the expense and logistics of actually getting there, plus staying long enough to actually enjoy everything - or at least most of what- I want to see makes me wonder if it would even be worth it. New Zealand is in a similar vein, but I’d be slightly more motivated to indulge my inner geek and splurge for a tour that visits all of The Lord of the Rings filming sites.

Hm as an Australian I would say the main appeal of Australia is how scarcely populated it is, and beaches/ nature ( so great if you like to do caravaning/camping). New Zealand is awesome though.a lot smaller and my favourite is the natural hot springs you can just access for free in public areas.

The reason Australia doesn't have a lot of black people is because we didn't import slaves from Africa, unlike Europe and America. We also currently have mass immigration from the Sudan, so the African-Australian population is growing.

OntreMuzik That's the problem, there isn't. Remember they were subject to extermination for centuries after white people arrived, so their numbers are extremely low, and you won't find too many, if any full blood Aboriginal people these days...as we tried to destroy them, and their culture.

bitterman co I'm from Vic and we have a considerable aboriginal population in the Yarra Valley district, as there was a prominent mission there in the 19th and early 20th centuries; Coranderrk. However, I guess due to the colder climate there are less Aboriginal people in Vic than in the warmer parts of Australia...which makes sense I guess. We definitely have a prominent Aboriginal presence though (Aunty Di Murphy does the 'welcome to country' at major events, including the AFL indigenous round).

+LJY08 My understanding of australia Too many white people in a tropical area belonging to browns/blacks .Dont worry white aussies will become black in 28 generations the time taken by human s to change their skin melanin content to suit UV ray absorbtion. Also time for them to make way for the burgeoning populations of china and india

I was thinking the same thing. I think this would be handled a lot differently today (maybe with less of a colonizer’s perspective regarding who actually “discovered” Australia? Among other improvements that came as the channel grew & evolved.) I would definitely like to see an update for this one.

Straight from Wikipedia mate: The only living organism in Lake Hillier is Dunaliella salina, the microorganism that causes the salt content in the lake to create a red dye, hence the colour. Another hypothesis is that the pink colour is due to red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts. Despite the unusual hue, the lake exhibits no known adverse effects upon humans.

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a sovereign country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. It is the largest country in Oceania and the world's sixth-largest country by total area. The population of 26 million is highly urbanised and heavily concentrated on the eastern seaboard. Australia's capital is Canberra, though its largest city is Sydney. The country's other major metropolitan areas are Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

It just makes sense to not be racist and call people things like that. We call them that bc they are from there. I had a friend who was Indian but was born and grew up in England. We all called her English but she was like no I'm Indian and we were all like no ur English.
@interestedinstuff1499
@interestedinstuff1499 5 жыл бұрын
Yup I'd agree with that. As an Aussie saying something as long winded as African American just doesn't happen. We'll call you whatever country you're from based on what you sound like usually. Racism exists here unfortunately, but I rarely see it towards any colour American. I guess because Americans here don't upset the cultural landscape in any way. The racism I see tends to be towards those we see as trying to change the Australian way of doing things.

I realise from your comment that I always thought of racism as something one does intentionally. A person might think a different race is inferior, and they think this consciously. I never thought about ways of doing things that are racist without it being intentional. I guess there could be cultural racism. Bit like someone saying 'I treat black people just as if they were normal'. It is a good point to raise. In general though I think that Australia isn't doing too bad. I do think the media is making it worse in a lot of cases. On one hand the media preach tolerance and acceptance etcetera, and on the other hand they tell stories specifically choosing one race as the target.
