Cambodia is one of my favorite countries! Such a lovely people. As a history buff, I can't help but be fascinated by the culture, whether it's the Khmer Empire from a 1000+ years back or the modern-day stuff. There's a lot of sadness in the stories, but also just a wonderful, vibrant culture. One of the top countries my wife and I have ever had the pleasure to visit.

You know people who visit Cambodia think that by visiting the Angkor temples they have seen or witness the great Khmer culture but this is not true. If one wants to witness the Khmer culture in true greatness they have to visit all the Khmer temples built across all of mainland South East Asia to get a sense of the scale and magnitude of what use to be Cambodia in the past.

Amazing video, so glad to see you talking about Cambodia even I am not from there but I learned it myself and tought it to students at my college. Todays Thailand, Laos and Vietnam all belonged to the Great Khmer Empire centuries ago. I love Thailand and Laos as well, the more I study about it the more I recognize how many cultural traditions all of the three countries share. Cambodia seems to be the first country heavily influeced by Indian art, music, dance, mythology, language and architecture. Legends says it that the name "Khmer" derives from the ancienct founders of Cambodia, Prince Kambu from an Indian kingdom called 'Kambuja' and Princess Mera, daughter of a powerful Naga-Dragon-King who ruled Cambodia when it was still a kingdom made of water. Prince Kambu had a dream in which the Hindu god Lord Shiva told him to go to far east where he should marry the daughter of a Naga-Dragon-King. He received blessings from Lord Shiva, starting his journey to the Naga-Kingdom where he met the beatiful Princess Mera. After their marriage the Naga King drunk all of the water until land appeared, offering it to his daughters new husband. Due to their names 'Kambu' and 'Mera' the people deriving from them called themselves 'Khmer'. It is probably one of many legends about the mystic origin of the great Khmer people. A fact though is that Cambodia has one of the youngest nations on earth. And they do their best to rediscover and preserve their amazing culture and make their country powerful as they are.
