Just absolutely wow that I can come watch videos and learn so much with which is only because you are interested in doing so, and so I am humbled

Mt. Amabilis is the W side of the lake and therefore Naches formation. It is the home of the popular Cabin Creek cross-country ski area. Every time I get to the top I think of Nick’s video of a couple of years ago also noting the Teanaway and Silver Creek. Now even more detail. Awesome.

You continue to amaze me on how you can just walk out on a dry lake bed and without script or production crew can produce 20 minutes of tight, flowing, conversational, informative content on-the-scene. Wow. One of your best field productions.

Seems like, the NA hits Siletzia 51 ma, makes cracks in the crust, eventually leads to Teanaway lava intrusions?! So fun to think what may have happened in 51 ma that eventually leads to the birth of Cascades... Thanks for the visuals, Nick, I enjoyed a lot!!😃✨💞💛

Exciting video Nick - I always am partial to the field trips that you take us on! This particular field trip made me think again about the Eocene volcanic evidence in Corbally Canyon in Douglas County, not too far from Burch Mountain as the crow flies, and the speculated association with the Teanaway. Thanks for always giving me something to think about and research!

For sure one of my favorites from you. Not just because of the content, but the presentation... it's as if we're hiking along with you, and learning together. I started this with lunch, and finished it with dinner's dessert. :) Bring on episode E!

Fantastic light Nick 👍. Description of what we’re looking at, the dates as shown and potential cause/source begins to make sense. And it all on your doorstep. God, I think I need to come live there…. Awesome country and lovely people. ❤❤ good to hear Liz feeling better & 🤞doing well.

Thank you, Nick. Fascinating stuff… as always. I’d like to commend and applaud your use of high definition HDR video. It really does add an extra visual dimension, makes the colours really “pop” on a sunny day and gives it an almost 3D-like quality. Although I live around 10 miles north of the Jurassic Coast, Dorset in 🇬🇧, I used to work for a company headquartered near Portland, OR and have spent many happy weekends driving through the Cascades, Columbia River valley and surrounds in company visit downtime. In that environment one cannot help but wonder how all those magnificent geological structures got there and how it all fits together. Thank you for all you do to educate us lesser mortals. 😊

Been going up Silver Creek since we were married 43 years ago. very nice wild flowers 3/4 way up to the hanging valley head. After all these years I dont know which rock type is at the out crop. a good goal for a family hike to test the waters. some late spring, early melt exposures to test the legs and much less effort than iron peak. take care from battery fully charged.

To know the geology of ones backyard where they live as intimately as you do would be simply wonderful. Thank you for sharing your geology of where you live with the rest of us. We can feel your energy when you are sharing which makes us just as in awe of where you are and a bit I think in love with Washington geology. :D

Nicely filmed, Nick. Question: I think the top of the Teanaway basalt in the video is near 3000 ft elevation. Do you or Jeff have an idea of the altitude of the eruption, i.e. was the Teanaway formation erupted closer to sea level? If so, was it just the general uplift that formed the Cascades that you are going to teach us this winter that caused these older lava flows to now live so high up?

It feels like there are not enough letters to cover the Cascades so these videos are great to fit in between 'official' letters. As a side, anyone else wonder what sort of earthquakes result from a subducting plate breaking? I'm sure it didn't happen all at once, but still (!!!).

@williamp235913 сағат бұрын
Why would a tear in a plate create lava? Doesn't most of the crust of North America sit directly on top of the upper mantle without volcanics being created? Is it because of the water released from the broken plate or is it something else?
