They sure are! Procedural modeling is incredibly useful. I don't do much traditional modeling anymore. I generally try to think of how I might do something in geometry nodes and then try do it that way, first. Because it's non-destructive I can go back and keep making more and more artistic decisions at any point down the line if something isn't quite how I wanted it. And, as shown here, it's basically a tool builder as well. I have a collection of node trees now that I bring into other projects for similar tasks.
@Totorus2 жыл бұрын
@@fakecubed Yeah that's great, but the only thing i see is that is a bit complicated, i saw the other day a procedural spider web that is super cool since you can draw a curve spline from point A to B and will generate the spider web, is amazing, but if i don't follow the steps, and i would want to try to make it myself, i don't think i can do it. Maybe i need to practice a lot and start to know well what they do but in deep. Greetings.
@fakecubed2 жыл бұрын
@@Totorus I learned by watching a lot of tutorials on all sorts of random things. Didn’t try to copy any of them, just learned how other people were using different nodes and getting ideas. Eventually I started to notice some patterns, specific combos of nodes doing the same sorts of things over and over in different contexts. I also do a lot of fooling around making weird motion graphics without much plan ahead of time, just seeing what I can do. Sometimes just plugging random noodles into random nodes results in something really interesting. I recently stumbled into a sort of spiderweb pattern myself, as it happens, while trying to do something completely unrelated.

the subdivision surface modifier doesnt do anything in my geo nodes tree, has anyone else experienced this issue?
@SamMorell2 жыл бұрын
Excellent tutorial/explanation as was the previous/intro one in your series! How do I differentiate between node sockets, or the menu categories, that indicate "Geometry" and those that indicate "Mesh"? Basically, what is the difference, technically, between a Mesh and a Geometry? Just now became a subscriber and look forward to the next one in your GeoNodes series.
@Entagma2 жыл бұрын
Geometry can output any geometry type, meshes, but also pointclouds, curves or instances. Mesh ports indicate that only polygonal meshes are supported by the node
@SamMorell2 жыл бұрын
@@Entagma Thank You! I think, as you beautifully explained in your first episode the concept of point lists vs poly lists, it's always helpful to fully understand and appreciate terminology (in my case geometry vs meshes) to avoid confusion. This ultimately explains the logic behind Geometry Nodes (for those who are so inclined to do so) and, thus, become more efficient as opposed to "let's try connecting this or that and see what happens." Again, Thank You!

Thank you that's very helpful. I wanna ask something though. What If I want to change one of the object's parameters without affecting the others that sharing the same node tree ? How can I do such a thing ?
@DanielPartzsch2 жыл бұрын
You need to propagate this parameter to the geometry input node by connecting it to an empty socket. This way this parameter gets exposed to the regular modifier stack and you can change it on a per modifier/object basis.

Yes. You can save node trees as assets to the asset browser by clicking on the node tree name e.g. in the geometry nodes modifier link field and selecting "mark as asset".
