This video was captured using the actual game on an actual Nintendo Wii.
It's really hard to believe that this game was not born in the arcade back in the 70's. Much like Shovel Knight, this game feels like it was made back in the day and wasn't released until 2007. Galaxies took the original Geometry Wars that was born on the original XBOX as a mini game inside Project Gotham Racing 2. What Galaxies added was more enemy types, an advanced score multiplier system, a drone by your side that has several modes to assist you in your assault, and galaxies with a handful of planets that challenge and punish you in new and exciting ways.
This game is crazy fun! All levels in this game passed a certain point become relentless so it is also pretty hard. However the game just oozes charm and the music is so good that it's hard to stay angry at this game for punishing you so hard. It's so exciting to mop up massive onslaughts enemies when you're right up against the border of the arena and hear the "gold" jingle letting you know that you've exceeded the expected score for that planet. The are times when you will be in utter chaos and say to yourself "I can't believe I'm winning." You have a constant risk vs. reward. In Galaxies it isn't just good enough to just destroy enemies. Every enemy drops what it called a "Geom" when they die. You collect the Geoms as both currency to unlock content in the game and most importantly to build your score multiplier. Collect up to 150 Geom fragments to multiply your score 150 times. If you get, you lose your multiplier and must build it up again. You also have a drone that helps you in many different ways and you can tell it what you want it to do before the level begins to suit your playing style. I like my drone to mirror me to provide me with twice the firepower. The drone starts off relatively weak and gains experience the more you play and becomes better. My drone in this capture is fully leveled up as an attacker.
The controls for this game could not be better. You have a choice to use the excellent Wiimote pointer and nunchuk controls which I am using in this capture, or you can use the classic controller with the good old twin stick configuration.
I love this game so much that I feel that I can't properly convey my thoughts in this description. Luckily I have uploaded a video so you can see how awesome this game is. This is one of the many underrated games that makes a Nintendo Wii worth owning.
Thanks for watching.
