Actually it is the singers who can hit that rediculous range like u hear in ACDC that are actually real singers. Rob Halford is one example. Rob is known for his high pitch streak, but Rob coulda been an opera singer. He was classically trained. Just listen to the 1st couple Judas priest albums. Same goes for Ronny Dio. Another one would be Ian Gillan from Deep Purple. He's most known for having a "metal" voice, but he was actually a trained classical tenor before he discovered rock & roll. Just KZbin 'Deep Purple Child in Time' to see how much of a true singer/tenor Ian Gillan was. Guys like Plant, Ozzy, Daultry, Jagger were actually not good singers. They were "vocalists". They were good vocalists, but not true singers. Gillan, Halford, Dio & yes even Johnson were both vocalists & also real singers/tenors.

Brian was born in 1947, and in 1980, when he took over for Bon Scott (who passed away), he was 33 years old. I have to tell you, sticking with a music career at age 33 takes immense courage. Ric Ocasek is another 'late bloomer.' When most of our crowd was coming up, once you hit 21 years old, you were 'old'. If you were 25yo, it was hard to be taken seriously. Rock music in that time (the 1980s) had some age discrimination of a kind. Our worst nightmares were playing gigs to 16 years olds when we were 30 year old men. So I have to hand it to Brian Johnson for ignoring the snide remarks he probably put up with. No one in our crowd lasted to age 30 - by then the vast majority of the bands in our area, the members, were in legitimate careers in order to earn a living and be able to afford raising a family. 33 years old! And he was just starting with AC/DC. Rock music, unlike jazz or country music (or classical), is acutely a young person's game. Someone like Brian or Ozzy or the guys in Aerosmith are rare exceptions. The reason is, it's quite challenging to earn a consistent living in rock music. If it's something you HAVE to do, then you'll have the courage to survive the challenge. Otherwise, you chicken out, and you go back to college and finish your computer science degree, work in software startups in Silicon Valley, and attain independent financial means at age 35. .

Most people listen to music instead of play. Those who've played & studied know that it's the vocalists who can hit that insane register as Brian can, are the ones who can actually sing. Bon Scott, Jagger, Ozzy, etc were just vocalists who weren't true singers. Whereas Dio, Halford, Ian Gillan & yes Brian, were actually true singers who primarily worked in bands not as the pure true singers they were, but as vocalists like the rest. So I'm not at all surprised to hear Brian in this register. Here's another fun fact: most of those "death metal" band vocalists who sound like they're possessed by a demon while simultaneously choking on a wishbone, are actually magnificent singers. Many are classically trained & could've been Opera singers. Rob Halford could have been an opera singer. Listen to the first few Judas Priest recordings. Rob sounds like opera singer Josh Groben on the ballads & low tempo sequences on those earliest records.

After listening to Highway to hell in 1979. Then 1980 Bon Scott had died, I had felt sorry for Brian Johnson when became lead Singer of Ac/Dc . But then when I heard back in Black AC-DC album I blow away by Brian Johnson voice. Brian Johnson is a Superb Siger.

Incredible side of Bryan Johnson we got to see so rarely... What an absolutely phenomenal singer this man was and still is! Wish we got to hear more from him when he's actually singing, cause he's got such a brilliant singing voice. And what a song as well.. absolutely brilliant!!

It's unbelieveable how much range this guy had during his life. I remember a quote under another Geordie vid, and I'm going to requote it, because it just nails it down. 'Brian Johnson is one of the best singers out there. Not just because of this performance, it's because of all of his performances!'

Lyrics: (keep in mind I'm writing this as I hear it) Goodbye Love (x2) I've been hard on the heels of heartbreak since I started out with you. Trying to patch up your world which was broken in 2. And all I ever got from my troubles, was rejection. That's why, trusting you was more than I could do. You're no good woman you took my money you said it was just too bad. You don't wash my clothes or call me honey, but I don't feel so sad. But baby, how can I lose, What I never had. Goodbye Love (x2) I meant every word I said, when I told you it's over. (Do you hear me) But you just had to steal and played it, your way. Well it's too late now for us to speak of changes. 'Cause we've been living together for more than 1 day. You're no good woman you took my money you said it was just too bad. You don't wash my clothes or call me honey, but I don't feel so sad. But tell me, maybe it's true. Still I say to you. Goodbye Love (x6)

Brian Johnson's band opened for Bon Scott in the 70s and Bon Scott said he has a great voice
@KevinWindsor19716 жыл бұрын
Bon Scott's band Fraternity actually toured the UK with Brian and Geordie in the early '70s. Bon would later tell the guys in AC/DC about Brian, and that's how he got an invite to try out with the band. Brian's first song he recorded with the band was "You Shook Me All Night Long". He thought he did such a bad job he was about to call his wife and tell her it wasn't going to work out. The band liked it, so the rest is history.

Listening to some of Geordie's other songs, Brian had a range of tones. Some Graham Bonnet, some John Fogerty, a bit of Robert Plant, and quite a lot of the sound we're used to in AC/DC.
