@@a.nobodys.nobody No. It is NOT “smooth Jazz”! I cannot believe we are having this conversation!! Benson is a million miles away from “smooth jazz”, the very fact that you think this, that illustrates that you know absolutely nothing about the genre. It seemed music was what most common people cared about and what defined them. Now there’s just ugliness with trump, Q’anon, social media and all that horrible hatred. Really sad
@Rational_Mind3 жыл бұрын
@Nada Nada If after what we’ve lived through the last 4 years under the trump presidency, culminating in the contemptible insurrection we witnessed on the 6th, isn’t enough to open your eyes to the fact that the Republican Party of today is nothing but a sycophantic, morally bankrupt, unscrupulous band of authoritarian, scoundrels who care absolutely about nothing other than power and control, nothing I can say will ever change your mind. The average citizen who supports trump has become a brainwashed cultist. The progressive democrats want nothing more than to create a more egalitarian society with more fairness and equity for all. Contrary to the BS the right spouts, this is not a “handout”, it’s not “free stuff”. It’s about leveling the playing field so everyone gets a fair shot at the “American dream”. Of course this type of society is anathema to the super-rich ultra-conservative power brokers because the common people would gain power. They wouldn’t be so worried about quitting a job with oppressive working conditions for fear of loosing their Heath insurance or their home. The rich can’t have that of course because then they’d lose power over the commoner. So they buy Republican politicians, finance rightwing think-tanks and sponsor propaganda news media to figure out ways to manipulate and fire up the conservative base to make them hate the very people who want to help them. It’s a massive mind fuck, and it’s sad and pathetic that the very people who are being used (useful idiots) are so blinded by hate and/or supremacy and/or conspiratorial thinking they can’t see what the SOB super rich are doing to them.

I remember spending about 6 months learning his rendition of "Masquerade" back in the 70s. The notes were all there but still wasn't even close. Nevermind that he also has a wonderful singing voice and I sound like Johnny Cash after a bad night.

Indeed. You have to stand back from the stage for your own safety while he takes this into space.

Just beautiful! It is hypnotic. You could hear Wes Montgomery's influence in his playing. Love that sultry sax playing of Sadao Watanabe. He has that old school smoothness, of all the great alto sax players that came before him.

Hey only version that I have ever heard that even comes close to comparing to the original on The Dave Brubeck Quartet's album Timeout. What a great interpretation George Benson is superb and the saxophone solo is fantastic. I will listen to this over and over again.

George Benson runs are ridiculous.Benson and Pat Martino my favorite jazz guitarist

Yes, his runs are so phenomenal it's almost like they transcend technique itself. It's magic. I love him and Martino is superb as well.

Saw this live in Montreux. Didn't quite know for a few days if I was going to take it as motivation to prctice harder or to quit playing all together.
