You can tell here, that Best game was still "raw". Misplaced ambitious passes & running into cul de sac's from attempting multi-layered dribbles. He was 18 here. Pelé & Maradona at 18, were already. Polished, world class brutal player's. Best became world class brutal, around 20, 21, years old.

Tavy@ yes john pacino you can see here hes got the skill he just needs a bit more direction in his passing, its his passing he really has to work on becouse in a tough fast game it isnt as easy as it looks. I believe george prefferd to take the risk of a bad pass when he had nothing else on, or he would dribble into danger alot and rather than let some one take it off him he would just pass it away? To anybody, becouse it can look as if a man utd player should of been there, instead george just got rid it, in short! I know know what the sports writer hugh mcilvanney meant when he didnt put george in hes top 5 best players of all time. He said "george didnt have that wider aspect of the game that the great players have, he was more of a destroyer of defences, a one man maroder that would try and beat a whole defence in one movement"

@@alanmctavish4802 Yes that's correct. Hugh Mcilvanney assessment is also somthing I've noticed as well. It's quite evident in the European Cup Final against Benfica, when many a times, Best failed to play in a better placed player & ran up into cul de sacs... Pelé, Di Stéfano, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Maradona, Messi, had that wider peripheral aspect of the game, Hugh Mcilvanney was alluding too. They'd weigh up the best options like grease lightening. They didn't mind poppin' it off quickly, to better place teammate's, even if it mean't, they'd have to compromise their personal skill set's. The team came first.

Misplaced 80% of his passes. He would be slaughtered in todays game. Won most of his tackles mind.

I think it was a very different game sanctified57. The emphasis was to get the ball up field as quickly as possible back in the day. If you misplaced a pass your team would soon win it back. As bobby charlton has pointed out any dilly dallying with possession football and 60/70/80s crowds wouldnt have tolerated it.

Sanctified 57, how who would slaughter george best in todays game with pansy over paid players am pml. And hes still only age 18 here. By age 21 to 25 fifa or the english football assosation would have to change alot of the rules becouse no one would go near george to be made to look a clown and alot of his games would be a bit boring becouse no one with george in top form and being kicked about every time he got the ball. The game then becomes boring becouse todays game is so much easier. George would end up playing left back for the last 20 minutes, wich he did in 1970 when he scored six against northampton town becouse he said i could have scored 8 or 9 but it was becoming embarresing so i went into defence. Now you wouldnt see any player do that today, even after there 5th goal they run round the park 3 times and dance with the corner flag or punsh it. And a few have hurted there hand doing that. What a load of pricks. Get educated mate on how the greatest player ever could play on anything, potatoe field mud swamp parks, thats what best played on. So on a grass carpet park with a lighter ball and dont forgett thats what he would grow up playing on and then the big stage he would run riot and then some. He did things that referees didnt even know if it was ok or not lol thats why he got sent off for telling referees they were useless and knew nothing about rules, he was right.
