While technically not whiskey, the mad scientists at Dickel have created a liquor infused with an essential oil made from Tabasco and aged in the same barrels. Big thanks to Kenneth Brown for the bottle. Cheers ya M.B.!

I actually like this stuff. Tobasco is aged in bourbon barrels. While I like it, I would like to see a higher proof (true whiskey) without the pepper infusion. Just aged whiskey in used tobasco barrels.

For the sweetness. Not surprised, peppers have quite a bit of sugars in them. With the hot peppers the sugars are masked by the spice. In growing and then making hot sauce I cook the sauce in alpha and beta amylase to break down the long starch chains into simple sugars and break down and smooth the texture.
@mrplow38742 жыл бұрын
That’s extremely interesting. Couple questions, if I may? Is this your original idea or have others done it? Do you know the approximate ratio of simple sugars to starches within the peppers, before the amylase application?
@h5c8h2 жыл бұрын
Tried this at the distillery in Tennessee on my way back from Kentucky (and all the distillery tours there). They add pure cane sugar to the whiskey after distillation to add the sweetness. Not bad, but definitely a novelty "whiskey"; might be good for Dead Turtle Shots.

I bought this 3 yrs ago, and really like it neat, but only when I eat Mexican food. I am an Army Vet and consumed large quantities of Tabasco on my C rations in the early 1980s, so this liqueur works for me!

I tried this on the distillery tour when it was released. Everyone on the tour who was a whiskey fan hated it. A couple of ladies who were there because their significant other dragged them along were the only people at that session who liked it. Neither of them liked whiskey and they didn't like any of the other expressions; just the tobasco finish.
@buttersonvuddlast66402 жыл бұрын
Well george dickle Tennessee whiskey sucks theres no reason to charcoal filter whiskey it takes 99% of what makes whiskey whiskey. Put vodka in a barrel boom you get Tennessee whiskey. No hate just saying. Kentucky bourbon delicious top of the bourbon class. Its comparable to blended scotch and single malt scotch almost, being single malt meaning only barley and pot distilled ya know. Theres a couple nice blended scotches but none compare to single malt scotches imo. Not to be a snob i like bourbon and tabasco what makes Tennessee whiskey Tennessee whiskey kinda bothers me. Just buy vodka if you dont like flavor is all. Im sippin some makers mark cask strength and cheers to you bud just needed to say it to someone. Tennessee is to whiskey is what Canada is to the USA. Pitiful and close by.

I've had this one on the shelves for a couple of years now, I grabbed it as soon as it was released because I'm a huge whiskey fan and Tabasco fan, among other hot sauces. Whiskey bottles don't last long in my house. The ones that hang around are either special or terrible, and this was one of the few in the 2nd category. My least favorite part was the sweetness. Anyways, I poured a glass to sip along with this video (why not) and either the bottle's changed or my tastes have but I was surprised to mildly enjoy it now. Not sure if I'll continue to sip this one but I'm curious to find a cocktail to make this a part of

Okay, okay, okay. So this was snuck in by Diageo while they were in between head distillers. It’s not for everyone but it has tons of uses. Here’s a fun recipe….2oz Dickel Tabasco, .75-1oz fresh lemon Juice, .5oz of Tamarind Syrup, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Shake, serve on rocks in a glass with a Tajin rim and a half orange moon to garnish. I call it the Ankle Biter 😘

for me, most recognisable component of tabasco is the vinegar bite, and wouldn't appreciate that in any drink... and I disagree on the "capsaicin bite in the throat". Might be very individual, but for me most of the hot peppers attack tongue and lips, it's alcohol, vinegar, black pepper on the throat... enough question marks to give that stuff a try I think... have to see whether it's avaialable over here...

The bigger problem I've noticed with flavoring any whiskey, is that it needs to taste well with the flavor whiskey already has. For example, vodka you can basically flavor with anything at all because it just tastes like alcohol. You can make blueberry vodka, jalapeno vodka, hell you can make cake flavored vodka and it's basically alcoholic cake flavored. The problem with flavoring whiskey is it's whiskey AND, it's not like you can put anything at all because it still tastes like whiskey. You need caramel whiskey, or vanilla whiskey, or a peanut butter whiskey, you can't just be like okay let's try strawberry flavored whiskey, or cake flavored whiskey because it would be absolutely atrocious, it would be awful. The problem with this is that Tabasco doesn't fit the flavor profile whiskey already has, so it's just not going to work. It's going to taste like you put hot sauce in your glass of whiskey, and I don't think anybody wanted that.
