The Dickel 8 year old bourbon and not the Dickel #8 Tennessee whisky. Dickel is making it a little confusing the way they're throwing 8s around.

Haven't been disappointed with any Dickel product yet. Their rye is my favorite. I also love wild turkey, michters and most 4 roses. Their small batch is 🔥. Not so small tho 😂

I feel like that dill note that Rex is remembering is from the George Dickel Rye. Which oddly enough is just MGP rye that has been chill filtered, and it completely changes it compared to Bullit Rye.

I need to get a bottle of Dickel No. 12 again. I liked it the one time I had it, but I've been so busy with new stuff and stuff I love, on a small budget, that I've not gone back. But this bottle was the first time I ever detected a nutty note in whisky - pecans in the finish. 🙂

I've been drinking Dickel No. 12 for 20 plus years and I don't think you can beat it. I've got a bar full of good bourbons but on Friday night after a long week, white label is the bottle I grab. I drink it neat and I mix with a little Sprite,, depending on the mood, but I love it. I'm from east Tennessee so maybe it's a Tennessee thing.

Speaking of cloudiness, I once left a bottle of wine in my car on a warm day for several hours and it got super cloudy inside. I thought it was bacteria or something and threw it away. But I’ve also put whiskey (80 proof) in a 2 liter barrel and aged it for 8 more months. And it got cloudy and had a musty smell. Can gross things actually grow in whiskey?
@elitebirds Жыл бұрын
Long time viewer and ex Chem major here. There isn’t going to be like a bacterial biofilm that grows in whiskey ,because the proof is too high, but there could be other weird/cool reactions happening between the wood and the chemicals in the whiskey.

The Dickel note has been noticed by a lot of us out there, it makes me think of fruity pebbles too.. On an unrelated note... I remember opening up the Flinstones vitamins and eating them like candy as a kid. My mom was not happy when she caught me doing that.

If I remember right, they were basically on the way out - closing, then the whole bourbon explosion happened like 6 - 8 years ago. So they then re-started production so they are essentially catching up with production still. Getting the back stock. - true aged 12-year whiskey as they sold before. (I think)

It's really good whiskey. Very happy with it.

If there's one thing the SWA (Scotch Whisky Association) does right regarding regulations, it is that if you put a big number on the label it can ONLY be an age statement.

I enjoy Dickle I was in the service with a guy who's dad worked there and he gave me some of the secrets. This was back in the late seventies. And yes the number isn't a bad statement. I like this over Jack however they could up the ABV. I have always enjoyed higher %.

Have you guys tried Aerstone? It’s a single malt scotch where the batch is the same but then they age half seaside and the other half on land. It’s cool to see the difference in each bottle knowing they came from the same batch. Also it was $26 per bottle when I found it too.

I've been enjoying Dickel 12 since our trip to the distillery 5 years ago. The proof holds up to a rock and the flavor is smooth and sweet with it's high corn mash bill. Also, the price is around $25 which is in my range because I choose to drink it every day. I enjoy all Tennessee whiskies and Kentucky bourbons too. Thanks for reviewing Dickel 12, it was interesting.

If you were to add rice (or other intact grains) to an unaged whiskey, would it be similar to charcoal filtering? Would there be any noticeable difference? What about an aged whiskey?

G Dickel is not a bad buy here in AU as it is sold in the USA bottle (750ml not our standard 700ml) and of course the proof is still the same (45%abv ) whereas most mid price Bourbon like Buffalo Trace is reduced to 40% abv I do not know how or why they do this but it bugs me. Btw I like this sweet bourbon.

@clumsyoctopus5614 Жыл бұрын
Maker's actually just redesigned their label for the 46 recently specifically because they noted that the 46 was misleading on the old label. The new label has a very prominent "No. 46" rather than just the "46" from the old label. Dickel should take a page out of Maker's book on their #12.

I DESPIZE Dickel….however, they do offer an 8 year BOURBON that’s pretty damn good, costs around $35 (here) and DOES NOT have that disgusting mineralogy Flintstone’s Vitamin flavor.
