For people curious about the stats: Search "Washington Post 20XX Police Shootings Database" (Replace XX with whatever year). When you get to the site it lets you search by modifier, select "Black" and "Unarmed" and you'll get the numbers I spoke of. It's one of those things where you only get 3 free article reads, so I didn't get to see 2018's stats cuz I visited 2017 twice lolz.

the point is that cops are never held accountable. there are alot of cop shootings that never get justice. for example the unarmed black guy shot in georgia, the shooter was not charged until people protested. also its not just about killing its about general police abuse. its like domestic violence. sure most wife beaters dont kill and only some die, its the general abuse that is the larger problem. best example, furgeson.
@dariuspenner25284 жыл бұрын
The shooting of Michael Brown is easily the worst example. There were conflicting witness testimonies where some said that Michael Brown was shot from behind with his hands in the air whereas others, including the officer who shot him, said that Brown charged at the officer which resulted in him getting shot. Later forensic evidence and an autopsy later verified the officer’s testimony, which means the whole “hands up, don’t shoot” slogan is predicated on a lie. The people who gave the testimonies that said that Brown was shot from behind with his hands in the air either didn’t even see what happened or willfully lied to try and drag the cop through the mud.

As an African American, this has got to be the most informative, honest, and straight up damn intelligent take on this issue and I’m glad you included the statistics because it shows the race war incitement and the fear mongering of the media. And I say fear mongering because there are African Americans that I know who are terrified. What irritates me the most is the fact that a lot of my “wannabe woke” old classmates live in that utopian thought process. Mind you, the same people who will research everything else will not look up a statistic, just post the videos and block anyone with an intelligent and realistic outlook. So thank you for being a voice of reason. You’re right, emotionally this is a big issue, but it was bigger numerically in 2017 with much less outcry. More over, I feel a lot of this is influenced by the Ahmaud Aubrey shooting in Georgia. While it happened in February, the video and story on him was released recently and George Floyd’s death triggered an already emotional race of people. Also, burning shit to the ground and stealing stuff has got to be the dumbest damn response to this because what the actual fuck will that change and/or do to stop it from happening the future?
@veraseb4 жыл бұрын
I feel, and honestly I really don't have a place to even try to explain this to a black person but this is just how I view it, the rioting response is more of a consequence for the city. Like "it took you this long to arrest the cop despite video evidence and this guy initially got placed on paid leave instead. If the reaction to someone's death vis cop by the city is paid leave, then the city needs to understand the people aren't going to sit idly by and take that kind of treatment from.the cops or the city." That's just my take tho
@justbri6144 жыл бұрын
Sebastian Vera that’s a fair take and an accurate one but I guess I’ve more so been looking at the bigger picture in terms of how to try and stop it in the future. Rioting is the emotional response, but at what point does the smart response in trying to figure out how to stop keep it from happening kick in? Unfortunately, this is the cycle my people tend to be stuck in: death by cop, outrage over it, share posts on social media, state their opinion, argue with anyone who disagrees, support the emotional response ie rioting, share the petitions, yell about us needing to come together to make a change, and then few days to a week or so later, it’s back to business as usual only now they share the never forget posts that ultimately float around. I guess I said all this to say is that if the black community truly cared about changing the issue, instead of rioting and SAYING we need to come together to change the future, ACTUALLY fucking come together to change the future. Sure there are certain ones, civil rights leaders, certain celebrities, generally people of some kind of notoriety that actually make mention of working with one or two groups that work towards the change, but if it truly is this huge heartbreaking deal that a lot of us making it out to be, why do I see rioting and others saying they’re going to do stupid shit like shoot back and not ‘I’m writing this Congress person’ or ‘I’m forming this group to do this’ or ‘I’m joining this group to do that’? Sure, some of us are policing the police, but that only goes so far. I guess I’d just rather see more people talk about plans and bring organizations to light that is helping to combat this than people looting and burning things down because again, material things can be replaced but a life can not and without real action for change, it can turn into another life lost. And then the cycle would repeat itself again.
@fatimaalshammari40374 жыл бұрын
Statistically speaking your right, this isn’t a large enough issue, but just think about the video the WAY that George Floyd was killed, it never should’ve happened and it’s not just the issue of racism think bout it generally, no human being should ever have to die like that especially over fake $20. And also the media is out look bad. Some propel are acting as if they’re protesting in order to loot places for their own gain, the fires as well. The cops started firing at the protestors w rubber bullets and tear gas and when they wanted to buy milk from the stores they would not sell them, so they had no choice but to steal. However I’m not supporting the looters that steal cuz they want to not cuz they need to.
@justbri6144 жыл бұрын
Fatima Al you’re right. NO ONE should have to die in that manner. My biggest issue is how the black community is handling it and no one (at least that I know of) has an actual plan. I’m just tired of everyone being outraged over something like this happening and then in a matter of time usually when emotions die down, it just becomes a “Never Forget” post and that’s about it until it happens again. Then the cycle repeats.

I'm from Germany and here we rarely hear news about people being shot, simply because it happens a lot less than compared to the US. That being said, I just looked up the numbers and even here we have around 8 people being shot by the police each year on average. No info on whether they were armed or not though. I guess you're completely right in that the actual number will never be 0, at least not consistently. But I guess the real tragic thing and the thing that riles people up so much is the fact that this man's death could have been so easily prevented. Every single death of an unarmed civilian could have been prevented if your police force were properly selected and trained. The selection process here in Germany is incredibly tough (physical fitness and general knowledge are being tested, there's a psychological evaluation and your grades from high school are also being considered). There's still quite a few rotten eggs, sure, the power corrupts people I guess, but I've never seen or heard of any cop as psycho as this motherfucker. And from what I can tell there's loads of cases in the US where ill-prepared cops handle situations completely wrong, to put it mildly.

Honestly, I think people should care. The police constantly get away with fatal mistakes, and people are sick of it. Police bullying, harassing, and taking advantage of the fact that they have “immunity” to “normal” citizens. The institution is broken, and the whole system needs to be changed.
@dreadknight24394 жыл бұрын
I feel like you’re right but the thing people are actually caring for (at least the majority) is for the fact a minority was shot down, not for the flaws in the system that allowed this to happen in the first place. A tragedy still, but that part is distracting people from the bigger issue at hand, which is a problem in of itself.

It's not just the thought the statistic should be zero. People are angry that when this happens, the officers, the murderers, get away with it again and again no matter who the victim is. The system's incredible flaws are apparent in its abuse of power -- look at the young lady pushed by that cop in New York. Her head hit the pavement and from what I hear, suffered a seizure. Even knowing that the world is messed up and senseless things happen, nine people dying this way is nine too many because it could have been prevented. Those statistics mean nothing when it happens to someone you know.

@David-es4pi4 жыл бұрын
It’s crazy as well because 9 unarmed black people killed by cops obviously isn’t good but you also can’t immediately assume that all 9 cases were both racist and unjustified. I believe in several of those cases, the suspect was in the process of physically assaulting the officer in question, or claimed to have a weapon.

It's, I think, misleading to say that racism from cops boils down to those killed by police. Killed by police is like the worst possible scenario, but other forms of discrimination perpetrated by police do exist. It is good that the killings have gone down, but that shouldn't be used as the barometer

As I have seen you do for years now, you willfully create impassioned videos based on complete ignorance and without a shred of research. Looking up one data source and looking at two data points in that one source isn't doing your research and it is not a trend line. If you would like, I can send dozens of articles to show you how systemic this issue is, based on race. Note: Just saw your episode 180, where you blatantly joke that after seeing all the actual data, state it is "Because rascism", and try arguing against that concept too. So you succeeded in dodging the fact that the information you provide in this video is inaccurate and ignorant. "How much should we all care, when cops kill someone." Now not only is this an odd moral truism that really doesn't say or answer anything, but it is also used as moral justification to contemplate and question why people should be so infuriated right now. A man was murdered in the street, and on camera, by police officers proven to have terrible histories as aggressive and dangerous men. The concept started for Floyd but became about systemic violence and death in general. To say the media is wholly responsible is also a dodge, I didn't hear it from the news, a friend showed me the video. You didn't hear about this because the media wanted you to, you heard about it because it is simply the video of a man being killed for ten minutes. When you speak the way you do, you sound so detached from people, reality and responsibility. You willfully create narratives in your head that you think are correct and create confirmation bias around them and don't even sum up the strength to provide sufficient data to back yourself up. You don't care about the truth man, you used the same tactic regarding climate change last year (EP 169). Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it isn't there. You should read more.
