George Formby was a singer and comedian who was famous for singing when I'm Cleaning Windows and leaning on a Lamppost. He entertained the troops during the Second World War and was one of England's biggest stars.

George Formby, OBE (born George Hoy Booth; 26 May 1904 - 6 March 1961) was an English actor, singer-songwriter and comedian who became known to a worldwide audience through his films of the 1930s and 1940s. On stage, screen and record he sang light, comical songs, usually playing the ukulele or banjolele, and became the United Kingdom's highest-paid entertainer.

Yes, it was before my time Crystal as well but he was enormous and so was his father but it shows you her when time passes the memory fades. That's why I'm trying to keep them going through the 😉

George Hoy Booth ,Formby actual name,and was biggest film star in Britain from 1939 to 45,a huge thanks has to go to the George Formby appreciation society,as they maintain the grave,as in the case of the great Will Hays,as so many kids from 60s and 70s we grew up watching Formby with grandparents,and I still think there still some of the greatest musical movies ever produced,great video🙂🙂🙂

I remember as a kid watching black and white tv i was transfixed by George Formby he was awesome and Norman Wisdom and Harold Lloyd they used too put them on tv loved it happy times. thanks for sharing.

Hi, Gill great to see you. George Formby and the big grave but his wife beryl only has the small ashes stone so l think you're being sarcastic which could agree to be true Beryl deserved much more She was the strength and drive behind his career but because he was the front he got all the glory but she's ridiculous as per usual. And then George found another woman a few weeks before. Oh, got the entire house and contents and sold a lot on auction including his unwashed underpants. What more can you say? Great to see you. The grave was cleaned and restored by the George Formby society some time passed. Beryl was cremated, she has a memorial some other place. A great memorial to his father, George Formby Snr. as a celebrity was a bigger star in his day to his son.

I had read senior was a big star but I didn't realise he was bigger than George junior. I guess senior would not have had the publicity of TV. I filmed Beryl's memorial plaque in Blackpool.
