George’s son was attending Brown University in Providence Rhode Island. On my way to work I stopped at a small shop there to get a coffee. When I walked in I noticed George sitting in a booth with another person. I wanted to go over and just thank him for all the years of great music I restrained myself respecting his privacy. On the way out our eyes locked he nodded and smiled. It’s a memory I will always cherish! George was a beautiful person and spirit. His guitar playing was brilliant never a wasted note. It was sad that he suffered so much in his last years from cancer and being attacked by a madman in his home. Love you so much Mr.Harrison thanks for that smile.

Well, perhaps George Harrison's guitar playing is underrated by those who DON'T play guitar. But for those of who do, his world music influences, taste, melody nd inventiveness provide the blueprint for eclectic playing. And there can be NO doubt that Harrison's slide guitar playing, ranging from supple, melodic, and haunting to snarling, snide, and stinging was, in the parlance of the day, DA SHEEYAT.

@eliolopez310710 жыл бұрын
John, I don't disagree with how you feel. But I do postulate that he continued to be and still is underrated. The reason I say this is; 1) As a professional guitar player I can tell you many of my colleagues don't rate him highly, because of his approach to the instrument, B) Some of the posts I've seen on youtube alluding to George not having much finger dexterity because he either used Eric a lot or didn't play those fiddly kind of solos, (he could, I have some examples. It was really a tonal and musical approach not a virtuoso mindset), and C) Keith Richards was chosen over George in the Rolling Stone Poll. With all respect due Keith, George could play circles around him.
@subg88587 жыл бұрын
He didn't even use Clapton that much. A few songs on ATMP, a few songs on Cloud 9, and a couple songs in between.
@eliolopez31077 жыл бұрын
subg88 True. They were good friends and George admired Clapton's tone. Technically speaking George was a much more advanced guitarist. His use of augmented and diminished scales as far back as the first albums displayed just how advanced a guitarist he was before he was even 21.

Common with the under rated b.s. guys. He wasn't flashy or flamboyant. The 2 shows where his only tour in 18 years. Enough peers have called George the best slide player. His sneak and sweet ability to play a chromatic slide run is a thing of beauty and her difficult. Give Marwar Blues a lessen. @trense139 жыл бұрын
Mysidian Bard it is
@mysidianbard58909 жыл бұрын
***** It can't be. Look at the riff he is hitting at 1:40. He is holding the slide straight across the E, B and G strings at the 12th fret and is producing an Am triad (A, C and E). To do that you have to tune the B string up a half step and the G string up a whole step. The only way you could pull that off in standard tuning and have all the notes resonate is by holding the slide diagonally, which is damn near impossible to do in tune.
@mysidianbard58909 жыл бұрын
***** Then afterwards at 1:50 he is hitting the open note on the G string and producing an A. Good luck explaining that in standard tuning.
@VinnyDrysdale9 жыл бұрын
Mysidian Bard OK, fine. I made what seems to be an incorrect assumption based on the fact the George did use standard tuning on a lot of his slide work. I have yet to sit down and confirm this, but your posts persuade me to think you are right.

@musicmanregina - we have to remember as well that George's era was just before the heavy bends era . He had to contend with the unwound G string makeing it hard to bend. It wasn't until string manufactureres started producing unwound 3rd string the same as E and B that electric guitarists started bending notes all over the neck. George was every bit a pioneer to Clapton and Page as Chuck Berry was to the Beatles and the Stones.
