He's very well spoken, I've noticed. A very talkative lad he is too. I find that quite funny considering he had a reputation as the quiet one. He just spoke at the right moments, :D.

@@moonbeamskies3346 lmfao. NONE of the Beatles were right wing. They loathed fascists, and in fact George and John were especially left wing. Your comment made me laugh though, because Republicans are typically the uneducated ones while a massive majority of college educated people are liberals. I'm not even political nor affiliated with either, but that is a fact that everyone knows.

I watched an interview where George explained he got sick and tired of all the stupid questions they were asked so he just decided not to answer anything that wasn’t an intelligent or interesting question. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t think it’s a matter of people not listening to him. Although, that said, he did have to navigate around the Lennon/McCartney dynamic which I’m sure was a tidal wave much of the time. But, you’re right, he definitely wasn’t quiet when he had something to say!

I think it was Ringo who said George wasn't quiet, he wouldn't shut up. George was very talkative and had a large social circle, you see it in the Scorcese documentary how many friends he had. I wouldn't say he was smarter than Paul and John, though. They were all smart. But John was not sensible. He had a warped mind, and the hard drugs didn't help.

Actually, because he (and Ringo) got single-digit slices of the Beatles cash pie, George selected out all of his tunes from the umbrella of Apple Co. and put them in Dark Horse. Then, when Paul suggested to Michael Jackson that he start buying catalogue, and MJ promptly turned around and bought Apple (which infuriated Paul, & which took years & a lot of cash to unwind),* George's tunes were safe. *o the irony...George originally pitched "Got My Mind Set On You" (a Rudy Clark song he had learned & loved as a teen) to the Beatles, but J&P wanted nothing to do with it. Dial ahead 18 years when the band is being inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame--George had, indeed, covered it, and he was the only Beatle with a #1 tune rockin' during the ceremony.

He had some common sense, and he actually bought his rights to his music in 1969 all the songs he wrote for the Beatles and it was very expensive but he owned them early. In terms of business sense decision to go along with John on Alken Klien was disastrous on many levels, finally his business partner, Obrien, I believe his name ripped him off terribly, so in business, he wasn’t as a smart and together as McCartney

Though it may have been broadcast in 1969, this interview was actually filmed in 1968- the sweater he's wearing looks like the one he wore in the then-recent 'Revolution' studio-performance that was shown on the David Frost Show. He mentions the May 1968 Lennon and McCartney trip to the States to promote Apple, so it's definitely the same year. In 1969, though at times clean-shaven, his hair was quite longer (not mop-like as it is here), starting from the Jan. 1969 'Get Back' filming through the spring of 1969 to the summer 1969 Abbey Road sessions where's sporting really long hair and a beard which would remain his standard look throughout 1970.

There was a brief time in early '68 where all the Beatles were clean-shaven and John's hair was still swooped to one side (though he had pronounced edges). I used to think those photos were from '66, when he first got his speces - but later learned it to be from late Winter/Spring of '68, during time of the Lady Madonna/Hey Bulldog promotional film. As for George, his looks radically changed every few weeks or months until he died.

They way he described this business idea, Apple, it seems to me like the perfect, ideal, business: one that provides great service to the community, in this case: artistic projects and the like, without being self-seeking or miserly. A truly altruistic company. The reason it fell apart was probably because people were just abusing the generosity it gave. This business would work, I believe, only in an ideal world.

+Maren Denison There are many examples of artists forming companies to try & cut out "the suits" and also to try & give back (not just to make money). Most of them fail. About the only one I can think of that didn't is Paul Newman's company (Newman's Own).

Well, the Beatles weren't business men, and they didn't have that much formal education among them. They had great intentions but didn't have the background to do what they would like to do. Also, there were extreme tensions among the 4 of them and they couldn't agree on much. People asking for money isn't that much of problem: you just say no. The fact is that they were out of their depth; more capable hands could make it work. There are plenty of examples of ethical business models that succeeded, but the ideals were accompanied by knowledge and experience.

It _was_ very naive of 'the boys' to do the Apple Corps thing when they had yet to clarify and consolidate where they were as a business. Their hearts were in the right place, sure. But George hit the nail on the head. Effectively they just threw money at beggars.

This has to be either in September of 1968 around the time of the "Hey Jude" promo film, or after that in November or December of '68 when he shaved off the "White Album" mustache. Maybe around the time he appeared on the "Smothers Brothers" show.

The interview likely took place in late October 1968 or early November of 1968 - while he was in LA producing Jackie Lomax. It was aired in 1969. I haven't been able to track down the exact date and CBC doesn't seem to know either

You have Copy / Paste down to a fine art. You use it so well. I've never in fact seen someone use Copy / Paste to the degree that you do. You're starting to become my hero. It's almost Genius the way that you Copy this bit from there, and then Paste it over here. How do you do it??? Have you got a book out or anything or some kind of instruction manual that we can read? Do you think one day that I could maybe copy and paste like you do?

George was my favorite, hands down. Imo, he was both the smartest person in the group, and the best person (Ringo seems like a nice guy, but he was never going to be the leader of the group). In a way, it was probably a shame that George was younger than John and Paul. Both musically and in terms of band leadership, the two older guys kept George from contributing as much as he could have.

People say things like harrison and macca were better musicians than Lennon. That maybe true but who cares. Lennon couldn't care less about technical musicianship. He was mainly concerned with the concept of the song, the message or the idea and to remove the musical bullshit to expose the heart and soul of the song. He conveyed raw emotion in his songs in a way that the others couldn't come close to pulling off because they were too concerned with being good musicians. "Mother", "love", "god", "julia" so many to choose the list is endless.

+steve conn That's a predictably glib statement coming from someone who hasn't got the first clue about the man. You really need to educate yourself. Listen to all of his work and actually listen to what he has to say in interviews before coming out with such drivel.

James Frostick I've read more books and seen more interviews from Lennon than you can count. A wife-beating, child-ignoring megalomaniac who acted as if he invented peace with his talentless wife, told us to imagine no possessions from his countryside mansion, then remained washed-up at the Dakota, bitching about Paul, Jagger, and Dylan still having careers before he was shot and turned into a saint. End of story.

+steve conn you clearly haven't read more books and seen more interviews than me. Most books about him have a far more balanced assessment of him than yours. If that is your honest appraisal of him based on the vast amount of information you have read you must be a real joy to be around. It really isn't end of story, it's more the limit of your intellect.

I also forgot to mention that George made a name for himself doing precisely what John and Paul failed to do -- producing films and finding talent. Look at what he did with Monty Python's films. He mortgaged his house and took a gamble ruining himself financially to produce Life of Brian. So he was't Eric Clapton. Big deal. He made penny of good things happen without needing to be in the limelight. (And could take the ego bashing of being Clapton's best friend!)

George may have been the only one to have his head squarely on his shoulders. You can't give people money just because they ask for it because they usually don't have a real plan. Funny that he mentions "people come knock on your door from dawn to dusk begging for money to get a break are usually the people who have no talent at all." Sounds precisely like Yoyo Ono. She came ah knockin' on Paul's door then went to John's begging for him to back her "avant-garde" bullshit. Boy, did she ever get what she wanted and then some...

+jj ww Yeah, problem is, all Yoyo lovers are absolutely blind to real, honest to goodness "truth" What George is talking about - people bumming money from the Beatles is PRECISELY what Ono did. She separated John from his pack, then barraged him with pleas to "give her money or she was going to commit suicide." I mean, how low can a human go? But some still insist on loving her. Most are 40 to 45 years old or younger and have no understanding of Yoyo's burn and pillage tactics. The woman is pure evil...
