George Harrison makes a surprise appearance on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour." Originally broadcast on November 17, 1968. Short but sweet - and incredibly sexy! :-D

People 50 years later who did not live thru this time in the 60's, have no idea what an event it was to see a Beatle on live TV, let alone meet one in person. They were worshiped like sun kings. When a new Beatles record came out, it was an immediate #1, and the radio stations would play the singles around the clock. This appearance on Nov 17 1968 was only a few days before the White Album was released on Nov 22, 1968.

George had a "coolness" that words really couldn't capture. From "Don't Bother Me" on Meet the Beatles..."I Need You" on Help, all the way to "Something" and everything in between. He got labeled over and over as the "quiet one", and only his friends and loved ones (and George) new the truth. What a brilliant spirit. A true hero, and so missed...

His album "All Things Must Pass" blew me away back in 1970! I couldn;t stop playing that album! All four sides were GREAT! and even today, it's still one of the greatest albums on this planet, in my eye, it's the best. Back in 1970 it was: *George Harrison:* _All Things Must Pass_ *John Lennon :* _Plastic Ono Band_ *Paul McCartney:* _McCartney_ I didn't buy Ringo's album. I wasn't into that type of music. (Sentimental Journey) But his album RINGO in 1973 truly was " *The Greatest* "

Oh yeh! When he put together that epic benifit show "The Concert for Bangladesh" back in 1971. A great show for a very important cause. To help the refugees in Bangladesh. George helped his friend Ravi Shankar. George had been deeply moved when Shankar had brought to his attention the plight of millions of starving refugees, in what was formerly East Pakistan, who were suffering the effects of the Bhola cyclone of 1970 and the “Liberation War” in their country. ❤✝✝

During this time when George made this guest appearance on The Smother Brothers show, he was in L.A. for about 6-7 weeks working on an album for a new Apple Records artist named Jackie Lomax. George was producing these sessions at the time. George would then spend the rest of 1968 in Woodstock, New York with Bob Dylan and The Band before flying back to England, and the start of the "Get Back/Let It Be" sessions in January, 1969.

And it was this get together with Dylan and The Band, where they told George how much they liked Ringo's song, Don't Pass Me Buy, off the recently released White Album. George said that song was 'their scene'. More country flavored, rustic tinged. I bet this endorsement made Ringo feel pretty good.

John was smacked out on Heroin with his mum, the homewrecker, he worshipped Yoko Ono! John had no material of any value. George tolerated John always criticising his new songs when he offered up crap like "Dig A Pony" and "Dig It"! All I can is I empathized with George. He should have stayed in Woodstock until the Spring!

ALL the great bands had a secret weapon: Led Zeppelin had John Paul Jones, The Rolling Stones had Charlie Watts, The Kinks had Dave Davies, Pink Floyd had Rick Wright and of course The Beatles had George Harrison. Also, he wrote the two best songs on the final Beatle's album Abbey Road - "Here Comes The Sun" and "Something."
@NotUrBiz9 жыл бұрын
And since they only allowed him to have two songs per album, when the beatles were finished, he had a double-album worth of material ready to go. Songs on that album that were turned down by the beatles included: My Sweet Lord, What is Life, Isn't It a Pity, and All Things Must Pass. It was number 1 on charts around the world. According to Colin Larkin, writing in the 2011 edition of his Encyclopedia of Popular Music, All Things Must Pass is "generally rated" as the best of all the former Beatles' solo albums. Not bad for the "quiet Beatle".

@larry saunders I was hoping someone would give a shout out to the brothers Smothers. Loved those guys and their show when I was growing up. They had a great comedy schtick together and always had great guests on their show. The video of Tommy on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where he comes out and does a great impersonation of Carson is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZjLqZljfbhpndE

In this clip, George was 24-years-old. A millionaire. And (arguably) in the best rock band ever. What a life!

I can’t explain why but whenever I see any of the Beatles, old footage I’ve seen a million times or things I’ve never seen, it feels like I’m watching video of my kids or my family.

Me too. They feel like home to me. And somehow, have always been familiar, even from the very first times I saw or heard them. I'm 43, so I'm not from the same time as them. It's some kind of magic(dream away..). I love them so much. They are my heart and soul💜

Both John & Paul were amazed at the talent of George Harrison even at age 14, he was an excellent guitar player & was asked to join their band,The Quarrymen even though he was so young.

I did that when I saw it in 1968, and I was 15. Now I'm 68 and I still smiled, but the tears also flowed. The soul of The Beatles.

You can see a lot of John Lennon's influence in George in this clip. This is also evidenced in the lyrics of "All Those Years Ago". For me George sums up who the Beatles were. John and Paul were working the extremes of the band's potential. Ringo was an original right form the start. George matured throughout the course of the Beatles' existence. His final contributions to the band on Abbey Road were that album's finest moments IMHO, and the manner he kicked off his solo career after that carried that momentum, and was the best tribute to the memory of the band that any of the solo members produced immediately after the break up. I know many people rate him highly, but I still think he is underrated.
