I am a disabled vet and I some of those guys portrayed in this song. I was even homeless myself for a period. It breaks my heart to see my brothers out on the street. I so wish I could give them all a place to go. Thank you Don for doing what you do.

King George can only this sing these heartbreak songs as he does because he lived/witnessed most of them. Thank you for this wonderful request and a heartfelt reaction! I had 2 brothers serve during the Vietnam war and neither were ever the same after they were there. Feel better please, Clifford and thank you for your service!

Don thank you so much for reacting to this. This song means a lot to me as I have experienced the pain it describes on both sides of my family. I wish that people would pause just for a second as they see an old homeless person on the street, even a young homeless person on the street. But for the Grace of God that could be you. I am not talking about the aggressive, you owe me types but I am talking about our vets. Just take a minute when you see them before you look down your nose in disgust, please. I have Great Uncles from the First World War buried somewhere in England, my Uncle fought World War 2 his entire life and could never talk about it. I lost cousins in Vietnam to suicide after they came home. As the song states these heroes came home to be spat on, the Government defunded the mental facilities and we as a Country abandoned them. They had nowhere to go, they did their duty, answered the call and came home to a country that wanted to forget and even worse hated them for political decisions that were out of these boys hands. This is still going on today even though we choose to ignore it, my little boy went to Afghanistan and came home a different and damaged person. Yes he was welcomed home, but when the parades were over he was forgotten, living a hell in his mind like most of us can never imagine. The one thing that my son and my Uncle have in common is that they are unable to talk about what they saw. They are home but not home, lost and struggling. Please use your judgement folks, if you see someone struggling please do not leap to judgement, often times they just need someone to say hello, or how are you. Would it kill any of us to offer them a cup of warm coffee or some spare change? Often you can tell by tattoo's that they are vets, they fought for us, so we could be free and many feel betrayed as society has turned their backs on them. To be clear I never served as I grew up at the right time to miss the draft by a year but I respect and admire those who gave their all for us, those who served protecting people they did not know and often times people who now look down on them. God Bless our Servicemen and all of our veterans. I pray that the day will come when our government and all of us will take care of those who sacrificed for us prior to sending billions of dollars to foreign Countries........... Thanks Don and all of my friends here!

Hi Don and Cliff my old friend. Great request and reaction. This song was for written by George and Bobby Braddock in 1998. Shows that George was still creating great music late in his career. Cliff, I too have been dealing with some issues lately but have been feeling better lately. I hope the same is true for you Cliff my old friend. Anyway great request and reaction. P.S. Cliff I recently acquired a French Press Coffee maker and have been using it lately rather than my percolator.---#UTRCM

@Cilfford Barnes I am very much enjoying my French Press. Interesting fact that while it is called a French Press it was invented in America by a Frenchman. Anyway I will be praying your procedure goes well. Also after reading your comments I have a couple of songs I will recommend to you by 2 of my favorite songwriters. "Hello in There" by John Prime and "Hero in Harlan" by Tom T. Hall. If you haven't heard either of these songs you suggest you check them out but beware of flying dust apart cles. Anyway the very best of luck with your procedure my friend---#UTRCM

The Starland Vocal Band did Afternoon Delight. I remember it from the mid 1970s. It's not about model rockets. I'm a fan of George Jones. This is a great song. Thanks for sharing this reaction video. Cheers! ✌️

George Jones can flat rip your heart out when he sings. I had tears in my eyes as I listened to this because I think the way we either completely ignored or actively mistreated our veterans as they came home from a war that they did not cause and did not want is shameful. My husband retired from the military and he served three tours in Vietnam. One of the things about him which makes me the proudest is his military career. When he died over 15 years ago, I had no problem getting rid of his truck and his tools and his books and eventually I was even able to get rid of most of his clothes. However, I still have his dress blues and I will NEVER get rid of those! Veterans were willing to go when they were called (during the "Asian War" the draft was still in place so this was not something they CHOSE to do) and they came home haunted by what they had seen and done and had idiots literally spit on them and call them names and many of them ended up so broken that the only thing they could do was make their home on the streets. SHAME ON US!

Spot on with this song, Don. I swear I thought for a moment while watching you that you were going to lose it. I was born in 1955 and witnessed the Vietnam era. The draft ended in 1973, the year I graduated from high school. Most of the guys I graduated with barely missed the draft! Thanks Don and Clifford!

Have you ever heard Carrie Carry Me by dr. Hook? It was also written for the homeless but it was written at a time when people didn't want to hear songs like that so they were grossly underrated. It is so many beautiful song Shell Stevens is amazing🎉😢 they just about killed me with one more year for Daddy's Little Girl❤😢 much like the song I can never make make it through it without crying😢. One more year for Daddy's Little Girl even Dennis I believe it's the one that sang it he can't get through without frying. I love dr. Hook but that song killed me.
