Disney has failed terribly with STAR WARS and has yet to recoup its investment in the purchase of Lucasfilm. Disney Lucasfilm should have respected and listened to the creator George Lucas.
Discussions relating to the possibility of The Walt Disney Company signing a distribution deal with Lucasfilm officially began in May 2011, after George Lucas's meeting with the then Disney CEO Bob Iger during the inauguration of the Star Tours - The Adventures Continue attraction.
Lucas told Iger he was considering retirement and planned to sell the company and the STAR WARS and Indiana Jones franchises.
On October 30, 2012, Disney announced a deal to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, with approximately half in cash and half in shares of Disney stock.

Money can be a factor for some of the decisions made but it's not the core reasoning for those making the movie. George lucas started purely with a vision but by the time Return of the Jedi came, he had some focus on the money aspects, which was primarily about toys. The prequels were the same with some focus on nostalgia milking instead of great story telling. When Disney took over, it become all about money and tripling down on the nostalgia milking. Even when they hire directors to make their art, Disney is breathing down their necks demanding they stick to the formula that they know works. This is why any Disney movie feels bland and like you're seeing the same thing over and over; it's designed for idiots.

I can see George really regrets his decision to sell Star Wars to people who I admit HAD a potential to make good movies but after fuck up after another I feel like I waste my energy for hoping some sort of redemption from Disney. I lost my interest for Star Wars when I watched dozens of solid criticism for Ep 7-9. Until one day I completed KOTOR 1 play through. KOTOR 1 seriously reignited my interest for Star Wars. Unfortunately it led to a pedestal of legacy so high that when he made the prequels, the team he hired were shit scared to say “no” to him, leading to the PT clusterfuck. However, seeing what followed from the sale, I would take the PT anyday compared to the Extended Trilogy fiasco. I am glad though that the demise of the ET has led to the Mandalorian series starting to bring the Star Wars IP back on track, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau et al bringing the passion back into Star Wars, long may it continue.

That's exactly what some p don't like about the prequels is that while yes it gave more depth to the sequals and the galaxy as a whole, it had mitoclorians in PM, some lack luster writing (GL isn't a good writer, he's a good world builder), and a meh ending. The Revenge of the sith ending could've been better bc the deleted scene where padmae had the knife shouldn't have been taken out.

He certainly nailed it with those first 3 movies! What a completely different, new, glorious experience it was watching those words scroll past, “A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away…”. Pure magic! We were instantly transported into a wondrous world the likes of which had never been seen before! My Dad even liked it so much that immediately after walking out of the theater he excitedly asked us (me, my brother, and a friend) if we wanted to see it again! Of course!! - so we turned around and went right back in for the next showing! Great memories…

It actually dives into issues we face today before it was “cool” to do so. Prequels specifically did this a lot. George wasn’t afraid to dive into political and ideological beliefs. Star Wars would show us racism, pandemics, corruption, economic hardships, cultural conflicts, horrors of war and the cold hard reality that more often than not it’s the bad guys who win. Disney avoid these like the plague and would rather have a friendly goofy adventure with lasers and friendship then having to take a risk and try something new. Where in the end love wins overall because it’s the right thing to do. George showed us that it’s not love that saves us but more often than not causes a great amount of pain and may just lead us down a path to our own worst nightmare.

While I will always have respect for Lucas for being the brainchild of my favorite series, I can't forgive him for leaving his creation in the dirt, permanently, to gather dust. Disney might make a lot of mistakes in their Star Wars films/shows, but you know what? At least they EXIST. Lucas made the far bigger mistake of giving up on Star Wars altogether after people endlessly criticized him for the prequels, which are suddenly not so bad anymore now that you all have new movies to shit on. How many of you cried and complained about Jar Jar Binks, the useless battle droids, Ani's love story, and the political side of Star Wars? Like saying piss is better than shit. It's on record the original movie was saved in editing and Irvin Kershner was the director of the best movie in the franchise. In the end it was 3 great movies about space adventure, the mistake was trying to recapture that with boring stories overloaded with special effects (prequel) and having no set in stone plan, terrible writing, a middle movie that derailed everything, while the company seemed to attack the very people that wanted to give them money (sequel).

It's pretty hard to objectively say that Disney has failed with Star wars. They have made 5 movies, 5 live action series, multiple animated series, and two theme parks. They have made billions off Star wars, and they did not produce the three flaming turds that were the prequels. At least they haven't tried to sell the same thing over and over again as a "spewcial addition with 7 seconds of "never before seen footage" that probably should have stayed on the cutting room floor. Don't forget that Episode IV as Lucas originally cut it together was an unreleasable pile of steaming crap. It was re-edited (and saved) by Paul Hirsch. That was the only one of the original trilogy that Lucas directed. Empire and Jedi were directed by Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand. You may not like the Disney Star Wars products, but saying Disney failed at it is objectively false. Furthermore, I bet most of the people commenting here have paid money to see those movies and shows, so quicherbichen. If you look at it with clear eyes, you realize that if Lucas had been left to his own devices, A New Hope would have been the beginning and end of the Star Wars franchise, and it would have been a failure.

Does anyone remember back in the day after the success of when it was Just Star Wars before it became episode 4 “A New Hope “ , George said that this Trilogy are the “Adventures of Luke Skywalker” and that these characters won’t be in the future films except for some mostly being either one or both droids as the or characters span the entire series and that the prequels will be in reverse order of 3,2,1. The years later George said there won’t be any further episodes 7,8,9, because Star Wars has been most of his life and he needs to live his life. George …live your life in peace and know you’ve succeeded in giving us our mythology of our time. Thank You for the 6 beautiful movies made with passion and commitment. A story about a father and a son and and the corruption of a soul and it’s redemption. A struggle between good and evil , temptation of power and it’s absolute corruption. I know it wasn't for this purpose, but I think him selling star wars was a brilliant thing in the sense that it has shown people how if you get something well loved and run it through Hollywood or establish media, it can be turned into a soulless husk. Sad that Starwars was the sacrifice, but at least people are learning not to just go watch something because it's from a big studio or well known company.

I see it more as introducing a new generation to star wars we have the older generation that grew up with the og trilogy the mid generation that grew up with the prequels that back then EVERYONE hated on and we now have the new generation on the sequels which once again EVERYONE hates on but inbetween all that we got shows like the clone wars which has some good moments mandalorian which aint bad andor again aint bad and other stuff i cant talk for as they’ve yet to release or I’ve not watched i also hear kenobi was good

Star Wars, A New Hope was the number 1 box office movie from 1977 - 2009. I don't think anyone ever, could stay top of the pops for 32 years straight. Not Disney, not James Cameron and especially not Hollywood.... ever

One thing many people fail to understand is that Star Wars, despite its futuristic setting, is based and has its soul rooted in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology as well as in they’re epic genre and even they’re political structure. So either Disney didn’t get this or they didn’t care since nor did most people anyway
