George Merrill performing "Waiting For A Star To Fall" at the WCS NW Chapter Music EXPO II, Nov. 12th, 2011 - SmileynoteStudios, inc. For all the haters out there (what's up with that); the audience was quiet because they were listening, in awe of the humanity, the talent. Also, it was a small audience because it was a private songwriter event. Believe me, the love and gratitude in the room was anything but small or quiet. Thanks George, Dick and Doug for that amazing afternoon of inspired, honest music.

So happy to discover this tonight. When it came out, I'd just asked a young woman out, but she was busy with final exams, Christmas coming, and I needed to drive east soon for the holidays. She told me to call as soon as I returned to St. Louis and, somewhere while driving in Indiana, I heard this song and had a very, very good feeling about her. Around the same time, she was telling her mother about my date request, adding, "That's the man I'm going to marry." She is sleeping right over there on the couch, two children and 31 years of marriage later. Thank you, George Merrill. This is a gift for me tonight.

Sadly, the privileged people that you see there that watched that largely did not appreciate the genius they were witnessing. The sheer timeless beauty of the lyric and heartfelt emotion put into it by George are an absolute joy to behold. It was bittersweet watching this. Such a talent that got critical acclaim instead of stardom. His and Shannon Rubicam's souls were in every song they wrote or performed. Their album "Reel Life" was a masterpiece and when the camera pulls back, all we see are empty chairs. I'll never understand why their careers never took off. I guess they were meant to be falling stars instead of shooting stars after all.

I was just explaining how this song can really show two different dynamics. The original is upbeat and good vibes. This version is so sad and you can it’s almost a pain to the lyrics. Given the circumstances of what happened to both of them, I understand. Just crazy how much of a drastic difference slowing it down with piano can do.

lennart2089 You said it brother!!! the foolishness of youth causes talented Artist to foolishly spend up there money like there is no ending of a trend or a hit song. Some buying a car lot sizes of rows of cars,u it throwing a way money on drugs and to much partying binges and not enough taking advantage of the short time they most likely have in the limelight. Most music artist have 1 or 2 hits then disappear and the lucky ones who get 1 or 2 more hit songs are able to make a career performing them like Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow and Celine, and Brittany Spear. But the rest may end up working regular jobs 10 or so years later because they were swindled out of rights and ownership to their music and because they were unknowledgeable about the record companies in keeping rights for the profits that the Artists can make and continue to live off of in the dry years when they aren't in the youth market no longer. If you smart save most of that money and spend only of what you need. So you can pay for a schooling for training for a new career.
