I love that the audience are clearly expecting Freedom '90, and when he starts the Wham! song all the old Wham! fans go nuts!

I saw him twice in concert and both times he did this acoustic version of Freedom. The song is sad but has an upbeat, infectious rhythm. I always thought the contradiction was curious

His performances at this concert were so amazing. He just owned that stage. Hearing Wham's Freedom with just guitar like this really let's you hear the simplicity of a classic Pop song. He was a genius at understanding how to write them. A supreme talent that was never appreciated enough. Love you GM forever. ❤️❤️❤️

Next to Love's In Need of Love Today... this is my 2nd favorite song from this concert. I always thought he sang other people's song better than they sang it... now he managed to recreate one of his own songs and made it better. Love this so much more than the original!! It's like the grown up version of the original, lol... love it...

I was singing around the London clubs in the 80's and earned a few shillings from it. This guy vocally always stood out. Great range and also his voice didn't thin out on the top notes. Just an incredible voice. Looks like he was a lost soul. Adored by millions but seems that wasn't enough. RIP George. You were an incredible talent and the world will miss you and your music. Your voice was unique and irreplaceable. Thanks for bringing sunshine into our lives back in the 80's.

Mesmerizing! How he effortlessly reinventing himself here, as if looking back at his own innocence of youth. While his later album "Listen Without Prejudice" ascends him into the greats, I’ve never understood why people overlook the genius of his Wham! songs...

@MM-hq2xb4 жыл бұрын
Enchanted Wanderer I agree with you George wrote some real classic songs during his Wham! and his solo days. He didn’t feel his Wham! songs were taken serious enough but he had nothing to prove to anyone because in reality they have stood the test in time. He had a natural ability to write beautiful lyrics as well as sing them with his pitch perfect voice.

Amen. From every clip of this concert I find on YT, I feel it too. And I just have to say, I hear what fellow fans are saying when stating that GM was under rated or under appreciated. Haters gonna hate...but... Can we all agree that you would have to be living under a rock in the 80s and 90s without knowing that George Michael was a hugely talented songwriter, producer, and performer. The people who say otherwise need to go back to pop music school. RIP GM, we love you and miss you. #faith #freedom

With the mtv unplugged/freddie mercury, this was one of gm's best concerts in my opinion, i remember watching it back then and also princess di being there- killer/papa was a rolling stone was a great performance too- this version of freedom transports me straight back to 1984 and its such a massive shame he did not do this track on 25 live tour, and i SO wish he had also performed hand to mouth, cowboys and angels, waiting for that day, star people- guess we cant have everything- but IF only..

casshern06 aOh what was the whole experience like?! I'm an American and was in college and we 1980s kids were SO excited to FINALLY see George Michael perform for only the second time since he went into hiding! But when he came out instead of being high energy and dancing around like he always had, he looked shockingly old and grown up in his very dapper 3 piece suit and pocket watch and seemed low energy and somber and like he was looking off in an unfocused daze and we wondered what on earth had happened to our beloved George Michael. The guys who were watching it with us told us for the first time that there was a rumor that he had a boyfriend who had died from AIDS 6 months earlier and was probably understandably depressed because of that. We were shocked because we hadn't heard anything about it and asked where they heard that and it was from a music journalist source somewhere and we found it so sad to watch him seeming joyless and depressed that we actually left the apartment because we couldn't stand to see him like that. It felt like the death of our childhoods too! :-( The next day we found out that that same impression and experience had universally happened with kids at both USC and UCLA and over the next few years I talked to people from all over the US who said they had tuned off the show too because they couldn't watch it for all the same reasons. It was like the death of George Michael and our childhood. Then we didn't see him again for a year until 1994 MTV Europe Music Awards show and he had had plastic surgery and had somehow changed his voice and dressed and moved in a stereotypically gay way and it was like he had intentionally changed himself into a totally different person. We felt like the happy boy was gone and that was the grown up nail in the coffin on that innocent youthful part of our childhoods. We realized he no longer wanted to exist as the icon of our childhood memories and was moving on. It's strange how traumatic felt to us. Being older now I realize what a weight that must have been for him. In that song "An Easier Affair"f rom around 2006 he sang "It's an easier affair not living my life with other people on my mind"
@carmenschwisow56474 жыл бұрын
Yes, this concert was 6 months after the love of his life died of AIDS. I think this concert was a tribute to Anselmo. And he was also performing for his Princess, so tight jeans and studded belts were not in the menu, I’m sure. ;) one thing I love about GM is his transformation and growth as an artist, songwriter, and performer. I think this show was right in line with where he was artistically at the time. He had released Listen Without Prejudice three years before, and that album was totally different from Faith or WHAM! music. I loved how he breathed new life and soul into this performance. Freedom, One More Try, and Father Figure were beautifully delivered here.
