One quick note, Robert's Rebellion did not begin because of Lyanna's disappearance. That contributed to it, but the war really began when Arys demanded Jon Arryn execute Robert and Ned on the spot, after Arys had already killed Brandon Stark and his father. When the order came, Arryn refused and they raised their banners and went to war.
@Dadecorban2 жыл бұрын
You could actually justify if it based on Robert's POV. For him, it started there, and really, demanding Jon Arryn's head and the Stark's dying in King's Landing was all a direct result of Lyanna getting "kidnapped". If this was narrated by some Maester I would agree with you, but it really does feel like it's Robert telling his story.
@elyastoohey66212 жыл бұрын
If you look at the prelude to the rebellion, you see a very clear pattern of alliances forming. So Dorne marries house Targaryen. Dorne also seeks to marry house Lannister. House stark arranges Brandon to marry Catelyn. House Arryn wards Rob and Ned. House stark/Baratheon lines up Lyanna to Robert. So we see Stark, Tully, Arryn and Baratheon in a clear alliance bloc. Even more, at the outset of war Lysa very quickly is married off to Jon Arryn. Massive 4 way alliance of lord paramounts/kingdoms. Who is left? Greyjoy’s. No interest in the iron throne. Dorne. Allied to house Targaryen. Tyrell/Reach, allied to nobody. Honours call to war but doesn’t really go hard for house Targaryen. House Lannister. No alliance nominated.. It’s speculated the 4 way alliance was positioning themselves either to be a defensive bloc, or to depose the king.
@Dadecorban2 жыл бұрын
@@elyastoohey6621 Sure, it's likely there was some deep planning going on for whatever purpose and these marriage pacts preceding the atrocities in King's Landing were not just coincidences. 100%. @elyastoohey66212 жыл бұрын
@@spiritwolf5539 Ehhh, maybe. Rickard Karstark was not Ned. Almost certainly more like Brandon. Hoster was a powerful man who put his family first (Why Cat is such a C*nt to everyone in the name of her family). Jon was a very intelligent political man. Robert was a man largely raised by Jon (weird for a lord paramount, as Robert was L.P from a young age after his parents drowned). It should have been Stannis who was fostered. They may have considered Rhaegar, but they were likely going to go with Robert if Rhaegar was not compliant to their wishes (Not just about aerys but they would have pushed leverage over the crown). Robert was the backup. Robert could be manipulated, and was also quite a hero to the people. You have to understand, whilst House Targayrn had lost a lot of prestige, just how much of an upset it was for house Targaryen to lose all power. Up until this point, the only real challenge House Targaryen faced was from other Targaryens/Blackfyres. There were a few minor rebellions, and the Targaryens had to use marriages after they lost their dragons to keep things balanced. SO it has to be assumed RObert's rebellion was in part planned. Aerys sped it up, but it was being set up regardless.

The sad thing was Robert had this perfect innocent image of Lyanna in his head. He never knew the real Lyanna and he was so blind to see that she loved Rhaegar. Many people noticed how she looked at Rhaegar when he gave her the flower crown but Robert was blind. Instead of seeing the reality of the situation- he took offense. Im not sure if he deliberately didnt want to believe that Lyanna was infatuated with Rhaegar or he was that ignorant of the whole situation. I think its the latter one. Robert, despite winning his war, is one of the saddest characters in the books. There was nobody there to tell him the truth- that Lianna never loved him. Ned Stark chose Jon Snow over Robert. Ned knew Lyanna didnt love Robert. If Robert knew the truth, maybe he would have had some peace and could have given Cercei a chance. Yeah. And I read about the book of Ataturk's life. And I notice, Robert Baretheon is very similar to Atatürk. Hitler had waited for Atatürk to die in order to attack Europe. Because he knew that Atatürk would gather all the Balkan countries, make an alliance with Russia and England, and end the war with his military and courage before it starts. He saw the danger of Hitler and Mussolini in 1933 and had the neighboring states sign the "Balkan Pact" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Pact Atatürk had warned General McArtur about Hitler in 1932. Just like Robert warned Ned and Cercei about Danerys and the Dothraki. Just like Atatürk, Robert was a charismatic, warlike, witty, romantic, depressive, drinking-loving leader of the people who got bored of being an administrator and giving orders. Atatürk also fought, started a rebellion and won against the imperialist states and the Ottoman Empire that occupied his country. Both characters are very similar. Atatürk have İsmet İnönü, Robert have Ned Stark. :) Ataturk's wife Ms.Latife's character just like Cercie. Atatürk actually love Ms. Fikriye. But Fikriye was dead. Etc... By the way, the Nazi's only hesitated to attack Turkey. They could not occupy. Because of the brave and self-confident new Republic of Turkey under the influence of Atatürk. Ataturk hated Hitler, the Nazis and Mussolini, but Hitler and Mussolini respected him.

I think many of Stannis’s problems came from leaving King’s Landing after Ned was named Hand. 1.If Stannis had been around, Renly would never have dared to usurp his place. 2.If he had been around to work with Ned, the truth about Cersei’s children would have come to light far earlier. 3.If he had stayed, the Baratheons would have had enough troops to crush the Lannister coup d’état. In fact, neither the coup nor the murder of Robert would even have happened. It’s easy to be wise with hindsight, of course. But surely a shrewd army leader like Stannis ought to have foreseen trouble from the Lannisters if he reduced Baratheon numbers by leaving. OK, so he was annoyed with Robert, jealous of Ned, + spooked by Arryn’s death _ and the info Jon Arryn left behind. But at the very least _ even if he didn’t want to go into details, he should have left a warning to Ned to fill King’s Landing with Starks and loyal troops. FFS, Stannis even knew Janos Slynt was untrustworthy _ and corrupt.

I love the history and lore. Feels like this all happened in real life and grrm just narrates it for us. Its addictive to me to read as much as possible and gather all the information I can. I honestly think I could teach a class on it by now lol. If I applied myself to a real line of work as I have to this I would be a millionaire.

I know it's probably just cause the show doesn't mention it, but I find it funny how Bobby B doesn't seem aware that his grandmother was a Targaryen princess. He seems to think his claim comes from Orys, who lived three centuries ago, rather than his grandmother who died, at earliest, 20 years before him. Probably just a consistency error or maybe I'm not listening to him right.

Probably something to do with how women inherit in most of Westerosi society, not to mention I'm not sure how distant she was from the king - Targaryens had a large extended (and interwoven...) family, but they were all princes and princesses (or kings and queens).

@@andromidius robert’s grandmother Rhaelle was the youngest daughter of King Aegon V Targaryen which makes robert and rheagat second cousins
@dnacat50622 жыл бұрын
@@andromidius Grandma Rhaelle was the daughter of Aegon V, who died three yeas prior to Robert. We don't know when Rhaelle herself died, but she'd literally have been the aunt of Aerys, making her pretty close kin to the immediate royal family, so you'd think Robert might cop this. Probably just an oversight, and it's definitely not as cool as the story of Orys Baratheon.
@zenebean2 жыл бұрын
Robert does not strike me as someone who cares to think about being related to a family he swore everlasting hatred against. Orys is a badass warrior who he is probably the spitting image of, and right of conquest pretty much was his claim. Everyone just wanted Aerys out, and Bobby B had the North, Vale, Riverlands, and Stormlands behind him. Jon or Ned could have taken the throne, but they were both sticklers for claims. The justifications come after the rebellion most of the time
@Ravie12 жыл бұрын
@@andromidius Westeros seems to be male preference primogeniture, meaning eldest sons and their their descendants in order of seniority inherit, meaning if their is no "trueborn" heir in the males lines inheritance goes through the female line, barring of course incidences where kings choose to alter the inheritance rules through royal decree. Given how fond the Targaryens were of incest it's not surprising that if he killed all the targaryans (assuming Danny and Viscerys hadn't escaped) that he would actually have the best claim to the throne given how rarely the Targaryens wed outside the family.

Outside of the Targaryens, Robert Baratheon had the best claim to the throne anyway - his grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen, aunt of the mad king.

@WandersFar2 жыл бұрын
The drop of blood from Orys is irrelevant. Robert’s grandmother, Rhaelle, is where the Maesters hang their hat. She’s the most recent Targaryen princess to marry outside the family, which gives the Baratheons the strongest claim. Really though, this is all rationalization after the fact, since as the video rightfully points out, Robert won his crown through conquest, Targaryen blood or no.

I think Robert knew that Lyanna was infatuated with Rhaegar and never him. He just denied it so hard that he built rage and Destroyed The Targaryens. I think he just couldn't handle that rejection , despite Robert Himself being Any girls Dream , 6'6 tall , Muscled, strong , One of the best warriors, Charismatic etc.

The Targaryens were destroyed because the Mad King provoked Jon Arryn into rebellion by sentencing Robert and Ned to death for no reason after horribly executing Ned's father and brother and a bunch of other nobles. I'm tired of people pretendig that Robert randomly declared war out of nowhere.
@balerion775 ай бұрын
@@gooby214 Maybe it's because you wanted to get pissed off you wrote the comment. Nothing was mentioned about Robert declaring war randomly in that. It just said Robert told himself That She was Forced so much, so that his Vow to kill Rhaegar and Targaryens was more legit. It should've actually been called Jon Arryn's or Stark Rebellion to be honest coz Of what Happened to The Starks or How Job was the one who Rallied everything together. But Robert became the Main dude coz of his battle supremacy.
