I gotta agree with George sometimes the mystery is the best way to go. Not everything and everyone needs a deep origin or have every detail explained

In other words, he doesn’t intend on outright telling us about where Rhllor or The White Walkers actually come from. The mystery makes it better.

Enlighten me then. Where did R’hllor and The Great Other really come from? The show claims The Others come from the Children of the Forrest, but that would negate R’hllor’s story.

No. He said he likes to preserve some mysteries, that doesn't mean he won't reveal anything.

I love Martin! What made my day was while I was focused writing on my paper I just overheard him bring up the mysteries of Karl XII’s death and the deaths of Richard III’s nephews. These, as a historian, really make us fall in love with learning about the past. They make life interesting, allowing us to ask questions, write theories, and even write about them. If you think about it, the aspects of anything that will immediately catch a reader’s attention, make their minds wander into wonder, and make them engage with the lore are the aspects of the unknown.

In Star Wars, we see both ends of this. Fans destroying the franchise by giving every button on Darth Vaders armor an identification number and a purpose, and on the other hand we have J. J. Abrams, who uses mystery to evoke a sense of wonder, but then doesn’t care to come up with answers at all. There is a sweet spot and I think the Souls games are a very good example of that. You cannot quite put your finger on it, but you feel the answer is there.

We aren't getting origin of white walkers, are we ?
@pedroalitovar66244 жыл бұрын
To know how to defeat them, we must know how are them and where they came from. I mean, It's like he say, he won't put it all together on one page with all the characters revealing it. Reading with attention you have to figure it out by your own. I think the White Walkers are a original race from Planetos, as the children of the Forest. The Long Nights were only this strange beings trying to grow up. But they're coming was provocate too by the sins of the people of the Empire of the Dawn. They were the price of blood that the humans paid for using magic. Something more... like a coincidence, a predestinations thing. The White walkers were the punishment that the "Gods"/The magic gave to the Empire of the Dawn by using magic and bad magic. It were the cost, the price of it, as it happened with Yeen, Valyria, Asshai, etc. But, the White Walkers by their own they had their own reasons to provocate the Long Night. i dont know if I'm explaining myself well. I'm bad on English xd

Its not good to keep everything a mystery though, especially the most interesting. i mean he revealed how the children of the forest came to be but only after making us salivate for the info which is a good thing, plus in other for the story to go further we had to know the history cause it was tied to dragonstone plotpoint which might be a good tip in terms of revealing mysterious events and such. only do it when the story needs it to go further but do it in bits not all at once, just sneak things in here and there. i mean its very crafty when you think about it.

That's one of the problems of today s movies în Hollywood. The destruction of epic villain characters with the stupid need of showing us their motives, making us to care and love them, and transforming them in misunderstood characters. We don't need to know who, why and what they are. The mistery is what makes them glorious and memorable.

Not true bro I connect alot more with villians when I learn more about I'm not denying mystery elements but being able to see the complexity of a character makes them more interesting. Example Darth vader

I disagree with Martin on this point. Yes unexplained mysteries are amazing and keep the reader/viewer intrigued and lets them create the background in their own minds. But a truly masterful writer will unveil the mysteries of his universe slowly over many years or even decades in such a way that can leave the readers self created image intact. This is done by already having a plan in place for the entire background and history of the fictional universe and then only giving out hints throughout the stories. So even science fiction and fantasy can in a way become a detective story where the puzzle is not a crime but the history and background of the universe.

@theM4R4T6 жыл бұрын
@@Kalenz1234 He's giving you hints about that too if you pay attention, you can play detective if you like. There's no need for a book where he reveals how everything really happened, that would really ruin the series for me. Check out the Order of the Greenhand for example for some clarity on things. This way his story will remain alive in a sense after it's finished and people will still talk about it.
@MarkHogan9946 жыл бұрын
People like you are honestly so fucking dumb. Of course he won't reveal EVERYTHING. No writer has literally revealed everything. That doesn't mean he won't reveal anything at all. Of course he will, and already has. He even literally said all present mysteries will be resolved. Calm the fuck down.
