Based on clues GRRM has given us, I think the prequel series House of the Dragon will be about the Dance of Dragons so you may have to wait a long time to see Balerion :( It's okay though because the Dance is a better story than the Conquest in my opinion, and we'd still get Vhagar when she's described as almost as big as Balerion got!
@TomUK7374 жыл бұрын
@@sam_c95 I thought the same, but apparently theyre casting for Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys so maybe we'll see them in flashbacks or they will actually cover the Conquest. Either way, House of the Dragon is going to fucking epic!
@sam_c954 жыл бұрын
@@TomUK737 Thanks for this info Tom, I hadn't even heard of that and it dates back to January! However, I believe the reason why I never heard about it is because it's probably fake news I'm afraid. So I'd suspect no Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys at all, but you're right, it'll be epic if they pull it off right! I've just been looking into this information, here is all I found just for anyone who is curious... This is the original article that made the announcement about casting Aegon I, Visenya and Rhaenys - it states nothing more than they found out the casting descriptions really: knightedgemedia.com/2020/01/casting-call-has-gone-out-for-aegon-visenya-and-rhaenys-targaryen-in-hbos-game-of-thrones-spin-off-series-house-of-the-dragon/ Notice what the reader comment says below the article - makes some good points including no one else reporting the same thing. On top of that, there is this response article from winteriscoming.net a few days afterwards, disputing the 'news': winteriscoming.net/2020/01/28/no-hbo-didnt-put-out-a-casting-call-for-aegon-and-his-sisters/ ... including a link to an article of theirs on the best information they have referring to The Dance of Dragons: winteriscoming.net/2019/10/30/hbo-ordered-10-episodes-game-thrones-prequel-house-dragon/ GRRM himself gave us a reading list if we wanted to know more about what the new show would be about, and he wrote, "If you’d like to know a bit more of what the show will be about… well, I can’t actually spill those beans, but you might want to pick up a copy of two anthologies I did with Gardner Dozois, DANGEROUS WOMEN and ROGUES, and then move on to Archmaester Gyldayn’s history, FIRE & BLOOD." Dangerous Women includes George's work called The Princess and the Queen (Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower) about the Dance of Dragons, and Rogues includes George's work called The Rogue Prince (Daemon Targaryen) about the years building up to the Dance during the reign of Viserys I. georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2019/10/30/the-dragons-take-wing/ GRRM also more recently gave us an update on the progress of House of the Dragon and informed us that they are still in the writing phase (which implies there is no casting yet) and haven't been slowed down due to the virus because of that: georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2020/04/14/this-that-and-tother-thing-3/ Here is a separate and much more up to date article stating there is no information yet on casting news also: autofreak.com/house-of-the-dragon-season-1-what-are-the-cast-details/15870/

Dragons are an amalgamation of the main predators of the primates we evolved from: large hunting cats, birds of prey, and snakes. Breathing fire? Imagine a snake bites you. What does the snake bite feel like? Fire. Why does every culture have dragons? We evolved from the same primates. Why are dragons cool? They represent fear of death at the deepest level. The visceral fear is thrilling in fantasy. Slaying dragons means surviving death. Riding dragons means conquering death. It moves our unconscious at a deep mythological level. I recommend Joseph Campbell’s “hero with a thousand faces” and some talks by Jordan Peterson if you can stomach the culture wars surrounding him (whatever you feel about it, a mythology lecture is a mythology lecture).

@tagrerte47014 жыл бұрын
He's the author tho. If in-universe his wyverns are called "dragon" then they are dragons, that's it. Also, let's face it : dragon is a cooler word than wyvern. "It's an Elder Dragon" OH SHIT "It's an Elder... Wyvern" Huh. In short, it's smarter to not be nitpicky and call this flying monsters "dragon", for it is a more popular term and deeply engrained in the minds of people. Also, the difference between dragon/wyvern was made when the 2 coexisted in a world of fiction. A difference was to be made. But when there is 1 kind of dragonoid in-universe ? Who gives a shit, just call them frigin dragons.
