Maybe that's why, because he's found a way to express himself, and let the "demons" out. It's very healthy to do this actually! I certainly wouldn't call him respected. He's great at building a million characters and faraway lands with lots of history...but that's the easy part. Anyone can do that. He writes good dialogue, but again...that's also not difficult. Where he's yet to impress anyone, is the part that matters: Tying everything together to make a decent ending. As soon as its time to do that, he falls apart. In ASOIAF, he keeps delaying it, by constantly throwing in new characters that simply don't need to be there, or moving existing characters to new locations where he can describe everyone's clothes in painful detail, and talk about what they had for breakfast, and who their great great grandfather was, but do little to drive the story forward. It's pretty much been all downhill since the Red Wedding. If he wants to be respected as an author and not just someone who made a lot of money because someone made a popular TV show of one of his book series', he's going to have to end ASOIAF well. And, based on past performance, I don't think he has it in him. I don't think he even wants to. He's terrified of even trying; He'd rather write more about the back-story, and keep throwing new characters at the problem, making it even worse.
@mortache

@@ashscott6068 No, anyone can NOT do that lol. Look at Asimov - so many great ideas, so many forgettable characters. I think you should rather stick to books that focus on the story like children's thriller books than character and dialogue

I wish you both lots of good fortune with your careers! Stick with it and remember to finish work. As George says, get short stories published in anthologies or anywhere you can. That way when you finally finish your book it's "the highly anticipated first novel by Deric Mederos!" Instead of "who on earth is that?" (I used Deric's name because I highly doubt Blood Wavegamer is your name, or even your pen name lol) Just remember to keep writing. If you're struggling to find motivation with your creativity (as we all do sometimes) I suggest "the war of art", a great book. It might not tell you anything new, but I thought it was a good read, I have a friend who loves the book and recommended it to me. It helped them get past writer's block. My method was to just write a page of swear words and silly sentences and it kind of helps me to relax and stop thinking, let's the words write themselves. It got rid of all the inhibitions. "well I just wrote a page full of stuff like, 'Sven the silly sausage slithers sideways down the sewer into Sandra's sombre sandcastle' how much worse can it get!" I also google image search "fantasy paintings" or something like that and just scroll through until I see a picture I like, then use that as the basis for a story. I haven't written anything for years and years though. We all have our own methods, maybe something I have shared will help you two become to next GRRM or Tolkien, Rothfuss or Hobb or who ever you want to be! 💜 Feel free to share any of your writing, I'm always eager to read. Have a lovely day you two! xoxo

Its sad that even after becoming world famous, achieving renown of the highest order in the literary and television fields, and success financially that most of us only dream of, the lowest common denominator is "HAHA HE FAT!" I care for peoples health but this isn't constructive and feels mean spirited.
