Love George and his many versions of the quintet, got to see him in concert in Feb of 2003 at Florida Atlantic Univ' just months before he fell and was forced to retire. I told my wife that if we're going to see him, we're gonna meet him, she didn't believe me lol and so we did, he and his wife Ellie were so warm and sweet, they were more interested in us and as George said "It's so nice meeting new friends" spoke with us for at least 20 minutes about our life. A lady from the school was taking pictures, Ellie asked if we would like to have our picture taken with George for a souvenir? well yeah! Still have that photo. George is gone now but his music will live forever, what a blessing to have met them 🙂

My folks didn't have a recording by Shearing of this particular song, but the sound is similar to what I heard when I was first introduced to jazz as a toddler. And check out a young Toots on guitar!

Armando Peraza on conga drums. There is also a timbal at Shearing's left hand...

You can tell Armando by his left hand. He curls his fingers in kind of an unorthodox way...when he does his heel/toe motion, the heel part is really close to the edge of the drum! ...only way I knew it was him! 🤣

Toots is not playing an acoustic guitar. It's a hollow body electric, and the electric pickup under the strings is clearly visible in the guitar closeup around 1:00.

He had the same moves as Ray Charles in this video. How cool is that?

George Albert Shearing mostly rocks back and forth. Ray Charles Robinson mostly rocks left and right, from side to side.
