So I'm originally from Manchester England and now living in the USA as a proud United States Citizen.! I love this song so much and being a truck driver i finally crossed that Wyoming line and and saw the sign for Cheyenne . I was screaming at the top of my voice it's Cheyenne..! I made it to Cheyenne.. People celebrate going to Paris France NYNY or seeing the Great Pyramids of Egypt.. I felt so blessed that i saw Cheyenne..

I remember driving my dads truck after he passed and he had this in his cassette player (this was in 2009.....he had a 91 Ford F-150 Lariat, in IMMACULATE condition). I remember turning the truck on, and this song starting, and I just sat there crying. Every time I hear this song, it makes me tear up. I remember going to rodeos with my dad when I was 5-6.....he rode the bulls and I rode calves....my sister did barrel racing......Oh what I would give to have it to do all over again.

In my opinion, the new artists try too hard to act and sound like they're country and they just come across as fake. George doesn't pretend to be someone he's not. He's genuine. Alan Jackson is genuine. Chris Stapleton is genuine in his own unique way. Most of the others come across as city folks cosplaying as country, with their over the top southern accents and the lyrics of every one of their songs being about stereotypical country things: beer, church, boats, bars, etc. Every song by every new artist touches on the same stereotypical subjects. Country music radio is saturated with the same lame topics.

In my old running around days in south Texas we used to see George all the time all over the place. The first time I ever laid eyes on him though was around 1979. I was 18 years old. My friend said “look who’s playing tonight , it’s George strait.” I was like “who’s that?” Turned around and oh my goodness he was handsome. When they took a break I went and talked to him by his truck pulling a trailer . That’s all it was then. They just went by Ace in the Hole. He told me he was married and I said, “oh heck I’m not trying to pick you up. I’m just flirting because you’re so good looking.” 😊😂

This man is legend. He will and should rain as one of the greatest traditional country artists of all time. George is just simple and magestical in voice. A soft and innocence that brings about calm and peace to the heart. A lot of people overlook Cheyenne when discussing George's hits, but i think this is one of his best. Simple, beautiful and pure country to its greatest!

@George Strait I grew up in a pretty rural part of Idaho. It was very hard to get away for concerts. I have been to a few concerts in my mature adulthood, but it was always a wish to be able to attend a George event. The locations and timing just never worked out. Thats ok; I have most of his albums, several of his songs on my phone playlists, and have my pandora set to his channel. I have a lot of favorite country artists, but George is usually my go to when i just want to reflect and have pure heartfelt feel good music.

As a Western Canadian who appreciates and understands the rodeo and the agricultural history of the west and, of course, the Calgary Stampede, the greatest outdoor show on earth, as they like to advertise it, I'm concerned about the concentration of urban votes in federal elections where more and more votes are directed away from anyone who knows anything about rural living.

The song is about the life of a rodeo cowboy. The song begins with a phone call from a cowboy on the road to his love. He assures her that he is coming home. However, her tone alerts him that something is wrong. The chorus reveals that the woman has decided to leave him for another she feels is more reliable. The man replies that as much as this pains him, he will go on to Cheyenne, the most prestigious rodeo around. He was going to give up Cheyenne to be with her, one of the biggest sacrifices a cowboy could make, yet the moment he learned she had replaced him for another, he was quick to try to make Cheyenne. The cowboy does get to Cheyenne but it is revealed that when he does, it is his love that is still foremost on his mind. The song is about Lane Frost.

Actually Maria. This is a man's song. Yeah the man is a Rodeo Cowboy trying to make a living but... it's about all of us trying to make a better way the best we know how and a woman wanting more than lonely nights alone. If you've ever been to Wyoming the wind is omnipresent. I know it's about Frontier Days but... it's about a man with a broken heart asking way too much from a man while he is doing the best he can to give her a good life the best he knows how and she spits on him. You know we hurt to for loves lost though we don't shed tears. And this song kind of embodies that to me. Whatever. I can still make Cheyenne and watch a Rodeo even though I didn't qualify to ride. Not everyone works a 9 to 5. And my own wife's boyfriend better replace my beer after a month or two or 3 on the road, right? I love lost and a life that goes on. All the barrel riders are looking for love too, right?
