I remember driving my dads truck after he passed and he had this in his cassette player (this was in 2009.....he had a 91 Ford F-150 Lariat, in IMMACULATE condition). I remember turning the truck on, and this song starting, and I just sat there crying. Every time I hear this song, it makes me tear up. I remember going to rodeos with my dad when I was 5-6.....he rode the bulls and I rode calves....my sister did barrel racing......Oh what I would give to have it to do all over again.

I can't listen to this without crying. I lost my husband to cancer nearly 7 years ago. We were married for 38 years and loved one another so deeply that it nearly killed me after he was gone. I had always hoped and beleived that we'd last until our 90s and would dance on our 60th wedding anniversary to this song. But it wasn't meant to be. I love him with all my heart and always will. I'll never find another love as true as ours.

I know this song is about rodeo, but as a retired OTR truck driver this song takes me back to those long days spent driving from one city to another, including Amarillo. The line "I aint got a dime, but what I got is mine. I aint rich but lord I'm free" fits how I felt. George is a country music legend, and deserves to go down in country music history as one of the greats like Hank Williams Jr and Sr.

The name of that "fiddle player" is Gene Elders, and he's been with George Strait's "Ace in the Hole Band" since 1985. Trained in classical music, Gene's discipline in playing violin is obvious and he has such a casual manner of delivery. That wailing final solo very nearly steals the show :)

I'm not an American, but I wish I was. The older generation of American Country music is my favourite. George Strait portrays the statute and characteristics of a true American Gentleman and his music is phenomenal. God bless America sung by Lee Greenwood makes me feel patriotic on behalf of the great men and women who fought for the freedom of America. Listening to this great song August 2024. God bless America.

What makes George the greatest is that he's the most pure. He doesn't need a big expensive show, just put him in front of a microphone with the spotlight on and that's all he needs because he's that great of a singer.

I have had three marriages, first gave me two kids and we lost their mother and I raised them by myself. Then I met a lady and fell for her. Turned out to be hell on earth but I made it 26 years before walking away and giving her the ranch and taking only my truck, dog, and saddle. After a bad spell in East Texas I met a lady from a ranch 60 miles south of Amarillo. We both rodeoed, her as a barrel racer and break away and I roped calf's. Happy now, love each other and spend a lot of time with the horses and some cattle, swapping rodeo stories, horses we've had, people we knew and just enjoying our lives. Oh yeah, it ain't a country western band without a fiddle.

Baldemar Cervantes YOU ARE THE DEFINITION OF STUPID. YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE AT BOTH PIGS FLYING AND MONEY GROWING ON TREES THAN YOU DO OF POP COUNTRY EVER BECOMING AN ACTUAL EXISTING SUBGENRE YOU PATHETIC SACK OF SHIT. THIS IS LITERALLY JUST AS MUCH THE DEFINITION OF COUNTRY AS ANYTHING FROM ANYBODY'S MOUTH ON LITERALLY ANY FM COUNTRY STATION ON THE PLANET THESE DAYS.

Privileged to have seen him live at Houston Rodeo a few years ago. What an experience. The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. Incredible interaction with the audience of approximately 80,000. That fiddle playing is superb.PURE COUNTRY. The king of country rules

I think of my wife when I hear this song. It was her favorite song before she lost battling cancer. I wish I could change the hands of time. She was always there for me and our lovely daughter. Life can be so unfair most of the time, but sometimes I wonder why bad things always happen to good people

On holiday in the 80s from the UK i was driving through southern Texas (great State and people) and the radio had been signal seeking for about an hour (it gets pretty remote in those deserts!),then on the radio comes George Strait out of nowhere.Never heard of him,but the impact was instant and the setting perfect for the song.
