At the risk of outing myself here, I am a new fan of the spot. My first proper fight, that I was hyped to watch was Izzy Vs Gastelum. Editing together vids for MMAOnPoint, you learn a lot very quickly about the history of the sport. I had heard of GSP before being a hardcore fan and now know tonnes about him and his career. But helping edit this piece was truly a breathe of fresh air and a solid reminder how great an athlete Georges' was. It is so easy to have recency bias and forget all the incredible achievements by fighters in the past. A truly honourable fighter and forever champion.

Oh man, I remember when I was you. It's such a blast dude. The MMA world is rich with amazing characters and stories. As a combat sports handicapper (been doing this for about 4 years now) some of my favorite plays are done on the contender series, where I get a chance to really learn about the fighter's past. I remember Raul Rosas Jr being one of the most fascinating in terms of how he had to lie about his age to compete against adults. Anyways, loved the editing work on this. You and the team make fascinating work and I hope we get more deep dives on fighters like this piece!

@kevwwong

@@kristofszekeres1375 Probably true. And I don't think Bisping was a bad fighter by any means. But he's a guy that will go 5 rounds, outwork and outpoint you. Yoel and Whittaker have explosive power, which is probably the thing GSP is most vulnerable to. His game plan would probably have consisted of a lot of takedowns to wear those guys out. Risky given the punching power and general strength, but I think it would've been his best chance to win. With that said, we can only judge the guy based on what he did, not what could have been. I think he's the GOAT. Won't be mad if someone puts him second behind Khabib, but I won't think they're right.

Yes. He defeated every opponent he ever faced. He displayed the MIXED aspect of MMA with could strike, wrestle and grapple with the best of them. He defeated the "who's who" of MMA when they were at their most dangerous including prime Matt Hughes x2, prime BJ Penn x2, Michael Bisping (coming off wins against Anderson, Luke and Hendo), Jake Shields (who was on a 15 fight win streak), Jon Fitch (who was on a 16 fight win streak), Nick Diaz (who was 11-1 in his past 12 fights), Carlos Condit (who was 13-1 in his last 14 fights), Johny Hendricks (15-1 coming into the fight and probably "enhanced"), Sean Sherk (31-1-1 coming into the fight), Thiago Alves (9-1 in his past 10 coming into the fight), and Josh Koscheck x2. GSP boasted the best timing you'll ever see in MMA where he was able to level change in the blink of an eye. You'd be hard pressed to find a fighter who used the jab better than GSP and he made takedowns and passing guard look astonishingly easy. As far as accolades go, GSP also won 33 rounds in a row, landed the most takedowns in UFC history, most control time in UFC history, 2nd most title fight wins, 3rd highest takedown percentage, finished every fight when he was a challenger for the title. Won a title in two different weight classes. I'd say his only real competition is Jon Jones, who tested positive for PEDs, Khabib, who didn't fight the level of competition as GSP, and Mighty Mouse, who has more losses than GSP. GSP comes out as the greatest.

Georges St. Pierre dominated the welterweight division in an era when it was the most stacked division in the world. He out-struck professional kickboxers, out-wrestled NCAA champions, and out-grappled bjj world champions. He avenged every loss, came back from an ACL injury that was often career ending at the time, and came back after retirement to win the championship in a higher weight class. He's the best that ever did it.

This was really well done. Not only does it tell you how good of a fighter GSP was but it shows the person he was as well. MMA wouldn't be where it is without him. To me he is the GOAT. No controversy, dominant champ and went up to become champ at middleweight. Of course there are guys like DJ that I think should get mentioned more and current fighters like Volk who still years to build his legacy. But you just don't get better than GSP. He was everything you would want in a fighter. Great athlete, hard worker, professional, well rounded and fight iq. And the way he carries himself is how I personally will remember him. The end of this video really summed it up. In a sport that has shady characters and things that go on in the behind the scenes GSP stands out as a humble man who had the most prestigious career in MMA and represented mixed martial arts better than anybody ever has.

I remember getting into the UFC for the 1st time when Brock Lesnar was fighting Cain Velasquez for the HW strap. I remember watching that fight but the UFC kind of fell out of my view for a while afterward. It wasn't until I saw UFC Unleashed a couple years where they showed GSP defending the belt against Condit. Seeing how thoroughly he dominated Condit and how he survived after Condit scored a hellacious headkick hooked me to GSP and the sport, for good this time. However, I saw that re-run fight when GSP vacated the belt after the Johny Hendricks fight so I never saw his WW reign live. I desperately hoped that GSP would come back from retirement for another run. I saw fan-made documentaries on his career, how dedicated he was to his training, how he would dominate fighters in ways that the enemy and the fans wouldn't see coming, and discovered the coaches that were in his corner (Zahabi, Danaher). Then, the announcement for UFC 217 came out and I was so excited to see him make a comeback. I even decided to make it the first UFC event I would go to LIVE in MSG and I made the flight there so I can express my support in the stands. Even though the trip to NYC was hell, ending the night by watching what I believed to be the best UFC card ever made it all worth it. Not only was the card absolutely superb, but I also watched the main event with bated breath as GSP looked to be gassing and was bleeding heading into the 3rd. I was off my feet when GSP knocked Bisping down and choked him out to be a Two-Division Champion. GSP's performance inside and outside the Octagon cemented my love for the sport of MMA and I aspire to train as hard as he did. He was an inspiration and he will always be my favorite fighter of all time!

My favourite Georges St. Pierre story was told by my cousin. He runs (ran?) seminars which led to a friendship with a fellow who's name escapes me but the guy fought GSP prior to GSP leaving for the UFC. The retelling of his description of GSP is hilarious: "That guy was the strongest dude I've ever met. He grabbed my arm early in the fight and I immediately knew I was screwed. He had this evil little twinkle in his eye like he knew we weren't on the same level, like 'You ahrr gohing to fhly naow, little man" then he did whatever he wanted to me for the rest of the fight. On my record it says I fought Georges St. Pierre but in reality someone paid me a bunch of money to get my ass kicked by Georges St. Pierre." Since I'm doing storytime and know almost nobody who's big into MMA I also worked with someone who fought Rory MacDonald in an amateur fight (confirmed on wikipedia). I asked if he knew Rory would be what he was and he said, "Well... Rory was the fight where I knew I wasn't going to make a career out of fighting. The guy's fundamentals were *so sound*. Like, he just NEVER made a mistake, EVER, and there wasn't anything I could do to push him into a compromising position. He beat the bricks offa me." lol

THIS is what I hoped for when I started subscribing when you guys posted your first video. Great narration, insight and most all; ORIGINAL CONTENT. Not that power of Goku shadowrealm-talking-over-other-peoples-content-shit. You guys are the golden standard. Also; this video, as well as everybody else's, fail to emphasize how good Hughes was at the time. He was the P4P greatest, the mighty mouse and the Khabib at the time. There is no question in my mind. GSP faced the best competition of his era and was, and still is, the greatest mma fighter of all time.

One of the greatest of all times. A very humble champion, didn't do much trash talking, a true role model. You are right, even though all of us would have loved to see him fight more, it is refreshing to see him ride out into the sunset on top instead of fighting till he is forced out.

I am not the one who comments on youtube videos that I watch but this one is an exception. Great tribute to GSP's MMA career and this is not because of the fact that GSP is my favorite of all other fighters. Kudos to MMA on Point for this. Please continue creating fantastic content like this.

Once again, you guys did an amazing job. You should be the top MMA channel on any platform. Thank you for the effort you put in to your videos. For all others attempting to build channels, MMM On Point is the ruler to which you should measure.

I love GSP cuz I think his loses show how he’s the greatest fighter in mma. He was able to learn from them and use those lessons in the future, also he was revolutionary with his training.

GSP is the GOAT in my book. I'll never put any fighter with a 100-0 record over GSP. GSP paved the path for modern mixed martial arts. So his contributions to the sport along with his accomplishments are way to much to be challenged.

One thing i dont see ppl mention more is the fact that ppl are still holding out for a GSP return. The man is “old” (41) and last fought like 6 years ago, yet ppl are still holding out for a return. That, combined with GSP’s athleticism says alot about how highly hes regarded.
