I met Master Gu back in 2005 when I first visited Wudang. Back then he still went by "Victor" and was but a friendly tour guide helping us english speaking folks get around Wudang. It's amazing to see how much he's transformed. I guess we all have a chance to walk a different path in life. Super happy to see that he found his peace and now passes on his knowledge to willing students.

Well, I would ask you what knowledge is Gu shifu offering? A tourist's guide to Daoism? I too have met him and while He is a nice enough fellow, he is not on a par of many of the other teachers on the mountain. At Wudang there are many ways to gain some status as a master but if you present yourself to those teachers who represent their respective schools, Master Gu is not well received. And George seems to be following in his path. Lots of pictures making Himself out to be a serious Daoist student of Wudang Dao. Or he's just a KZbin Daoist. What is true about all those pictures of martial posing is that there is no depth. Maybe George should spend a few more years truly studying the Dao and build his credibility within the martial community not on KZbin.

@@carrolmiller-r7u For starters it would only be fair to provide some background yourself before discrediting anyone else. Having just met someone hardly seems enough. While there is some truth to the things you have to say I personally don't think this is the way to go about it. I've spent enough time in Wudang way before the "social media" generation. Things haven't really changed much in terms of masters and schools. If students find happiness within the teachings they receive, who are we to judge!? Just my two cents. Peace.

@@hkkino I appreciate your point but I'm not presenting myself as a teacher of any of these arts. On'y that I am interested in their preservation and the transmission of their methods in a thorough and traditionally acceptable manner. It seems to me that there are too many people ready to present as teachers and that to some extent I would apply that condition to Gu Shiyi. I spent a month training with him, or more accurately living at his school on the mountain. Most of the time he was going back end forth into town and didn't spend much time teaching. On a few occasions he we would spend a day wandering around back trails on the mountain, which was fascinating. It was wonderful to be introduced to these off the trails places and to meet the people who were living on the mountain as Daoists. But not affiliated with the major schools where so many people come to study. Those schools while completely valid are also teaching under the auspices of the government. I have no real argument with that but I think it is worth noting. So if you want to know more of my background you can email me with further questions.

@@carrolmiller-r7u Fair enough. I think what most students seem to forget that this is a business. I'm not saying that's bad but that's the bottomline. There's been an ongoing debate of how much of these teachings are still related to any tradition whatsoever even back in 2005! If one is willing to accept that fact then by all means go for it. In the end each one will have an individual experience and draw their own conclusions. Just like me and you. I actually ended up training a family based style of Kung Fu in China. Shaolin and Wudang at least nowadays is pretty much a tourist-trap. I know this sounds overly negative so take that with a grain of salt. Again I can't stress enough how important it is what one seeks. But like you I do sometimes feel we have a tendancy to romanticize certain aspects of training Martial Arts in China. Peace.

These two are such warm and lovely human beings. But I would really love to see Gu tackle some of the rougher philosophical questions from a Taoist perspective. It’s been hard for me to find any help with grieving, trauma, etc. I’d also love to hear his perspective of god and afterlife

Very nice video and tips. On the other hand, I did find the intermezzo's of George a bit distracting. I would prefer just some scenery shots in between the tips from master Gu. This way the words can sink in. Just my preference :)

I take care of a friend I've known for quite a while I don't always have a lot of time however I prefer George's site because he isn't consistently comparing behaviors And is more complex and wonderful to hear how Taoism can support our lives in reality Mind you reality is a broader more complex term Tao isn't just a term for guidance it's also reason, logistics and feelings and instincts in our lives Thank you for these they move on and allow us to understand at least and at a time like this in peace 🗾🌅

Be like water, water knows how to use everything, water knows it's in a low place because everything flows towards it,thats how you do the communication to people, humble and kindness, use them and this will change your life. And do not stay at your home,go outside,go touch plants, say hi to them, and feel the Qi from them, feel the sunshine, theres a reason that why this is necessary but i dont know how to explain it to you,if you want to know, read "Yi Jing"
