This made me laugh. City folk. Being the daughter, granddaughter of southern farmers, as soon as this man started talking I knew what was coming. This good man, I believe, has a very important and probably urgent point to make. He appears very knowledgeable and the information he wants to share is, no doubt in my mind, information Americans need to hear. HOWEVER, it would be impossible for him to say it in the 3 minute time allotted. Southerners, especially southern farmers and ranchers, have a rhythm to their speech. It gives the listener time to hear and digest what is being said. Information is passed on in parcels. When there is a subject with different components, or possible different outcomes, there is a pause before each is discussed. The speaker hasn't stopped talking, there is a pause that actually does help the listener absorb the information because each part of the subject, of the whole, has it's own place. Confusion is avoided because the large amount of information being conferred doesn't run together, isn't mixed up. Each component of the main subject becomes its own little subject. I could've simpley said that a southern farmer says nothing fast. I think it's actually state law that if the farmer farms south of the Mason Dickson then said farmer shall not use any form of rapid speech. Yes, I could've, but then again, I did say I was a southern farmer's daughter and a southern farmer's granddaughter. Such brevity of speech might be against the law.

He repeated himself several times and started going off in the weeds wasting time. Just keep it simple. Don't need to be lectured by a farmer on "complicated" vs "complex" systems. Just say what his concern is with Gates owning farmland. And btw, it sounded for a minute like he was going down the rabbit hole of blaming "climate change" for something. The climate has been changing for 4 billion years. And if he wants to split hairs,... clearing forests to do farming ain't exactly a recipe for curing what he might have been about to blame his woes on.

Unfortunately the farmer was unable to translate the challenges of modern farming and what it does to the land in a very shortened format. The modern version destroys the soils and water retention (water runoff) of the soils and all the organisms that go along with it. Plus Bill (government, WEF, Davos) is gearing our toward a government based management of farming (although it is not called that) for climate change purposes. Which in the end will guide your diet and eating habits whether you like it or not. In the end, he gets what he wants and all the money and farmers get nothing and we get what ever they tell us.
@damionkeeling3103
@damionkeeling3103 2 жыл бұрын
The first part is often true. Farming is heavily dependent on modern systems with drones used to map fields, automated milking sheds, internet connected harvesters. You want to farm like the Amish you still can, but modern commercial farming produces yields vastly superior to medieval style farming or they'd still be farming like the Amish.

@@mrrey8937 Hard to help people understand the importance of crop rotation and letting the land lay fallow for a growing season. Most people think in terms of "dirt" not soil. Soil has a complex eco system going on inside of it that has a very delicate balance that has to be protected and preserved, if not, it becomes dirt, and takes years to be restored to soil, IF it can be. IF it hasn't been too damaged, by mismanagement.

If your high speed news cycle only allows for a 60 second answer, don't ask a question that has a 6 minute answer. The point he was trying to make was that industrial sized commercial farming has destroyed the land wherever it has been implemented. Most people down south only speak when we have something important to say, so we speak slowly as to be understood. The rest of the country hears quickly, but listens to very little.

I think that's the reason he's buying up all this farm land - to let it sit. It's part of the "green new deal." They don't want farmers using their equipment because it "pollutes" the air. They don't want cattle on the land because their farts "pollute" the air. Less farmers equals less food, and that's the plan. 😕

If he wanted to change the food supply then he could patent certain strains of foods an plant them in the areas shown on that map. Then the winds will blow that seed as the jet-stream flows across the country. If farmers are found to have any of that seed growing on their land then they are subject to fines and penalties. Most of purchases are instead where land is cheaper. Just a theory based on how Monsanto has operated with respect to genetic patents.

I don't feel bad for family farmers. I've worked harvests for them and 4 out of five tried to rip me off of my honest labor, especially the German American farmers of ND and Iowa. Calif farmers will sell their land to developers in a heartbeat after having received federal farm aid for decades. Most family farmers are mercenaries who studied agricultural economics, that means : how to be an expert in the Farm Bill.

Befre watching this, want to give my view. Sri Lanka and the Netherlads has seen farmers rise up for not being able to use a certain kind of fertilizer. If they do not, they will lose 30% of their crops. There are some farms that will not be able to sustain that loss and remainnin business. So besides scooping up farms on the cheap, I don't think many Americans would put up with this. So how do you get a country the size of ours with lots and lots of land? How are our farms going to become carbon neutral? Buy up as many farms as you can and then do not farm them.

Okay, so TBF, Stuart needs to investigate (staff, obviously, not him) as to how Gates is now making use of all this farmland he’s bought and get an Ag-Econ specialist on the air to get to the nub of the farmer’s issue, then hand off to the farmer so he can have his three minutes to make a personal point about why this matters. A better producer here could have fixed this segment from the unfortunate failure that it was.

This “reporters” approach to this conversation screams of elitism, arrogance and ignorance at best. At worst it is an indication that he was directed to pursue a narrative, and not pursue the truth. If the latter is true you can be dam sure he isn’t receiving that direction from working class or middle class moms and pops.
