This version of Georgia might be my favorite song of all time. Still after all these years the line, "If I fix you. Will you hate me?" devastates me to no end. The idea of someone so broken, they'd resent you for such a kindness is something I've been on both ends of in my life.
@david_oliveira718 ай бұрын
If I may: to 'fix' someone is first off impossible, and 2nd is it the wrong idea altogether. Why not, instead, consider accepting them and being at their side to support them in their struggles as best as possible (with boundaries of course)?!
@Vincanni8 ай бұрын
@@david_oliveira71 I do agree completely, in my experiences both instance only drew resentment despite how noble to cause might have been. Validation and support are infinitely better than trying to, "Fix someone." Granted, when I was clinically depressed and in and out of hospitals, my best friend reached out to me annoyingly so, I look back and am thankful for his efforts, despite how unworthy I felt of such attention at the time. I always drew a parallel to this lyric due to this, though yes a softer approach on his behalf would have been preferable, but hey, we were just teenagers at the time.

@@MrEL91N Of course we can blame them, they create the demand that makes people like Phoebe make albums like Stranger In The Alps. Or we blame the producers? Anyway good for Phoebe. When I first saw her it was in a 200 seat theater opening for Conor Oberst before they did that collab project and before her first album. Now she's playing stadiums, opening for Taylor Swift. There's a lot more money in selling over produced pop music to kids than there is doing blood on the strings acoustic folk pop, even with a voice like phoebe. Maybe I'm just bitter, I fell in love with the singles and EPs and then many of my favorite parts of my favorite songs were so different on the album. @ivanl.82013 жыл бұрын
I'm 48 and have discovered her in 2019, but only because I knew of Conor Oberst, which gave me a chance to stumble upon her Better Oblivion project she did with him. She has been hugely influenced by Eliott Smith, whose music I sadly listened to very little, but I think what really draws me into her performances so much is that she has that passion, nuance, complexity and just this raw ache to her music which is what originally got me to listen to Kate Bush and Suzanne Vega when I was much younger. And I think she's very much a Kate Bush or Suzanne Vega of this generation, and I think most people don't yet realize just how good she is. I honestly think she's not even aware of it herself, and probably doesn't give herself enough credit, either, but she's solidly on the road of becoming one of the most amazing & influential songwriters of the 21st century. I love that outro ending on "Scott Street", and her vocals saying "Anyway, don't be a stranger" totally echo that sweet melancholy that Kate Bush was so good at channeling. She even sounds a bit like Kate in that part.
