Oh trust me, even as a Hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I can vouch for Final Fantasy 14's story. Out of all Final Fantasy games, in my mind, Final Fantasy 14 ranks as the absolute number 1 in terms of story and characters. And it's no wonder, you spend so much time in the beautiful world that is Eorzea, and you learn so much about the different characters (especially the ones in the trailer), it just starts to feel like home after a while. And even if it didn't, the devs have packed so much love into the game, and they continue to expand upon the story.. and the best thing about it: Endwalker feels like a real ending to the first story arc of the game, picking up plot threads from all the other expansions, and tieing them neatly together. It's a master class in story telling, and definitely my favorite out of all FFs.

Gunbreaker is a tanking class, and they use the big gun-sword that you saw a few times in the trailers. Around 19:45 you asked if everything was this sad or angsty, and...well, there's no shortage of drama, but that particular trailer (Flames of Truth) represented the devs actually *DESTROYING THE WORLD* at the end of FF14 1.0, before they spent 2 years absolutely furiously rewriting the whole thing from basically the ground up before releasing 2.0, titled A Realm Reborn, which is the FF14 we all know and love. 1.0 was pretty lousy, from all accounts; I wasn't there, but I've seen enough explanations. The next trailer you watched, named A Realm Reborn, was the (re)launch trailer for the game back in 2013.
@JM-nothing-more Жыл бұрын
yeah, if you were to start the game now those first two trailers are in the past. the wreck of the giant airship is a location in the game, and you see references to the battle in the second trailer and the destruction caused by Bahamuth are referenced often
@MorguerotheGaming Жыл бұрын
@JM-nothing-more yeah 1.0 was a jumbled up mess of a game that was basically unplayable. The player base left and the devs decide "yeah we screwed up. We're kinda sorta starting fresh." They shut down the servers. That Flames of Truth trailer played for anyone in the game when the 1.0 servers went down. Thus, the name of 2.0 which was A Realm Reborn. It was a complete rework of the game and a massive success, keeping the story of 1.0 as the past. It happened but the spell cast on the Warrior of Light sent them into the future to keep them safe.

Also, apparently anyone who had a character from the original game not only got their names in the ARR credits, but they also got a unique tattoo shaped like the R symbol on the other Scions, which is Louisoix's symbol (the old wizard man). So that's pretty neat!

Answers for a couple of your questions that aren't story or spoiler related, though I'm sure you friends will tell you as well lol: Yes, the main dude in the trailers is representing our character that we make. You can make them whatever you want, they just went with Generic Anime dude for the trailers lol. And yeah, he was given a different Job or Class each trailer, to represent how you can play as any or all of them on just the one character. From damage dealers like Samurai, Monk, Dragoon and Black Mage, to tanks like Paladin, Warrior and Dark Knight, and healers like White Mage, Scholar and Sage! Plus different jobs for crafting and foraging like Miner, Fisher, Blacksmith, Weaver and Carpenter! Plenty to do :D And yes, you can use a Gunblade lol. Gunbreaker is the Job that uses it. It's one of the Tank classes, but you can't start out as one. Some of the Jobs are unlocked through quests and can only be started at later levels. And don't feel too bad for us about the waits between expansions lol. The game DOES get updated between them. The expansions have numbers that go with them, so Realm Reborn is 2.0, Heavensward is 3.0, etc up to the new one Dawntrail, which will be 7.0. But in-between they have smaller updates that add a little more story, new side content, lots of stuff. Like right now we are waiting on the 6.5 update to come out pretty soon. So yeah, definitely give it a shot! It is indeed unlike other Final Fantasy games, yet also so familiar! There's so many references and nods to the other games, I'm sure you'll love seeing them!

Even better, now is an especially good time to play as it has been announced that the free trial will be expanded to include the first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood. It already currently includes Heavensward, so it's adding the second expansion, Stormblood. That is many many hours of content, maybe even over a hundred, for FREE! So the actual story and reveals never stopped. We've also been getting entire new raid questchains, which have been consistently great since Heavensward, so that's pretty nice. Those are basically fairly self contained mini stories about dealing with other larger plotlines off to the side. So yeah, people haven't really been waiting too long for content, it's just that this is adding the new BIG stuff with the new areas and classes and stuff. And that's something people are super excited for because nobody really knows what the one-handed sword Class in the trailer is going to be. But my bet is on Weaponmaster. After playing all the expansions, seeing the first trailer always makes me tear up. Such an amazing story.

It's not as bad as you think with the wait between expansions. We get a main patch with new story content every 4 months or so, and it comes with a bunch of other stuff. Taken together, it adds up to about an expansion's worth of storry in itself. You seem fun, I'll through a sub down on the hopes that you start. To answer some questions: Yes, gunblade is used by a job called Gunbreaker, which you can pick up after hitting level 60 with any job. (and owning Shadowbringers) Samurai as well, unlockable by hitting level 50. (and owning Stormblood) The 'main guy' in each trailer represents the player character, as you already guessed :)

Heavensward story really broke me when certain scenes played, you get the back story of the characters and understand the motivations on what that individual character wants and needs. Also note the age of the main character that supposed to represent you grows from fresh faced adventurer to war hardened warrior of light and so on. he grows alongside you as progressions takes you to a new level.
@Helbereth Жыл бұрын
Gunblade is absolutely playable as the Gunbreaker job, though to play it you have to reach 60+ (current level cap is 90) and own the Shadowbringers expansion. Yes, there is also Samurai and 17 other battle jobs currently, as well as the 'limited job '(too OP for normal play, so it's its own thing) Blue Mage, plus 8 different crafting jobs and 3 gathering jobs, all of which you can acquire with a single character, making it so you never actually need to make another. The guy seen in all the trailers is referred to as Meteor or Derplander (mostly by the community) among other names, and is meant to represent the player character in the trailers. There's tons of lore, probably hundreds of characters at this point, about 500-1000 hours of main story (depending on your pace), 5 expansions worth of additional patch content including raids (8-man and 24-man), dungeons, trials, a couple dedicated expansion zones with full stories, all of which is kept evergreen by the level-synched duty finder, and an assortment of other activities like glamour (fashion), housing, and, after finishing Endwalker, you can even get your own island... it's a LOT. If you do decide to play, just know that all the stuff I mentioned is mostly optional - really the only thing you have to do is the main story quest and a few side things that were deemed necessary due to their importance to the story later. There's no rush. Nothing is mandatory and everything is encouraged.

YES!!!! The beauty of the Free Trial is that you can play for free up until the first expansion and level 60 BUT! that is going to be expanded to the 2nd expansion and level 70, which is over half of the game. There's also no time limit on the free trial, so you can play at your own pace. FFXIV is also well known for being aggressively kind and helpful to new players, who even have a cute lil nickname "Sprouts", because newer players get a lil sprout icon above their heads. This symbol is an immediate sign to other players to be patient with you, to let them know you might need help etc Very worth playing imo.

Absolutely play this game! I started in the early days of Covid, and Ive enjoyed it thoroughly. In the time since I started, things have expanded and been streamlined, so the early campaign is less tedious. Honestly it is my favorite Final Fantasy because you're able to play (and switch) to so many different classes... And of course the EPIC story. The characters are incredible! The biggest thing is to avoid spoilers as much as possible, and to make sure you don't spoil things for others lol. You're missing a lot of context atm so you're still safe for now 😅

FFXIV is first and foremost a RPG and then an MMO, a RPGMMO if you will, and the dev team are working on adding single player options for most of the game's story related content, so its really something you can go at your own pace!

One big feature of this game is that you can play all classes as the one character (unlike games like WoW where you need to make an alt character for each class you want to play. And yes, the Gunblade is, in fact, a playable class in the game. It's called Gunbreaker and it's a tank.
@DXDragon38 Жыл бұрын
54:53 Yes, it's called "Gunbreaker" in FF14, and it is a job that comes with the Shadowbringers Expansion. You can unlock it once the Expansion is purchased and you have a Lvl 60 Character (Any class). I suggest you play the Free Trial, use it to beat the Base Game, Heavensward, and then Stormblood (it's being added to free trial soon) and then buy Shadowbringers to unlock Gunbreaker.
@sinom Жыл бұрын
to add to this. You will only need to buy either endwalker or dawntrail depending on when you actually get through stormblood. Any purchase of the currently newest expansion includes all previous expansions. Also most likely older expansions will in the future also get added to the free trial. Heavensward was made free in 2020, Stormblood in 2023 so ShB will most likely be made free in 2027 or so. So always only the newest 3 expansions will be paid for while the ones before that will be part of the free trial

They've put a lot of effort into making it more "singleplayer like" kind of. A lot of the dungeons and such can be done alone with NPC support characters coming with you. It's basically an RPG game with an MMO strapped onto it, great mix of both! Really recommend giving it another go :) Also Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of many of our older FF games, got really into the game a while back and just couldn't stop playing it. He's called it a Final Fantasy theme park! Lots of references, lots of bringing old FF games' things into 14 whether it be a small reference or literally a class of characters we meet, among many other ways they work to make it a love letter to the franchise as a whole.

The best thing NOW, for those like yourself, who are very intimidated by MMO is the fact the game now has the option to play it like a single player game without the MMO. Duty Support are NPC that you go along during dungeons in the MSQ without having to play with other players from ARR to EndWalker 🙂 Another to really consider - Reading. Lots and lota of reading. So much reading, it surpassed the amount of worda the the Holy Bible (not joking) So if your big into reading, this is definitely your game. Lastly, in the game, we're about to celebrate the 10th anniversary of FFXIV A Realm Reborn release. So it would be perfect to celebrate with us all as you start your adventure. 🙂

We love playing this game because of the community and the story! I’m sure people have already commented on this, but I love that you had the 1.0 trailer. Flames of Truth was the cinematic that 1.0 players got when the servers shutdown for 1.0 and was the bridge to FFXIV ARR (2.0)!

The composer for the game, Masayoshi Soken, is an absolute beast with the music, it's all so good. He even wrote the climactic song for Shadowbringers while in the hospital for 6~7 months undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, a situation that he had kept secret from most of the rest of the development team because he didn't want to impact their performance worrying for him. They only found out when he announced at a Fan Fest, live on stage, that the treatment was successful and he's doing better. He's a total legend. So yeah, the general course of FFXIV updates, we get a teaser trailer first and then the full trailer is dropped later on. We'll probably be getting it in January 2024, to tempt us for a June-ish release, the full trailers are more or less twice the length of the teasers and expand some scenes and add more that would reveal some other hidden info of the expansion. There's one scene here that looks like it'll be expanded in the full trailer when the white haired catgirl is looking down at something and seems surprised, we'll likely be seeing what's going on in the full trailer. Many of the characters shown in these trailers have been with us from the start but they didn't start getting screen time until Shadowbringers, when the story is well and good getting settled in on you and them as the main cast of the story. While the 'main guy' the trailers follow does generally make for a stand-in character for the players, he's also got an in-universe representation of his own. That elf dragoon dude too, Estinien, is a pretty major character and a proper badass. There's a ton of references and callbacks to other games in the series, if you're a longtime fan of the series there's just so much for you to see and experience. There's bosses, raid battles and extra content that is all themed around different games, it's easier to list the titles that haven't gotten a ton of representation than those that have been covered. As much of a treat as the main story and experience that 14 is, the extra content and additions along the way are an even greater prize for fans that know the rest of the games. My own brother was so invested in the post-story plot introduced in the post-launch content of Endwalker that he went and bought the whole 1-6 pixel remaster set so he could play through the entirety of FF4 just to have better context for what it entails.
@Scarabswarm Жыл бұрын
I suspect the fight scene will also be extended. There is a lot of buzz around the WoL being a new class, so them cutting the fight short to keep the details of that under wraps a little longer seems to make sense. Plus, there is likely more to see between Estinien and the Mamool-ja tracking that beast down and capturing it.

Final Fantasy XIV Online has been a huge part of my life for the last 10+ years now. I loved it and also hated it, but I’ve NEVER stopped playing it every single day because it’s sucked me in so deeply and just hasn’t let me go. It quite literally changed my life in so many great and amazing ways. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell the creators of this absolute masterpiece what it has done for me as a person and as a gamer. I really hope you enjoy your journey and I hope you stick with it this time. It really truly is amazing… for the story that will most likely teach you about yourself and for the community you’ve never experienced in any other MMO ever. Welcome Warrior of Light… you won’t be disappointed. I promise you that. 💜

@guilegale8942 Жыл бұрын
If you think of each expansion as a new game in a series, it makes a lot more sense. FF14 is HEAVILY story-centric, and each expansion is a new chapter of the story. You can finish the base game and have a good time. You can play the next expansion and have a good time. And the next one, and so on and so on. There's no rush to get to the latest content, there's nothing forcing you to skip where you're currently at like so many MMOs do, you can just enjoy it like you would any other RPG. And the story is WORTH taking your time for. It's no exaggeration to say it's my favorite Final Fantasy, period. You get so much more time with your cast of characters and your narrative compared to other games in the series, and they make GOOD use of that time to build some of the best characters I've seen in a game, period. This is a game made by people who love what they do, and it shows.

FFXIV is the most casual MMORPG there is today. Its story its awesome like a regular FF game while there is no chains to attach you. If you suddenly stop playing for a while, there is no guilty of "I didnt farm my gear for X days, my account is done for" because the weekly farm is pretty easy and 3 times during each expansion cycle (with is 2 years), they release new weekly gear and the previous one turns into something very easy to farm. So if you drop the game at any point, its okay to comeback later, you wont miss so much. Also thats what the game director Naoki Yoshida wants: play XIV, stop playing XIV every now and then, go play other games, come back to XIV when there is new stuff you like.

It's interesting to note that having played through all the expansions and stories that the 'Flames Of Truth' cinematic hits on many, many different levels than you first think it does when you first see it. Which is a testament to how well this story was thought through and put together. To me, it's a must play game and one of the best Final Fantasies, regardless if it's an MMO or not. Timeless.

Gunbreaker is a tank job in the game that uses the gunblade. The way things work in FFXIV is you start off picking one of the base classes (gladiator, marauder, lancer, pugilist, rogue, archer, thaumaturge, arcanist and conjurer). You level them up to 30 where you pick your job which is an advanced version of your class. The base jobs are (Paladin, Warrior, Dragoon, Monk, Ninja, Bard, Black Mage, Scholar, Summoner and White Mage. The base jobs can only be objtained from leveling up its respective class. The jobs that were added in the expansion dont require a specific class, you just have to have one leveled up to 30 and have completed the Main Story Quest for A Realm Reborn. Heavansward added Machinist, Dark Knight and Astrologian, Stormblood added Samurai and Red Mage, Shadowbringers added Gunbreaker and Dancer, Endwalker added Sage and Reaper. It is unknown at this time what will be added in Dawntrail but there are speculations on which jobs will be added.
@Null_Experis Жыл бұрын
The Dragoon with the white hair is a major character in the story, and if you want to meet him as soon as possible, you should pick up the Lancer job class when you are able, get it to level 30, and advance to Dragoon. you can start off with any job you want from the main beginner jobs, and which one you pick decides your starting city: Pugilist (Hand to Hand melee), Thaumaturge (Offensive elemental Magic), and Gladiator (Defensive sword and shield melee) start in Ul'dah, a desert city. Marauder (Defensive Axe melee), Arcanist (offensive non-elemental pet-based mage with light healing) and there is also a "secret" starter class of Rogue (melee, daggers, available at level 10) which start in Limsa Lominsa, an ocean/island city. Conjurer (healing and some earth/wind magic), Archer (Ranged bow DPS), and Lancer (spear melee dps) all start in Gridania, a forest city. Once you hit level 15 or so, and advance the main story you can freely travel to every city and change jobs whenever you want.

The first trailer had the Battle for Silvertear Skies, where the Garlean Empire fought against Midgardsormr (the Leviathan-esque creature) and his brood. He's actually a companion on your journey during the second expansion, Heavensward.
@AyameAkito Жыл бұрын
To do a brief resume about the trailers, the brown haired man in everyone of them is called Meteor by the community and he is the stand in for the Player Character and his job changes to represent the flagship job for every expansion (Archer for now inaccessible 1.0, Warrior for 2.0 A Realm Reborn, Dragoon for 3.0 Heavensward, both Monk and Samurai for 4.0 Stormblood, Dark Knight for 5.0 Shadowbringer, Paladin for 6.0 Endwalker and A yet undisclosed new job for 7.0 Dawntrail). To clarify, the game has a extensive live patch cycle between expansions that help continue the story and release around 2 to 4 months or so, regularly adding MSQ (The main story quest of the game) and Endgame content (More difficult versions of MSQ fights and some independent Endgame content), as well as new side activities, this is usually referred as the X.1 to X.55 patch cycle. The Gunblade is the weapon of the Gunbreaker Job, is a designated Tank role (Thou the community often jokes it is a DPS in disguise), but you need to meet a few requirements to unlock it, that being having a LVL 60+ Combat Job and to buy Shadowbringers but before you can panic when you look at Steam and see the only expansion available is Endwalker, all previous expansions are always unlock after buying the latest expansion. Lastly, yes it has been meme to death but the game does have an extensive Free Trial, that is going to be further expanded in the future to include Stormblood for free, of course you will be impose limitations, you can find them here support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&la=1&tag=freetrial so you can play until you can decide if the game and it's story is of your liking, or at least worthy enough to commit to a monthly subscription, you can just purchase the game and the latest expansion and it should be it, just be advice that the Free Trial version and the full version of the games are considered different games by Steam with their own independent launchers.

The male character, officially named Meteor Survivor, more commonly known in the community as Derplander, is our in-game character so he represents us in the trailer. He starts from Archer (1.0), Warrior (A Realm Reborn), Dragoon (Heavensward), Monk and Samurai (Stormblood), all the jobs he represent until he changed to Dark Knight (Heavensward) and Paladin (Endwalker). For Dawntrail, he uses a new job for that expansion so until the next two FanFest, we don't know its official job name or if he even uses the new job. Starting from Shadowbringers onwards, you see the other cast members (party members essentially). The one using the gunblade (Gunbreaker) is Thancred, the one that was always with him in the last 2 expansions is Urianger (Astrologian). 2 cats, the Miqotes, the male is G'raha (he's an All-Rounder, uses Paladin, White Mage and I think Black Mage), while the female one is Y'shtola (Black Mage but hers is called Sorceress). The Dragoon is Estinien (one can argue he already appear in Heavensward but that's up to debate), and the twins whom you saw in Endwalker is Alisaie (Red Mage) and Alphinaud (Sage). Whether is it worth to play this game, I'd say yes. Been around since A Realm Reborn 2013, the story gets better.
@greylight5 Жыл бұрын
The guy in the trailers is affectionately known as Derplander. He represents the Warrior of Light (the player character) and many of his friends in the Scions carry through the entire game, though they have grown and changed a lot throughout the expansions. I think some of the later trailers (EW especially) would be a bit hard to get into if you don't already know the characters and story. But they're all people you will meet and grow to love! Also, yes... Gunbreaker is a playable job using a gunblade! But you can only unlock it once you get a different job to level 60.

Without spoiling anything for you, that old man is perhaps the most powerful character from the pre ARR version of FF14. As for waiting quite a long time for new expansions, they release major story content with each .X patch and new side content usually in .XX patches. There is also SO MUCH to do in this game that even people that have been playing since FF 14 launch still have things they havent done yet, and for new players like me (started at the launch of endwalker) we have so much to do its insane. My favorite expansion was definitely endwalker, with shadowbringers and heavensward vying for second place. I hope you enjoy the journey!

In the Stormblood trailer that "main guy" you had mentioned from previous trailers was there in 2 instances first on the hand fighting, second as the samurai...He's basically the cinematic iteration of your character(the Warrior of Light) and is basically showing off the highlighted "job"(class) of the current expansion. In the A Realm Reborn trailer you had commented on the dark knight on the horse, that is Odin, a Primal you have the pleasure of fighting in game(pretty hard fight if your doing it for the first time).

I’ve been playing FFXIV for 8 years now and still love it. There’s always things to do, expansions happen roughly every 2-3 years but in between content is added. You definitely can play gunbreaker but you might need to level up a certain amount first before you can unlock it. As an aside you can play every class in the game with the same character, I mostly play Black Mage but I have also levelled Astrologian and Dark Knight as well 😊
@castorc6632 Жыл бұрын
Something to clarify! Like you noted at the end, those dates are for expansions, yep, but between each expansion, there are major patches every few months that are consistently large and continue the story as well as adding new dungeons, raids, side-content, etc, and smaller patches between those to touch things up and add smaller content lines. The consistent ~2 year expansion cycle is generally very well liked, because of the quality of content, and because each expansion has done good work to pull the aging game engine forward. Semi-related, but the game is also pretty light on time-limited missable content, especially to anyone trapped in the gacha treadmill. The developers have openly said that they want you to go play other games when you want to, and to come back when you see something you like. Always a relief to play an online game that isn't out to become a second job.
@thatrandom_canadian Жыл бұрын
Don't worry, FF14 gets regular updates beyond the expansions. There tends to be a patch cycle of Release>X.1>X.15>X.2>ETC. until usually X.55 wherein the next content is the expansion. It's almost always "Story and raid, story and alliance raid, story and raid, story and alliance raid" for each full numbered update. Patch 5.3 for Shadowbringers is often a highlight for fans in terms of story. I personally highly recommend Final Fantasy 14, I thought I hated MMOs because I never liked them before but FF14 has taken the slot for my favourite game of _all time_ with no contest. The story is amazing, the gameplay is so much fun, and the community is what helped me stick around long enough to truly love the former two! I've clocked about 5.8k hours into the game in the last 2 years. That's a little over 210 _days_ of playtime on my Warrior of Light. For the Gunblade, you can actually get a gunblade! I'm not sure if you're in the free trial, but you need at least Shadowbringers and a character at least level 60 to unlock the gunblade class which is a tank.
@basch71 Жыл бұрын
Just from the intro you mentioning that, it feels intimidating as an mmo with alot of content. Without prior knowledge I'd get it, but 14, like Genshin should be treated more like story arcs you're running into and a continuative narrative you're taking piece by piece at your own pace. The actual MSQ as a whole can be long but it isn't as long as you'd think, assuming you're not taking detours. You absolutely can pace yourself and play casually and more or less complete it in a surprising amount of time.

54:55 Gunbreaker (whose main weapon is a gunblade) is one of four tank jobs in the game. They're called Jobs instead of Classes because each job is a combination of two classes (at least in the original release), and your player character can do ALL Jobs, so you don't need alts. I main a Warrior tank on my bun bun (Viera, the bunny race), but I also love to play Sage healer and Dragoon DPS. Chacking Jobs is also as easy as selecting its gear set, as what job you are is definited by what main weapon you have equipped. Warriors use big fking axes, Sages use those lil floaty laser thingies, Dragoons use halberds or spears.

as a lot of people have already said, each expansion has its own story. inbetween the expansions we have major patches every few months, where the story of the expac is continued and setup for the next one happens at the end of that you have the full trailers. the story of the game we have starts at A Realm Reborn, the first one was the trailer for the first version of the game, and yes.. they made the server shutdown into a giant thing in the Lore. the "Flames of Truth" one is kind of something that you understand when you have done the lvl 50 raid story, as that one had to be uploaded because the raids were too hard back in the day and most players could not finish them... they are still hard. in the trailers we have a generic dude as a PC stand in, lovingly dubbed "Meteor" by iirc most players. and yeah all the things that this dude is during the trailers, are playable classes, dont worry you can just do all of them on one character. there are new classes each expac too, since Stormblood there have been 2 each expansion. If you really want to play with the Gunblade as a weapon you would need to unlock Gunbreaker, to have that quest available you need to have a combat class at lvl 60 and Shadowbringers unlocked. It would also be one of the currently 4 tank classes in the game. Dawntrail is hopefully going to be great, but yeah we only have the first of 3 parts from that trailer, so we cant even really tell too much of what that is potentially going to be. As it is the first one they even cut out the new weapons from Meteor... so the amount of theories is absurd! yeah nah there is a schedule for when patches happen actually. Every X.1/X.2/X.3/X.4/X.5 and X.55 patch will have main story content. There are also the X.x5 patches inbetween those, so the Devs actually space out the content over a reasonable time.

Yes gunblade is a job, called Gunbreaker and it's unlocked at level 60 in gridania. It's a tank job and is hella fun. New jobs were released with each expansion. Dark Knight, machinist and Astrologian in heavensward, red mage and samurai in stormblood, dancer and gunbreaker in shadowbringers, reaper and sage in endwalker. The newest expansion dawntrail will have 2 new ones that we don't know what they are yet, but there is lots of speculation on what they will be. Oh and there is a regular patch cycle between expansions. It's just the expansions are big updates that come out every 2 years or so. The smaller updates tie off expansions and build up towards the next, normally at like 6.3 to "finish" an expansion and then it's build up to the next. Each solid X.0 is the expansion release

Man, those cinematics bring back so many memories! Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears watching all that. I've played through all the expansions and have leveled up a bunch of the jobs and it was and still is well worth the experience. As others have said, gunbreakers get gun blades. Pretty much everything you saw as far as the jobs that the various characters have are playable. As far as the characters you meet and get to know and love, it's not necessarily your 'party' per se (although you can use them in dungeon content as an npc party if you don't feel like using the dungeon finder to play with other players), it's a group of NPCs that are part of an organization you belong to. I don't want to say any further because I don't want to spoil anything and I wouldn't worry too much about these cinematics spoiling things either. By the time you get there you'll probably have had so much happen in between you won't really remember the few seconds of actual spoiler stuff that might of happened in each cinematic.

If it interests you, the story prior to A Realm Reborn, or the story of 1.0 FFXIV and its patches, is told through Louisoix Leveilleur(the brown old man) in a bonus disc video called The Waning of the Sixth Sun. It's a huge loredump that not a whole lot of players are knowledgeable of but gives context to the beginning of 2.0.

There’s generally a new expansion ever 2-3 years but to keep us happy during that time every 6 months they do mini releases to add a little more quests and dungeons and such. The gun blade is playable but you have to reach a certain level and you have to own the expansion it’s introduced in.

The update model to the game is 1 major expansion every 2 to 2.5 years, and smaller around 8 hour story updates (patches) every 4 months in between expansions for a total of 5 patches per expansion which in total makes them often around 50% the length of the expansions themselves counting just the main story, and they continue the major side stories of the game as well. The patches themselves are then usually split into two parts around 2 months apart, with the first half having the major side story content and the second half having minor side story content. So there's something new to do in the game every two months or so and usually that content is then enough to actually last most people for those two months

Final Fantasy XIV is a love letter to the previous Final Fantasy games. It features story beats, characters, even locations (Dalmasca, for instance) from other games. If you've played them, then you'll recognize a lot. It also has a canon section of the NieR story! (Because Yoko Taro is silly like that.) It *is* an MMORPG, but (as I'm sure many have mentioned by now) it's more RPG than MMO. A vast majority of the main story is soloable, and a significant portion is free to play; I'm sure you've seen the meme by now. :P It *does* start slow, almost agonizingly so, but it picks up--even sooner than Heavensward, depending on how into the story you are. After all, you're starting as a no-name adventurer come to [insert starting city here] to make a quick buck; you have to build a name for yourself before you get into the all the epic stuff. It's a good take on the Chosen One trope. I know your streaming schedule is limited, and I fully understand not wanting to add Yet Another Game. But I do suggest streaming it after all, unless you just want to enjoy the story by yourself without having to entertain. The reason I suggest that is because there *are* parts of the story you can't solo (8-player fights, 24-player raids, etc.), and your audience can get you groups a lot faster than if you were playing alone and just using the group finder tool. However, I *also* suggest waiting until October (or January), when a) the Stormblood expansion gets added to the free trial, and b) the XBox version releases (or at least has its beta) and there will be a bunch of new players. A note about the English voice acting, also: A Realm Reborn has USAmerican VAs up until the end of it. From Heavensward on, Square Enix contracted a UK studio for its English voices, as well as better direction. The difference is stark, and can be a little bit jarring. That said... you may recognize some of the Heavensward+ actors if you watch any amount of television over there across the pond, as they've contracted a number of television and film actors, too! Apologies for the long comment. I hope you enjoy FFXIV!

Ohohoho you think we're simply asking you to play the campaign? No, you need to do the trial series, 8 man raid story, and alliance raid story, AND the Manderville quest line. No lie, this is about 400-500 hours. Enjoy :)

The music during the section in the shadowbringers trailer where it shows the crystal tower and dancer (dancer is class in the game) is a remix of FF3 theme, eternal wind.

I come from single player games and am a mom to 4 adult children, although I started playing when they were still in school, so I was busy as all get out. This is a game that you don't need to rush and you can take at your own pace. I've never played any other FF game in the franchise, just FFXIV and I don't see me picking one up at my age if I'm honest. I think if you would like to give the game another try then give it ago and just pace yourself if you have real world responsibilities because this game is totally worth playing. The music, story, and the steady increase in developer experience is amazing throughout the 10 years of the 5 expansions and they do not plan to stop. The community is more than willing to answer any questions you have and give you any help you need throughout your journey, so utilize the vast knowledge of the player base. :) You were asking some questions during the video: the main guy we see in the trailers represent our character throughout the game; in each expansion so far there have been new areas and classes/jobs that were released. Heavensward had dark knight, astrologian, and machinist. Stormblood had samurai and red mage. In Shadowbringer was gunbreaker and dancer. Then Endwalker released with sage and reaper. In the Stormblood trailer the two characters at the beginning were monks, which start as pugulists. You were right about the guy in the Heavensward trailer, a dragoon, which start out as a lancer. The starting classes will end up switching over to another class, pugilist to monk, lancer to dragoon, gladiator to paladin, thaumaturge to black mage, arcanist to scholar or summoner, rogue to ninja, archer to bard, and conjurer to white mage. The classes released in the expansions start at higher levels and there are crafting classes you can look into if you want when you have extra time.

i resisted this game for so long, I tried it early on and did not enjoy it. Friends kept telling me it got better, and finally, at the beginning of this year I caved, and quite frankly this game has one of the most compelling stories and hands down the best community I've seen in an MMO. You should give it a shot, the story gets better and better with each expansion. This game has made me cheer, given me chills, and made me cry. You should definitely give it a go.

You absolutely need to play through. Learn the story, the characters. Those you see in these trailers and one in particular who isn't, but you hear his voice. Then come back and watch these again. Your reaction will be 1000x more intense!
