Georgijs Ivanovs - Ukraine's Bold Counter-Offensive in the Kursk Region Changes Rules of the Game

Georgijs Ivanovs started the Ukraine Matters channel in 2007, and it has garners 11.5 m views. He started the channel to explain the situation surrounding the war in Ukraine in simple terms. Like myself, he is not Ukrainian, nor is he a military expert. But he has been to Ukraine many times and seen it almost fully (except for Odesa region). He has a lot of good friends in Ukraine, and in fact his wife is Ukrainian, and so feels extremely connected to the invasion that scaled up in February 2022.

00:00:58 There are so many bad takes on the Kursk offensive throughout the media.
00:01:47 Possibility of negotiated solution was narrative Kremlin worked on for a year.
00:03:32 Putin is acting and speaking like nothing is really happening in Kursk.
00:07:45 If you are in the Ukrainian military, do not send me classified information.
00:10:35 Destruction was raining down on Ukrainian territory, shells, mines, missiles.
00:13:39 Whatever is happening in Ukraine it's not going according to Russia’s plan.
00:21:49 Just having access to free information does not protect us from propaganda.
00:24:38 Syrskyi, head of Ukraine’s army is known to be a mathematician of war.
00:35:19 Stockpiles of weapons that the Soviet Union amassed over 50 years.

Thank you for calling our United States' Ukraine stance disgusting and offensive. It's true and it is maddening to know we could prevent much of the Ukrainian civilian casualties but refuse to provide that assistance for fear of political reprisal.

It’s, unfortunately, very simple… it’s an election year, in the U.S., and, if the current administration dares to cross that arguably mythical Nuclear threat barrier, the opposition very realistically will use that move to successfully defeat it, but that also will only ensure that Trump’s administration will definitely pave the way for Putin have his way with all of Europe through Nuclear blackmail.

As an American, there is absolutely zero need to apologize for calling out my government's horrendously tepid and inexcusable response for Ukraine! Our leaders and government needs to be incessantly called out! I'm embarrassed and horrified at our slow and inadequate response, and our refusal to allow Ukraine to defend itself in the very ways we would be defending ourselves in the same situation! Slava Ukraini!

Thank you for this conversation, guys. I never miss a video from this channel. I have been actively witnessing this terrible war from day one and it is definitely taking a toll on me which seems minuscule in comparison with the horror that Ukrainian people are experiencing. As an USA citizen, I cannot be more frustrated with the Biden administration. Hopefully Harris administration will be more decisive if we see the Harris win the 2024 elections. Being born in Kazakhstan, I know that if Russia is not stopped for good, it will never cease to harass its neighbors.

The way the US and the West slowly drip feeds support to Ukraine is turning so many countries away from the west. It's disgraceful how poorly we in the west are dragging our feet, allowing Ukraine to take a spanking . Sickens me and also makes me feel ashamed.

I agree. I suspect that much of the issue is due to the west's old problem - We are great at winning wars, but rubbish when it coes to sorting the mess out afterwards. So the solution to not knowing how to manage the aftermath is the west trying to keep the status quo.

People often seem to forget that Russia need to spend a huge amount of recourses and manpower in their weapons industry and also on training new conscripts, pilots and tank crew, while Ukraine are not, because they receive most of their training and equipment from abroad. So Russia do not have an endless pool of manpower to send to Ukraine. They need civilian farmers and factory workers and to keep the infrastructure running, and manpower for the military industry and for training troops.

@agffans5725
@agffans5725 11 күн бұрын
@@daddad8707 .. Yes, and the general shortage of workers will make prices on everything keep growing. According to the Russian business daily Kommersant on 13. August, then the suppliers of bread, dairy, chocolate and beer in Russia have now informed retailers of impending price increases of up to 40%. The price hikes are being attributed to a combination of high inflation and expensive loans, as well as the rising costs of shipping, personnel, packaging and raw materials and as being “atypical” not driven by seasonal factors. So Putin and the Russian economy is doomed no matter what he is going to do, it's just a question of how soon it will be.

The ammo shortages in Europe (definitely in 🇳🇱) are dating back till the '70. I was a Cheetah (=dutch Gephard) commander, in 1 1/2 year I fired 15 dummy rounds (35 mm bullets), no HE rounds, no fragmentation rounds. I fired 1 dummy TOW and 30 bullets from the UZI (not on auto because the barrels were crappy). Yet we were near the East-German week after week when the russians threatened Poland during the hight of the Solidarność unrests.

Jonathon, I always enjoy your channel. And, as an American, I very much agree with your views that Biden’s red lines are obscene, disgusting, and despicable. And it also causes me to wonder if Harris wins our election will the red lines continue. Jake Sullivan will have a very derogatory history of his time in office for his policies regarding red lines. And so will Biden. History will not be kind to either of them.

America's goals are not the same as Ukraine's. Much is in common but not all. The U.S. does not want to see this conflict escalate to other areas of Europe or elsewhere. it does not want to see the application of nuclear weapons, not even tactical nuclear weapons. Take it that each of these two countries should act solely in their own best interest. Here's the question. Should the U.S., and by extension the West, support Ukraine in a way that raises as little as a 1% chance of escalation or the use of nuclear weapons? Why? How is that in the West's best interest?

Letting pukin take over Ukraine will be a geopolitical disaster. I think if Trump withdraws US support, it will result in Europe sending in troops to Ukraine. Europe does not want imperialist putinia on its border.

I think if people take the mileage off the Ukranian border and put that distance across their own country, starting on one side, people might understand how large this is. I don't understand why the incessant "election season" in the US pushes everyone around the world into the back seat until the election is done. One election is over, immediately the people start campaigning. That would drive anyone else in a democratic country nuts.

Jonathan, you had a gentleman on Silicon Curtain recently that said "no matter what happens, Putin will spin the results to his favor" , no matter what the civilian population thinks or knows at the time of Putin's defeat. The term "absolution" wasn't used. I think that is what you and Georgijs are discussing at the end of you blog. Slava Ukraine. Georgijs, good to see you here.
