I am learning fixed wing FPV (no flight controller). Will this unit work just using power, ground, and video connections with my analog goggles giving me a medium range FPV glider? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Hey there Graybear, sounds like an awesome use case! Yes, this VTX is actually made for that use, it has a function button which allows you to select output power, channel, etc. in case the VTX is not wired to a flight controller. The manual has the instructions for how to do that, I mention it at 04:03 but I didn't get into much detail...

Thanks for watching Tony. I will definitely add some flight footage with this build, just finishing it up this week!

As someone who started FPV 1.5 years ago with a DJI potato and quickly got into building with the O3 air unit, I am oddly fascinated with analog FPV. It started when I built racers with analog VTXs and, of course the video is terrible compared to the digital systems, but it's not that terrible. Like I can still see where I'm going. Don't get me wrong, the VAST majority of my fleet sport O3AUs with a few vistas sprinkled in for low light capabilities, but for some reason, I keep buying analog components and tinkering with them to try to get the best video possible. Maybe it's the latency that I enjoy so much, idk. I can't really explain it, but I just got a Maten and I can't wait to pair it with the ratel pro and the Phoenix 2 and see how it does. And of course compare it to the 1.6w offerings from iflight and TBS. 😀

That's great to hear that you can put analog gear to good use, I guess it is the "golden age" of analog because now we are getting super high powered analog systems and good quality cameras at a price that is very accessible. Enjoy that Maten VTX, I found that mine was able to maintain that high output power during long flights with my Mark4 7" using li-ion packs...

I've been flying since 2016 and still fly analog. What's pretty crazy is that for flying almost 9 years and probably 10,000 plus packs along with having gone to MultiGP international open 2 years in a row... I've never seen HD video with my own eyes. I've never actually been around someone who has been flying any HD system. I've used my current setup on both my rigs for the past 5 years...the actual same TBS Unify Pros with Runcam Swift 2 Johnny Edition with both using the Rotor Riot 2.1mm lenses. I could get a more vibrant saturated image if I went with a CMOS sensor but, I love the WDR of the Swift's. What is also great about analog video is that there use to be 1.3ghz 2.4ghz 4.9ghz and obviously 5.8ghz modules that would just snap into my FatSharks and be able to comfortably fly solid mid and long range. I know Furious FPV had a 2.4ghz goggle module and maybe TBS as well. So back in the day one would use crossfire at 900mhz and 2.4ghz video to really get out there, you could also use 1.3ghz with crossfire as well but needed a filter for the video since 900mhz and 1.3ghz are so close. I love this hobby and am so comfortable with my setup that I'll see something cool to fly while driving and just jump out and do a quick SNR/Band Scan and if decent enough...Fly skyscraper's here in Dallas 😊.

Hi Can you share more information regarding to the VRX and antenna in the ground station? Currently I am using 5.8G VTX AKk race ranger 1.6W and ORT Pagoda as the antenna in my plane For the ground station, I use diversity module DIY with ORT Patch Feeder I want to increase my Video Range Thank you

Hey there, your setup sounds pretty good to me, I'm sorry that I don't use a ground station and can't really offer you any useful advice. Best of luck with it!

I’m about to build my 1st drone, sub 250g siren f3 with 03. I haven’t even got the parts yet and I already want to plan another build, kind of want to do a 5” analog build.

Sounds like a cool build! I was just looking at the FlyfishRC Tony5 and was thinking the same thing. When it comes to analog, a month ago I wasn't even thinking about it, but with the VTX's that GEPRC has been bringing out, along with those cheap Mark4 LR7, LR8, etc., they've got me flying analog again!

I hope you can make next video comparation Vs unbeatable DJI system 03 air unit. Included range and penetration...🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@colibrifpv8 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I will try to do that in an upcoming video...
@MrBornenjap8 ай бұрын
@@colibrifpv yes that is what I'm waiting for, already subscribed and hit bell button for your upcoming review on this one. If long range is forbidden, penetration tests through building is the same as long range I believe. Great job 🔥🔥🔥

My brand new analog goggles arrived just before christmas. I want to make a sub 250gram build with a huge analog VTX on it for LR tiny whooping!
@colibrifpv9 ай бұрын
I don't know about a tiny whoop, but this VTX on a sub 250g build like a TernLR40 or a Flywoo explorer would be fantastic, you could reach some amazing distances with the right antennas!

Power tests show that it has max 1.5w or even less, not 2.5w as described
@colibrifpv9 ай бұрын
Where did you see that? The testing I've seen is that it does output full power, though at lower values power levels are somewhat inaccurate...
@ksenychvictoriia82206 ай бұрын
I am very disappointed with this VTX. It real max output power is 1.2-1.5w. There are many tests already done. I've also check it by myself using TinySA and receive 1.2w :((( So think twice before buy it...
