Never thought that.. being able to remember every detail of anything that had happened was a blessing that I should cherish. The past 2 years are just a noise to me. Depression, anxiety, opiates and self-sacrifice. Desire to self-destruct is real and dangerous, it starts when you feel you dont deserve something that others get for granted, then couple years later it is a whole different beast. Now you feel wrong when you dont suffer.

Depression is a mental disorder, it's extremely common but not something that happens to everybody (it's also not the same as having ups and downs and feeling sad). Also, his comment about medication is extremely ignorant. Medication doesn't take your personality away, it obviously doesn't solve your problems but it *can* be really helpful for people who might have depression because of a chemical disbalance. I used to have a romantic vision of depresion and melancholy when I was a teenager, but now I know that's bullshit, there is nothing romantic about feeling hopeless

You are not right at all. I’ve taken antidepressants for almost a year now and I can say Gerard tells some true stuff about them. I mean yeah, for some people it helps but you can’t generalize the subject. It’s not the same for all people. For other people(like me) it’s really a mental torture. Less than a month after I started to take my first set of antidepressants,(I’ve taken 3 different antidepressants by now) I started to feel like I couldn’t cry at all and also all my personality would fade away. Becuase I couldn’t cry, I looked for other way to get the burden off my chest so I started to be more aggressive towards my close ones. It’s no joke about the antidepressants. They can really change you in a bad way

the first antidepressant i took did take my personality away before my doctor found one that works for me - i can’t imagine how meds were 20 years ago. gerard and mikey have talked about being on meds on later interviews and on social media, so i don’t think this interview is true to how he feels nowadays :)

@@lulilee4152 this was 10 years ago and antidepressant have not changed that much ever since. If someone feels that medication is taking their personality away they should talk with their doctors and change it, since it shouldn't cause that. Sometimes you have to try different meds to find the one that works. That's why I think it's dangerous to say that medication is bad or it chages who you are. Again, I used to think that feeling sad was part of my personality when in reality my brain wasn't functioning the way it should be. If anything, antidepressants have helped me being my true self along with therapy. Overmedication is another thing - and I think this might be what Gerard was trying to say.

@@user-ht1ft3dy3s i agree with you! the meds i’m on now also help make me myself again, and even my olds meds that took my personality away and that i hate with a burning passion did their job of getting me out of bed and back to being a functional human again. what i meant is that gerard might’ve had a bad experience that led them to the misconception he shows in this video (which i think is from a 2007 interview, 15 years ago). overmedication might be what he meant, as well. either way, it’s not a very good message to send out lol but i do think he’s changed his mind on it because i remember seeing him tweet about his meds and all that back when he still used twitter

Yeah it was mind-blowing the moment I realized that not everyone deals with depression and how it turns off joy, turns it into anxiety and stress instead. Makes you feel vulnerable and fragile and makes you think that there is no future for you. It makes more sense why addictions happen.

Alcohol and drugs, unfortunately which I guess in turn, he was hurting himself too :(
