So Aki launches tomorrow so I think we will be switching gears back to SF6 mode for a minute. Lots of people asking for a Shao guide, which fair enough considering this is the Rooflemonger channel, I think Shao will get an old school big tips guide thats prob like an hour long cause I have so much to say about that character. That said that kinda guide takes way more time to make, so if its gonna happen probably not til the weekend where I have more time. Plus more stuff in the works too!

I really like his walk animation in 1. In 11, he always looked a little too casual when he was walking. But now, with his slightly lowered head and just how he walks to you, he really lets you know that he is a threat and he doesn't care about you - he will walk through you.

Geras's combos look very technical to learn. It's good that have this guide to help us understand the basics of the character, because we all know there's a lot more to learn about him that'll make him more dangerous to face than he already is.

With ForeverKing using Cyrax and Tweedy going Sareena, I'm glad you chose to highlight other possible kameo routes. I personally LOVE Frost on Geras. Any successful low freeze gives enough time to ex charge his hourglass to full, and having Inevitable loaded up makes zoners HAVE to respect you at range. Conditioning them to expect lows also means you land his overhead splash pretty often when they approach... plus, there's just something psychologically satisfying about landing freezes AND time stops on an opponent.

One Kameo I love pairing up with Geras is Stryker. Strykers overhead is +6 on block and leaves you close to the opponent and can mix up with his forward 4. The ambush grenades are perfect for overall screen control (which geras lacks) and locking the enemy down during their wake up. The negative is unfortunately you’ll have 900 health but its a good trade in my opinon

The tick throws section absolutely blew my mind. The only other tick throw I know of is Shao's with a d1 only. Geras having tick throws in a combo string is crazy and that combined with the range on his throw might make him a better direct grappler than Reiko. (Though admittedly he doesn't have a mid option). I guess it really depends on if there's any way to ambush kameo combo with his throw-- definitely seems like it's be significantly more difficult than it is with Reiko if even possible.

Great video as always! I’ve been maining geras he is so fun. One thing to note that’s similar to the motaro teleport gimmick, if time stop trades with the enemy at any point, they also get frozen in time like the Ex version. Pretty sick

I just picked him up. Been running Geras with Jax and Scorpion primarily. Both are really good Kameos to pair with him as they allow for easy combo extension, especially if you have trouble connecting the f21,df4 string into f21, just call the kameo after the tornado or even do f212 then kameo for easy extension into f21 ex time stop etc… What they also provide is cover and mixup potential. Jax with his unblockable and force wave that leaves you safe on block. And Scorpion with his spear pulling you to safety, and even his overhead. After conditioning them to block low because of f44 and your low pokes with d3 or d4 or b4, now you have Scorpion Kameo overhead to add to the mix and as a combo starter. Note the overhead leaves them in a juggle state so not only are they not grounded but gravity kicks in faster. Geras is fun. A little stubby on those faster normals, but the big boy moves really can open someone up for big damage. Perfect representation of a big body grappler.

Ngl at first I was a little scared my boy Geras wasn’t going to be in Mk 1, so I decided that maybe I’ll try to main Havik, Reptile, Reiko, Baraka( was my main in Mk 11 along with Raiden and Geras). Then I seen he was out and I was excited to see my him and couldn’t wait to see how he played in Mk 1 and I’m not disappointed at all he everything I liked from Mk 11 and then some. Just like how he broke the rules of Mk 11, I love how he breaks the rules of Mk 1. At first it felt a bit odd to use him but I never played the betas so the feel of the game was weird to me but after a day or two of playing the game I was able to use him just fine and honestly he feels the same as he did in Mk 11 but more accustomed to how Mk 1 is. His dmg is still there, his pressure, his set up, it’s all there I couldn’t be happier. I really love using Motaro and Frost with him but I found using Sub Zero a lot of fun to use as a kameo with him, even Kung Lao makes a decent and fun kameo too but I do prefer frost or frost. You’re damn right he’s going to be my main( at least one of my top mains) just like he was in Mk 11. I’m definitely a happy camper eating like a king having my boy Geras in this game. Then we got Havik, Reptile, Reiko, Shao, a kick ass version of Shang, Nitara, and Mileena, it couldn’t be a better time to be alive and to be a Mk fan. Also the fact we’re getting Ermac, Quan-Chi, and Takeda is the cherry on top

I’m really enjoying using Johnny Cage/Cyrax in this game as since Johnny is a pressure oriented rush down character and Cyrax essentially allows him to more efficiently loop his pressure, I hope you do a starter guide on the character soon, I have been using Johnny Cage’s guide over on DashFight to begin learning the character but, who knows, maybe I’ll learn something new from your starter guide that I didn’t learn from that one if you do one soon.

Great guide. My only real issue with Geras is how stiff he feels compared to the rest of the cast. Having to wait for him to recover from moves gets pretty annoying…especially with online lag.

FYI you can use kung lao teleport to get the free ex timestop. You have to Tele before the sideswitch i.e. really early. Same with motaro, you can do it before geras switches sides.

Hey Roofle, great content as always, I just started with Geras, and this comes in. Sweet! Also, there's a recent trend I am seeing for MK1 content creators to expose MK1 flaws, this was greatly due to the P1 side advantage thing sparking rage on the competitive scene. But as someone that also grinded SF6 content, it's as clear to you that we had a much more polished game released by Capcom? (On regards of features, bugs, balance and performance).

Love the videos. I’m maining geras. Just a heads up. Maybe this was filmed pre day one patch? 21 tick grab does not work anymore. Maybe a few characters still? didn’t check all. But I tired li Mei like in the video and nope.. no good. F12 still good tho. Also it’s worth to end most combos in 12 1+2 for the free hour glass. Still gets silly damage. Some routes it’s his optimal.

It helped because it's an awesome guide as always, it didn't help because now I want to go back to labbing Geras and pushing me closer to character choice paralysis! hahaha. I started as Shao, really enjoy his combos but felt somewhat one note and like he was at a disadvantage online. Reiko was next because I love the design and way he plays, but I struggle finding space to drop the grab (And Darrius timing, oof.) Raiden was next because I found the stupid long combo with Jax hilarious and huge damage. Aaaaand then.. Okay fine Geras it is!
