Had this knife on a deployment in the jungle. Fit well on a plate carrier vertical carry and on a belt vertical or horizontal. Did everything I expected in a bush knife, but i was actually surprised how well it did at chopping for a small knife. Confident grip for stabbing with wet hands, effective as a weapon. However I fell off the side of a mountain and it tore apart the sheath (overcomable damage with boot lace) and broke the handle (cracked along the insertion point of the blade). I still used it to built shelters and stab my way up sheer elevation under load. So the knife is good as long as you dont fall off the side of a double canopy mountain with it.

Hey... First make sure you purchased the LMF II Survival or ASEK. If you got the Infantry, it does not come with a strap cutter. I mention that in the beginning of the video from 1:45 to 2:15. If you did get the Survival or ASEK and did not get a strap cutter... Go to Gerber's website look up "Gerber Gear" to find it with Google. Just contact them. I'm sure they'll make it right. Hope this helps. ~ David

Very well done presentation David! I love my LMF II...I have the Survival version in Coyote. It was given to me by my Son-in-Law that is in the U.S. Army. He also bought another one for himself. I absolutely love this knife, the serrations are very useful and the weight never bothers me. I'm a retired Army vet myself. I just wish they had come up with the LMF II when I was in. I've had mine for a little over 2 years now...and it is still my favorite survival/ tactical knife.

Good question... Okay, so look at the SOG Seal Team Elite... the Gerber Prodigy Tanto, Gerber LHR and the Schrade Extreme Survival SCHF3. Gerber LHR and SOG Seal Team Elite lean more toward the tactical side. I have reviews posted for both. You may also want check out the SOG Seal Pup. Oh... I have the Gerber Myth Fixed Blade Pro here also... which I have not reviewed yet, but it's a VERY nice blade. Hope this helps. ~David

I've had my LMF since they came out. Its pretty much badass. I've even used it extensively for construction on my place, its a very durable blade. When I bought mine there weren't 3 variations and mine didn't come with the leg straps. I called Gerber to inquire about buying some and they sent me both straps, free of charge. Great company and an excellent knife.

This is one of the best reviews on this knife I have seen. Instead of bashing the handle with a log, you are using it for actual survival and cutting tasks. I just got my LMF II and will treat mine like a cutting tool that I don’t have to baby, but also not abuse. Guys have used these on deployment in some of the harshest conditions on the planet without issue. They don’t try to destroy them for you tube clicks like some do. But they use them plenty hard. Thank you for an honest review of a great product.

Wow... tough question. Did you watch my review of the SOG Seal Team Elite? If you are in no rush, I am really liking the Schrade Extreme Survival line also... Reviews on the way soon! Kind regards. ~ David

More and more I am not fond of the pocket sharpeners of fixed V sharpeners as the fixed angle of the sharpening stones are not likely to match the factory blade angle. The Pocket Pal comes with a cone shaped sharpening rod... great for the serrations. The LMF II has a built in V sharpener for touching up the fine edge in the field. Hope this helps! ~ David

I grabbed my lmf2 mainly because of the fact the handle is insulated. I survey natural gas lines all through the country and run into alot of rouge hot fences. I could easily use it to move hot wire away/cut through it. Plus this thing is beefy. I haven't had to use it on any threats/wildlife yet but I believe it would do great in that regard. I have had it for around 4 years now and hasn't failed me yet

Very good question. I will do a video on this soon. In short a survival knife will normally be made out of tougher steel, the steel with be thicker, and the blade will usually be a drop point blade which has the strongest point... so that it can be used for more tasks without risk of breaking. See my Schrade Extreme Survival Review... This is almost the perfect survival knife. See my SOG Seal Team Elite Review, this is almost the perfect tactical knife...Hope this helps. ~David

Great to have your comments bro! Nice to have someone who has had to depend on and utilize this knife opposed to spec scanners and full tang junkies... haa, haa... Gerber has changed a few things since releasing the ASEK to the general public and I didn't feel comfortable promoting that one... Hope this helps... Good comment! Understood... Everyone has their criteria for what "the best" means. Full tang is awesome. Better edge retention can mean a more brittle steel too and harder to sharpen in the field... so all these things need to be considered. Some also DON'T like serrations in a survival knife... But the ASEK was designed as a military survival knife... so the design criteria are different than a bushcrafters idea of the best survival knife. Take care. ~David

Funny... gotcha. We are a young group of dudes that have been around for a while... and our core focus is mostly gear / knives within the price range of the average dude. There are plenty of better knives, made of better steel... And Gerber is the manufacturer of many... I have not reviewed my Silver Trident or Gerber Combat yet... but when the price gets around a $100 people get that "deer in the headlights" look & start to convulse. What are your suggestions for knives for us to review? ~David

I bought the Gerber LMF 2 Infantry and im very happy with it. I got a "Light my Fire Firesteel" a "LED Micro Light", and a "Jet Screamer" whistle. Then I took a small compass and connected it below on the sheath and added some 550 paracord. With the sharperner included, it all ended up making a reliable survival system.TBH though,the Gerber Prodigy is the better knife due to the fact its full tang, and does not have the spear holes thus no weakness in the handle.Its also lighter and thats an important thing cause if you had to fight with this blade, or carry it over rough terrain packing a ton of gear, every little bit of weight counts. - Or running from an angry bear - 0.o. Give it a look.

I went to sport chalet to see this knife and get a feel for it, and the person working there said "Ya, the blade goes all the way from the tip to the but end." and I was like "Nah, it's made to protect your hand if your chopping live wires. He abused it in every way...and it was still in perfect working order when I got ahold of it. I have used it now for nearly 3 years for camping, bushcrafting, survival training. I have batoned with it as well as pried with it...it is still as solid as the day I received it. I have several videos with the LMF II if you are interested in watching them.

Hello, I have had this knife for nearly 3 years. And it also did a year tour in Afghanistan before that with my Son-in-Law. This is one tough, well made knife! I love mine, your customers will too. The LMF II is an above average build quality for a Gerber knife. The Gerber Prodigy is also a great survival knife for you to offer at your store, I own one that also spent a year in Afghanistan. It too is well made and tough as nails!

I don't understand why people do not like the partially serrated edge? How does this effect the purpose of the knife? Personally, I love the serrated edge for cutting and the non serrated for stabbing. Well thought out, respectful comments welcomed.
@GreatBigRanz7 жыл бұрын
Serrations are difficult to sharpen and are prone to braking while batoning. The best idea is to have a full length straight edge fix blade with a serrated pocket folder
@alphagrizzly7 жыл бұрын
Johnny Hancock personally don't like serrations because I get clean cuts with the straight edge then the serrations either jam up and slow down cutting or worse they give jagged and uneven cuts. Also get hung up on the pull back cut if you try try cut cloth or other soft items

I bought the Gerber LMF II ASEK and the KA-BAR BK2 Campanion at the same time. When I received them in the mail and I opened both boxes, I was awed when I saw and held in my hands the BK2, then I took out of the box the Gerber and immediately I disliked it, it did not feel right in my hands and it did not get me excited as the BK2, but fore some reason I decided to give the Gerber time for me to like it, so I took it out a lot, it made this rattle noise inside the handle, where the blade meets the guard, I used it several times for making spears, I hated the fact it was serrated and I had to use the front of the blade for that, not my cup of tea. Well anyways to make a long story short, I gave it away to a friend after four months. I kept my BK2 and I love it, it's heavier than the Gerber but it does everything a survival knife should do. The only drawback about it is the slippery handle but I will wrap some inner tube rubber on it. The Gerber is okay, but it's not keeper for me.

Soooo... I was issued one of these in Iraq and the blade broke while batonning a pretty small piece of wood in Afghanistan. Gerber gave me quite a bit of trouble regarding "normal use." I received my replacement and thought I'd give it another shot. This one broke as well, in the handle this time. I was chopping a small tree for a tarp pole. By looking through the lanyard holes you can see that the tang is very small in comparison to the blade. This knife has major design flaws and I would not recommend ANYONE depending on this knife for disaster or survival knife.

Good question. Okay... every 5 years Gerber re-evaluates their brand and logo. Their previous logo was more self oriented and carried the slogan or tag line - "Fend for Yourself". Gerber has reevaluated and has, and is changing their logo and focus to one that is more like "Protect and Preserve" less self oriented... More "other" minded. So, all that to say, quality has not changed, just a shift in brand and message that is being phased in. I think you can continue to buy with confidence. ~David
