Alas I only read in English. Sprache &sein sounds good worth looking for in English.

I can’t attest to the translation Speaking & Being - but I would expect a lot of thought going into the process of translating a book on language 😊

Read "Daheim", the language is beautiful, which should appeal to your dislike of longwinded sentences 😉

If you please In the past only travel aboard or looking for books to learn new information. Nowadays KZbin channels as open universities for every one google is our library. I chose one of books you mentioned main theme and author biography briefly here it’s leere herzen ( empty hearts ) the author in her previous fiction , big themes and weaves them into narrative with plenty of psychological drama , black humor. Empty hearts of title refers to terrorists organization and pop song about suicide, but also to generation disillusioned by apparent defeat of old ideas. Author appealing narrative style , full of metaphor and imaginative language. Suspenseful plot with exploration of morality and politics. Question of whatever political violence is ever justified. Juli zeh ( born in 1974) she is German writer , former judge . She is known for novels such as method , unterleuten . She won notable award soloth urner literaturpeis. Iam so sorry to be little long but reading and writing both are great ways to improve our English as none native speakers.

I hope you enjoy Leere Herzen! Although that always feels like a strange thing to wish someone, if the book covers such heavy topics!

*Hihi glad to know, that you feel more like reading German these days =P Juli Zeh is actually really hit or miss for me, I enjoyed Unter Leuten and Über Menschn (kind of...) and I remember dnfing a book a while back when I was on holiday, but Leere Herzen really doesn't appeal to me... Oh and I heard somewhere around booktube, that Regenroman is supposed to be kind of icky sometimes (if I do not mistake it...) Sprache & Sein is really good as well!

I think going to Leipzig played a big part in me wanting to actually see what the German authors are talking about 😊 I am worried about Regenroman now 😂 I have giften Sprache & Sein to a friend in the past. I thought it was really strong while still being "easy" to read as far as non-fiction goes. Funnily enough, Unter Leuten doesn't really interest me that much... Maybe we will have totally opposing ideas of Juli Zeh once I have read Leere Herzen!

I read Such a Petty Smile (spoilers) I gave it a 3.25☆, the first 75% was great but the ending fell flat for me. It wasn't very focused, it tried to cover a lot of topics and didn't fully explore any of them. It tried to be a Little Red Ridinghood thing, but it was confused anout who the Big Bad Wolf was. At points it seemed like it was about popular and unpopular girls tearing eachother apart (figurativly and literally), and how patriarchy keeps girls down (but wasn't focused on systemic or individual predation). The supernatural elements didn't make much sence to me, it turned men into literal beasts but also compelled girls to thier own doom. It should have been more about how girls are allowed to silently slip through societys craks, or how preditory men arent held accountable untill it cant be ignored. Also the toxic relationships and mental health stuff (but this is allready too long... sorry XD)

„It was confused about who the big bad Wolf was“- that is such a fitting statement! For a while I liked that it wasn’t totally obvious, who we should root for, but I agree that the ending was messy. Do you by any chance have any horror recommendations that tackle similar themes a little more skilled?
